History:
(Spidey Super Stories#23/3) - Using special glowing
clay of unrevealed composition in his workshop, Puppet Master crafted a
small likeness of the normally heroic Thing.
(Spidey Super Stories#23/5) - Desiring riches and
fame, Puppet Master intended to use the clay puppet to make the Thing
his "super-slave." Soon, the Thing heard Puppet Master's voice inside
his head and felt compelled to obey his commands. Puppet Master ordered
him to barge through the streets; seeing the destruction, Spider-Man
intervened but was punched away, soon joined by police who could not
stop the Thing's rampage. Puppet Master ordered the Thing to smash into
Tiffany's department store and loot it, then took the stolen goods and
cash to Puppet Master's lair. Spider-Man followed and, suspecting the
clay puppet was causing the Thing to behave badly, swiped it away with
his webbing. Spidey threatened Puppet Master, but he cowered away. The
control over him eliminated, the Thing returned to full consciousness,
apparently not remembering his actions while under Puppet Master's
control. Spidey explained as he webbed the villain up; the Thing then
promised to deal with him.
Comments: Created by Jim Salicrup (writer), Win Mortimer (pencils), Mike Esposito (inks).
His workshop included marionettes (not clay puppets) of the Invisible Girl, Captain America and Easy Reader, amongst others. All were apparently controllable.
Physical stats are taken from the Earth-616 version,
as they look very much alike.
