History:

(Creatures on the Loose I#19/1) - Lost in the polar region of Mars, Wing-Man Chak and his friend, the time-lost Earthman Gullivar Jones, sought shelter in an ice cave, not realizing it was the lair of the invisible Ra-Kar, which quietly saw them. Having healed quickly from wounds, Jones passed his revitalizing mystical amulet to Chak. The amulet let Chak see Ra-Kar and he slashed at the red creature with a sword, but missed and was knocked down. Jones reclaimed the amulet and sword, then attacked Ra-Kar, but with novice sword skills, relied on brute force instead to stagger the creature. However, the amulet impeded Jones' attack with visions of his lover in trouble. Ra-Kar took the advantage and punched him down.

(Creatures on the Loose I#20/1) - Chak helped Jones recover. Despite exhaustion, Jones coordinated a kicking attack with Chak against Ra-Kar, and the red Martian was knocked over an edge and fell far down a cliff face. Chak expected the creature to be dead.

Comments: Created by George Alec Effinger (writer), Wayne Boring & Gil Kane (pencils), Jim Mooney (inks).

It should be noted that Ra-Kar spoke only on the cover of Creatures on the Loose I#19 and this is the only spot he's named.

Ra-Kar looks a lot like a Martian Lizardman and Jones guessed he was an outcast, so maybe he's another mutation that's manifested naturally or by the genetic meddling of the Technics Guild. Interestingly, Ra-Kar only fought when he was attacked, so his true motives with Chak and Jones can only be guessed at.
