History:
(My Love#3/2 (fb)) - Steffi Reynolds was happy being popular due to her good looks and went on dates with various men, but never felt romantically drawn to one. However, at a party attended by artists, musicians and writers, Steffi met Arthur Brandon, who played a nearby piano as a way of introducing himself. They were very quickly drawn to each other and Steffi went to Arthur's loft the next day where he practiced. Realizing they were both in love with each other, he proposed to her and she accepted. To support them, he gave up on his classical studies and joined a rock group. Steffi saw he was wasting his talent when Arthur's mother quietly approached Steffi at a gig and asked her to sacrifice the engagement so that Arthur could pursue his classical piano talent. Steffi did so, pretending to dismiss him away, leaving Arthur heartbroken, but she cried silently as she walked away.
(My Love#4/1 (fb) - BTS) - Admiring Steffi's devotion, Arthur's mother revealed the true reason to her son why Steffi left him.
(My Love#4/1 (fb)) - Herself heartbroken, Steffi futilely tried to forget Arthur by dating other guys or chasing up relationship-driven friends, so she retreated depressed and lonely. Time passed and she found a new record by Arthur. She discovered he had become popular with many fans. Steffi attended a concert and collected press clippings, aware she was still in love with the pianist, yet felt she could never return to him. Months passed and she heard his next concert would be special with the release of a new original rock concerto dedicated to his true love with the name to be revealed.
(My Love#4/1) - Steffi sat in the audience amongst
the excited fans when Arthur finally walked out on stage and revealed
the composition's title, "Steffi", dedicated to his love. She cried as
he played the piano on stage. When the final applause faded, she called
his name from the audience and the two reunited on stage in a
passionate kiss while Arthur's mother looked on approvingly.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee (writer), John Buscema (pencils) and John Romita (inks).
This was the only multi-parter comic story in the "My Love" romance comic (39 issues (including reprints)).
It would be great for a throwaway line in a contemporary comic where Brandon's "Steffi" track has been relegated to on-hold/elevator music.
These romance stories often had the flavor of the
time in which they were written, and nothing else to tie them into
Marvel's sliding timescale. As such, it's likely that the stories took
place at the time of publication rather than being part of the sliding
timescale.
