History: (Osborn#1/2 (fb) ) - Intangible carnival worker Carl "Carny" Rives had an obsessive romantic interest in the sister of two US senators, resulting in three deaths and his imprisonment in the underwater Special Containment Center, which nullified his phasing powers. There, he befriended his cellblock mates; the shapeshifting god Ai Apaec, deranged geneticist June Covington, the demonic Kingmaker, and the alien Xirdal.
(Osborn#1 (fb) / Osborn#4 (fb) ) - Rives was taken away from the prison to work for Senator Bill Morrison, who wanted to implicate his rival, Senator Sondra Muffoletto, in Norman Osborn's detention in the off-the-books SCC. His block-mates were told he had died.
(Osborn#2) - Disguised in a coat and hat, Rives met Daily Bugle reporter Norah Winters at Pier 84, where a submarine waited to bring them to the Special Containment Center.
(Osborn#3) - Rives and Winters arrived at the prison, finding it in the midst of a full-fledged riot. As they watched Osborn rally the prisoners from an observation deck, Winters insisted that she couldn't stay, but as she frantically tried to get the phone to work, she was grabbed by Ai Apaec; meanwhile, Rives disappeared.
(Osborn#4) - Rives reappeared to his former block-mates, minus Xirdal and plus Osborn and Winters, at the dock for the submarine escape pod. He revealed his identity to them, and phased into the sub to unlock it from the inside. He joined them in escaping from the prison, but the sub was damaged when the prison exploded.
(Osborn#5) - The sub and its inhabitants were saved when Ai Apaec formed an air-bubble around it. The criminals within dispersed; Rives found a new carnival to work at.

The cover of Osborn#2 shows Osborn in a cell next to "The Ghost", who appears to be a dark-haired ghost girl similar to Samara, from The Ring - maybe an early version of Rives?
