History:
(Human Fly I#11 (fb) - BTS) - Willie Silver and his
band, Silver Charity, got their start in music from unscrupulous road
manager "Candy" Mike Flynn and their first hit single, "Death of a
Superstar," winning them many fans. However, Flynn was embezzling the
band's profits and tried to kill the band members, engineering would-be
"accidents." Flynn organized a benefit event at the St. Louis Arch
featuring the band and stuntman the Human Fly.
(Human Fly I#11) - Silver was spooked by the dangers
that occurred when he sang the band's hit single (actually caused by Flynn). Flynn bullied Silver
into performing and the singer received support from his band mates
before going on stage. They paused their act to let the Human Fly
excite the crowd by riding over the St. Louis Arch before continuing to
play. However, Flynn had rigged Silver's guitar to electrocute him. The
Human Fly quickly leapt to Silver's rescue, but the electric burns were
too severe and he apparently died on stage after having the Human Fly promise to
not let the music die. As his friends cradled the singer's body, the
Human Fly led the band in adapting their hit song to be "Birth of a
Superstar."
