THE WORD OF GOD

Classification: Extradimensional extraterrestrial technology

Creator: The Author of the Word of God

User/Possessors: The Author of the Word of God, the Forgotten, Sir Isaac Newton

First Appearance: Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#4 (March, 2017)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: While resembling a book, the Word of God was actually a tome of ancient extraterrestrial and extradimensional technology originally used by the Author of the Word of God to traverse dimensions. Whenever the engraved symbols of the tome were spoken aloud, the speaker's soul would become more and more bound to the whims of the Author of the Word of God and the speaker was driven mad. Also, if the tome was lost, the Author could track the tome's location more and more clearly as words were spoken from it. A sub-dimension existed within the book's pages and things written or shown within the book would seemingly come to life within it (for example, letters written in tome would spring to semi-sentient life and fire drawn in the book would appear as real fire to those within the book's sub-dimension).

When the book's symbols were read aloud on Earth, the technology's abilities resembled magic that held the power over creation or complete destruction. Earth beings have used the book's words to destroy doors, an army of robots and mystic shields and other have used its words to force others to view past events and in attempts to become gods themselves.

History: (Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#8 (fb)) - When the extradimensional alien later known as the Author of the Word of God traveled to Earth, he fed on the planet and attempted to leave quickly, accidentally leaving behind his technology, which resembled an Earth book. Realizing that he was trapped on Earth without his technology, the Author became buried underground while the book's technology was later discovered by small-minded individuals who had no concept of its true power. Dubbed the Word of God, the book was eventually decoded by Earth mystics, who learned that the technology possessed the power over creation but that each word spoken from it bound them further to the Author of the Word of God, who could potentially be awakened from within the Earth if enough words were spoken from the tome.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#4 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, the Word of God found residence within Camelot.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#5 (fb)) - Sir Isaac Newton read about the Word of God book into another mystic tome but assumed it to be nothing more than a myth told to sorcerers to give the illusion of free will. Despiting believing it to be a myth, Newton began searching for the fabled book, seeking out the Dark Dimension's Jowath in Never Hills and eventually leading him into the Battle of Never Hills, where he met present-day sorcerer Dr. Stephen Strange. During the battle, Newton and Dr. Strange found a Doombot holding prisoner the being Jowath, who cast a spell from the Word of God book after being freed that destroyed Doom's forces and cost Jowath his life. Realizing his quest for the Word of God had met with failure, Newton departed, carrying with him the severed head of the Doombot, which he studied intently, hoping to recreate the spell cast from the Word of God. Unable to recreate the spell, Newton eventually got pulled away to save the world and ultimately ended up in prison.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#4 (fb) - BTS) - The mystic Forgotten, which absorbed mystic beings and artifacts, was drawn to the Word of God book, which seemingly contained powerful creation magic that it was unable to absorb. As the Forgotten corrupted and absorbed other mystics, the mystics were drawn back in time to the Age of Camelot, where the Word of God once resided. At some point, the Forgotten acquired the Word of God.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#4) - Confronting Camelot sorcerer Merlin's modern era recruits, time-displaced Sorcerers Supremes, the Forgotten used a spell from the Word of God to force the Sorcerers to witness its origins as a collective being. Recognizing the words of the spell, Sir Isaac Newton used magic from the book himself to split the Forgotten back into the individual beings then impaled one of the beings with his staff and pulled the book from the being's corpse. Announcing his plans to use the Word of God to become a god himself, Newton easily fought off the Sorcerers Supreme who sought to stop him and sealed the Sorcerers within the Forgotten's Hollow prison outside of time.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#7) - After the Sorcerers Supreme escaped their trap and traveled to the present day to confront Newton, they found him levitating in the air with the Word of God in front of him. Newton continued speaking from the Word of God as he left his Mindless One servants do the physical fighting for him until he decided to venture underground to locate a mystic cudgel he had placed there centuries earlier. Carrying the Word of God with him, Newton had his Mindless Ones blast a tunnel underground, only to be met with Dr. Strange, who had long since acquired the cudgel from Newton's burial place. Unfortunately for Newton, the Author of the Word soon appeared, having been awakened by Newton's constant speaking from the book and a defeated Newton fell back, dropping the book and wondering what sort of creature the Author was.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#8) - The weakened Sir Isaac Newton retained the Word of God tome and upon learning that the Author of the Word of God sought it, Newton ordered his servant, the Mindful One, to protect the book at all costs. During the battle, however, Newton became possessed by the Forgotten and demanded the Word of God from the Mindful One, who refused, thinking it was not safe. Newton responded by blowing the Mindful One into pieces and taking the book from inside its body. Newton then turned the Word of God over to the Author but before the Author could use it, Earth-13729's Wiccan teleported everyone with magical properties back to the Author's home dimension.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#9) - The heroic Sorcerers (plus Howard the Duck) were banished into the Word of God tome itself, where they were assaulted by semi-sentient letters and encountered real life equivalents of things within the book's pages, such as fire. Dr. Strange ultimately tore a page from the book and folded it into a paper crane, which the Sorcerers used to escape the book and confront the Author of the Word of God by disguising the crane as a dragon. When the Sorcerers teleported from the crane to behind the Author, the Author of the Word of God blasted the "dragon," revealing its paper crane nature and causing to crash into the Word of God tome, bursting into flames. With the Word of God set ablaze, the Sorcerers succeeded in destroying the Author and a restored Sir Isaac Newton used a burning scrap of the Word of God to transport all present back to Earth.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#12 (fb) - BTS) - A small shred of paper from the Word of God remained within the Mindful One's body, hidden inside a compartment within its chest.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#12) - When an early Merlin temporal counterpart (prior to his recruiting the Sorcerers Supreme against the Forgotten) appeared with an assemblage of sorcerers from various time periods and realities to assist young sorcerer Yao in fulfilling his destiny as the Ancient One, Merlin opened a compartment within the Mindful One's body that housed the last shred of paper from the Word of God tome. Using the Word of God words in addition to the magic of the assembled sorcerers, Merlin succeeded in destroying a mystic barrier preventing Yao from entering a cave that would ultimately lead to him fulfilling his destiny.
