History:
(World of Fantasy#18/5 (fb) - BTS) - XR79B was an
alien tourist who mistakenly arrived on the "restricted primitive
planet" of Earth in New York. Because he spoke by a small, portable,
handheld device, a local observer thought he spoke to the celestial
stars. This information was relayed to reporter Hank Johnson.
(World of Fantasy#18/5) - XR79B was approached by
Johnson and showed him the communicator he used to talk with those on Ursa Volans, promising to attend a convention there
later. XR79B spoke of
other worlds and civilizations, such as those from Iota
Orionis or the underground city of New Draconia near Beta Centauri,
and how astral energy from
strongly
ionized stars could be used as a source to travel across space.
Realizing that Johnson was not a fellow tourist but a native and that
he'd landed on a restricted planet, XR79B was concerned about losing
his galactic passport and rocketed into space after pressing a stud on
his belt buckle.
Comments: Created by uncredited writer (see comments) and John Forte (pencils & inks).
A bit odd that he dressed like a local - maybe he had
some sort of stealth suit on that reflected back what local people
expected to see.
comics.org list the story as possibly being credited to Stan Lee (plot) and Larry Lieber (script).
Profile by Grendel Prime.
