History: (Avengers VII#26
(fb) - BTS) - Around
1,000,000 B.C., caveman Brrkk, more intelligent than his other tribe
members, ventured out on his own and took refuge in a garden alone. A
short time later, a similarly intelligent caveman named Vnn also
ventured to the same garden and Brrkk felt as if Vnn had saved him from
going mad alone. The two soon became lovers and during a trip to the
Fall Cave, Brrkk heard danger and suggested they never go near the Fall
Cave again.
(Avengers VII#26 (fb)) - Some time later, Brrkk and his lover Vnn were exploring their garden when Brrkk noticed some bulbs wilting. After confirming that they had named the bulbs Mudd Bulbs due to their penchant for causing a sinus reaction when smelled, Brrkk asked how Vnn felt about the bulbs wilting and Vnn explained that they could chop up the bulbs and use them as a defensive weapon if another tusk dog came sniffing around their canyon. When Vnn suggested diverting water from the Fall Cave to save the wilting Mud Bulbs, Brrkk asked about their prior agreement never to go near the Cave again and Vnn admitted that only Brrkk had decided that. Brrkk then explained that the only thing he cared about more than anything else in the garden and Vnn jokingly asked if Brrkk meant the Rock Fruit. Brrkk sarcastically replied in the affirmative and Vnn expressed the wish that Brrkk would stop referring to himself as a caveman when he never belonged with the other cavemen to begin with. Brrkk agreed and thanked Vnn for saving him from that life before suggesting they go on towards the Fall Cave in order to save the Mud Bulbs.
Upon returning to the Fall Cave,
Brrkk and Vnn began
digging a trench for water irrigation but they were attacked by a group
of Deviants, who desired the cavemen's garden for themselves. Ordering
Vnn to get down, Brrkk savagely fought back against the Deviants, soon
forcing them to flee. That night, Brrkk and Vnn realized they would
have to leave their garden or be killed by the Deviants when they
returned so the two embraced and, the following morning, the two
decided to take the fight directly to the Deviants. Once at the
Deviants' base, Brrkk professed his love for Vnn and promised to defend
Vnn with every ounce of his being but the two were soon met by a large
Deviant vehicle, which caused a cave-in. Buried under tons of rubble,
Brrkk was killed while Vnn was pinned under a rock next to a dinosaur.
Seeing the deceased Brrkk, Vnn tried to free himself to get to Brrkk,
inadvertently touching the dinosaur and absorbing its Star Brand power.
Vnn, as the newest Star Brand host, then focused his anger about
Brrkk's death on the Deviants, who he slaughtered.

Brrkk referred to himself as a caveman but he was
clearly more intelligent than a typical caveman. It wasn't clear how he
obtained his higher than normal intelligence but it was acknowledged
in-story that he was smarter than his own tribe. Perhaps he was one of
the first mutants, whose only ability was high intelligence vs. the
normal of his time.
It's unclear when exactly Brrkk, Vnn and the other
proto-humans of Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C. fit into Marvel continuity.
Snood had this to say on the topic and he makes some good points
regarding past Marvel history stories:
In the real world, Neanderthals were around like 100,000 to 40,000
years ago and Cro-Magnon starting around 40,000...or something like
that. We've long had the society of Atlantis as the peak of ancient
humanity's culture and technology circa 18,000 B.C. We've definitely
had older societies on Earth and there are the various Elder Races that
dominated further back, perhaps 100,000 B.C. or more. Even the Eternals
and Deviants were created from very primitive man like 1 million years
ago. Now with the whole Avengers of 1 million B.C., we've got all these
people in the form of modern humanity existing at 1 million B.C. --Snood
