History: (All-New, All-Different Avengers I Annual#1/2) - Battling Skrull Antagonauts atop their space vessel, the heroic Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel attempted to prevent the Skrulls from activating their Rifter device to open a rift in space-time. When the Antagonauts fired on Ms. Marvel as she was doubting their ability to defeat the Antagonauts without help from other heroes like Spider-Man or Captain America, Captain Marvel intercepted the blast and as she died, she bequeathed her helm and the mantle of Captain Marvel to Ms. Marvel. Now calling herself Captain Marvel, Marvel took down the rest of the Antagonauts but noticed they had already activated the Rifter, opening a portal in space-time. Shocked when the original Captain Marvel emerged from the portal, Marvel reminded the original that the mantle of Captain Marvel had been passed to her but the original Captain Marvel nonetheless reclaimed his title, misogynistically reminding Marvel that it was called a "mantle" not a "womantle." Agreeing to the sexist Captain Marvel's ideas, Marvel changed her codename to "Miss Marvel," announcing that her previous codename was pretentious before following the original Captain Marvel home, where she considered baking the maleAvengers muffins in an effort to be more readily accepted by them.

Comments: Created by Mark Waid and Chip Zdarsky.

While her real name is never mentioned in-story, it seems extremely likely that she is Kamala Khan, given the powers and codename. Similarly, neither of the Captain Marvels in the story have their real names revealed either but the original would likely be Mar-Vell while the other who sacrifices herself would be Carol Danvers.

Earth-16101 was glimpsed on Earth-616 as a fan fiction story by that reality's Mark Waid and Chip Zdarsky.

The original Captain Marvel (Earth-16101)

Moments before he was to die from cancer, Earth-16101's original Captain Marvel witnessed a rift in space-time and through it, witnessed the sacrifice of his successor Captain Marvel and the young Ms. Marvel's defeat of the Skrull Antagonauts. Thankful that the women had kept his legacy alive into the future, the original Captain Marvel entered the rift and emerged to reclaim his mantle from Ms. Marvel, who had taken the alias of Captain Marvel following the original's successor's death. Misogynistic, the original Captain Marvel reminded Ms. Marvel that a title was called a "mantle" not a "womantle," prompting Ms. Marvel to change her codename to Miss Marvel, feeling that "Ms." was too pretentious. Miss Marvel then began hero worshipping the original Captain Marvel, following him back to Earth.

Captain Marvel did not display any superhuman powers but he likely possessed the same powers as his Earth-616 counterpart.

Captain Marvel (Earth-16101)

Earth-16101's Captain Marvel was the successor to the original Captain Marvel and teamed with young heroine Ms. Marvel to battle a battalion of Skrull Antagonauts. During the battle, Captain Marvel noticed the Antagonauts about to fire on Ms. Marvel and intercepted the shot, taking a fatal blaster wound. As she lay dying, Captain Marvel bequeathed her mantle and helm to Ms. Marvel, who became the new Captain Marvel to avenge Captain Marvel's death.

Captain Marvel possessed the same energy-absorption and projection powers that her Earth-616 counterpart had.
