History: (All-New, All-Different Avengers I Annual#1/2) - A battalion of Skrull Antagonauts, intent on opening a rift in space-time, fought the heroic Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel on the outside of their space vehicle. During the battle, Captain Marvel reminded Ms. Marvel that the Antagonauts could not be allowed to use their Rifter device to open their rift in space-time. While Ms. Marvel noted that they alone may not be enough to stop the Antagonauts, wishing that Spider-Man or Captain America were there, Captain Marvel noticed the Antagonauts about to fire on Ms. Marvel. Intercepting the blast, Captain Marvel was killed, bequeathing her helmet and mantle to Ms. Marvel who, as the new Captain Marvel, defeated the Skrull Antagonauts and destroyed their Rifter. As the last Antagonaut lay unconscious, the original Captain Marvel emerged from the rift in space-time and re-assumed the mantle of Captain Marvel, misogynistically reminding Ms. Marvel that the title was a "mantle" not a "womantle."

This reality was glimpsed in an Earth-616 fan fiction story written by that reality's Mark Waid and drawn by Chip Zdarsky, and read by Earth-616's Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan).

The Rifter was a device used by the Skrull Antagonauts to open a rift in space-time. While the Skrull Antagonauts kept Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel busy, one of the Antagonauts activated the Rifter, opening a portal through which Mar-Vell emerged following the Antagonauts' defeat.
