History:
(Heavy Weapon 911#1) -  Heavy Weapon was a giant robot fighting machine from the future that crashed into the present, with chaos ensuing.

Comments: Created by Simon Jowett.

Heavy Weapon was one of many projects planned by Marvel UK in 1993 that were delayed and then ultimately cancelled when the comics market collapsed late in that year. In Heavy Weapon's case, it was intended as for the Frontier imprint of Marvel U.K., and was intended to debut in an anthology title before moving on to its own miniseries. The series was mentioned by Frontier's group editor Michael Bennent in an interview in Comics World#17 in July 1993,  but Comic World#22 (cover dated December 1993, but presumably released circa October 1993) announced that Heavy Weapon was one of the titles being delayed by Marvel U.K.'s financial woes.

Simon Jowett informed me "At the time of Marvel UK's meltdown, Heavy Weapon was little more than a collection of loose ideas, inspired by various manga and anime: a giant robot fighting machine from the future crashes into the present. Chaos ensues. I seem to recall an intention to name the main characters after manga artists and writers."

Giving credit where credit is due: Though I'd read a little about the lost Marvel U.K projects in solicitations in the comics and comic news magazines back in 1993, I first learned more about them from the excellent blog Starlogged. This profile was put together with information from there, articles on Down The Tubes, and from interviews I did with creators for an entry on the lost projects for Eaglemoss' Marvel Fact Files. Space constraints for the Fact Files entries meant I could only use a tiny fraction of what was so kindly provided, so this and similar Appendix entries are a way of hopefully addressing that injustice, letting fans know more about some of the fun characters and concepts that were in the works. I have zero clue how the rights issues now lie, but assuming those wouldn't be a problem, I'd love to see all these characters eventually make it into proper publication; I want to read these stories!

Full disclosure - I am not at all certain that either image on this page is Heavy Weapon. Both come from Body Count, a one-shot that discussed forthcoming projects from Marvel U.K. Heavy Weapon isn't mentioned inside Body Count, but neither were Warhide, Officer Outbody or Removal Man, all three in development around the same time as Heavy Weapon, and all of them are on the Body Count cover that Alan Davis drew. The top image is on that same cover, while the other image was inside the book, on Dougie Braithwaite's page, along with a mention that he was working on an unspecified new series for 1994. The description for Heavy Weapon was "big robot with guns" which is exactly what these images both appear to show (or else someone in bulky armor), and I'm not aware of any other characters, published or planned, who they could be. So it doesn't seem a huge extrapolation that one or even both of the images might be Heavy Weapon - if I were to place odds on which one, I'd go for the top one, hence why it's the main image here. Obviously, if anyone out there knows for sure one way or the other, please do let me know!
