History: (Avengers VII#9) - After recruiting
several undersea superhumans including King Crab, King Namor informed
the grouping that war had been declared on the surface world and that
King Crab and the others assembled were to be the oceans' version of
the Avengers, which Namor dubbed the Defenders of the Deep.
(Avengers VII#10) - King Crab and the other Defenders
of the Deep were sent to Hydropolis to enforce the rules of Namor
despite Hydropolis being a research facility. Despite the scientists'
insistence that Hydropolis was peaceful, King Crab grabbed several
scientists with his pincher and hurled them away. The Avengers were
soon called in to defend Hydropolis and despite Namor's orders to the
Defenders' Piranhas to back away from the scientists, Captain America
hurled his shield into the Piranhas to force them away. Announcing that
Captain America drew first blood, King Crab prepared to fight and when
Orka called dibs on She-Hulk, King Crab admitted that he wanted to beat
She-Hulk. Orka responded by telling King Crab to shut up and kill Thor
and King Crab reluctantly agreed to attack Thor, promising to cut into
the She-Hulk battle when he was finished. Grasping Thor in his pincers,
King Crab listened as Thor remarked on how he wasn't sure whether to
bludgeon or eat King Crab, responding that he would do both to Thor.
Russia's Winter Guard soon entered the fray as well and Ursa Major
began grappling with King Crab before the Avengers and Winter Guard
started fighting amongst themselves.

King Crab's origin was never revealed though my guess
is that he is a human mutate of some sort since he seems fully capable
of speaking English fluently. I would imagine if he was a crab that
mutated to humanoid stature, he would not have picked up English so
easily.
