Powers/Abilities: Atrophus Lhos likely
passed through Terrigenesis
before becoming Chief Justice of the Genetics Council but any powers or
abilities he received remain unrevealed.
For years, Lhos ran the Council and thus, had the full might of the legislature and the military of Attilan at his command. After altering his own DNA through a combination of human and Inhuman means, Lhos prepared himself to absorb the powers of Ahura through the Morphotron machine. After doing so, Lhos became an incredibly powerful telekinetic with additional powers of invulnerability and an "evil eye," which allowed him to fire force blasts from his eye. When the power was drained out of him, Lhos seemed to wither away.

History: (Official Handbook of the Marvel
Universe A-Z Update#3
- Ahura entry (fb) – BTS) – Atrophus Lhos was appointed as the Chief
Justice of the Genetics
Council with his aids being Zhime Krepit and Minius Gerion.
(Fantastic Four Unlimited I#2 (fb) – BTS) – Upon
becoming
Chief Justice, Lhos surrendered his own name in the service of his
people while secretly harboring aspirations to rule Attilan.
(Marvel Graphic Novel I#39 (fb) – BTS) – Lhos and
the
Council were tasked with monitoring the Inhuman genetic line, which had
a
complicated history with many Inhumans part of non-human genetic lines
and
mutations. Working closely at times with King Black Bolt, Lhos
personally
oversaw all Inhuman marriages, pairing men and women with each other
for their
genetic potential, denying many Inhumans the opportunity to love and
choose
their own destinies. Many civilians started protesting the Genetics
Council
after several young Inhumans started committing suicide and they
considered
Lhos and his allies archaic and part of the old ways.
(Marvel Graphic Novel I#39) – Tally, a young
Inhuman woman
set to be married to someone she didn't love, committed suicide and
many
civilians blamed the Council. Lhos, Krepit and Gerion dressed for their
duties, struggling with their basic memories due to their advanced age,
and
Lhos made sure to grab the holy lists on his way out the door. After
tending to
his basic duties, Lhos struggled to keep control of the assembled crowd
as they
complained about the suicides then Medusa, with Black Bolt, made the
public
announcement that she was pregnant. Lhos was furious, stating that the
Royal
Family was not above the law. Fearing that the child's powers would be
destructive like Black Bolt's or that he'd be insane like Maximus the
Mad,
Lhos ordered that the baby be destroyed. Medusa argued that the child
could be
born and never undergo Terrigenesis but Lhos reminded them that Karnak
had developed
powers without the mists. Black Bolt sided with the Council, inspiring
Medusa
to flee, and she later teleported to Earth with the Royal Family and
gave birth
there. Later, the Royal Family returned to Attilan, where they
presented the
baby (later named Ahura) to the Council. Lhos took the child, stating
one life
was not above all of the Inhuman populace or the long history of
tradition and
respect for their elders.
(Fantastic Four Unlimited I#2
(fb) – BTS) – The Genetics
Council refused to return the child to Black Bolt and Medusa. In time,
they
made a deal with Skip Ash, a wealthy businessman on Earth, who was
seeking
Inhuman DNA to use in his experiments and he gave the Inhumans human
technology in return. They sent the baby to him in a space ship but it
went
off course and crashed on Earth. Lhos began to alter his own genetic
structure
so that he could absorb Ahura's power when the boy returned. He also
had a
machine called the Morphtron constructed, one which would siphon off
Ahura's
powers.
(Fantastic Four Unlimited I#2) – Lhos sent a group
of
Inhumans including the Seeker (Uys), Leonus, Pinius, Pinyon, Falcona,
Timberius and the Burrowers to retrieve Ahura. Returning the boy to
Attilan,
the Seeker reported that Gorgon and Karnak had helped hide the child
with a
family on Earth and Lhos promised to test the child to find out who had
sent
him to Earth months before.
Lhos addressed the public (including guests the
Fantastic Four), promising forgiveness for all those who had sent Ahura
to Earth,
and then told Black Bolt he was responsible for the good behavior of
the Royal
Family. Lhaos then said they would have to keep Ahura with the Council
for an
indeterminate period of time. Lhos ordered Felor to place Ahura
in the
Morphotron, which would sap Ahura's will and power as part of Lhos'
plot to
depose Black Bolt and rule Attilan himself. As Lhos activated the
Morphotron,
the Fantastic Four tried saving Ahura but realized the machine had been
set to
explode if Ahura was removed. Flanked by guards, the Genetics Council
stood
against the angry Royal Family and Fantastic Four, and Lhos retreated
to the
Council Tower, where he succeeded in siphoning Ahura's powers,
transforming himself and
gaining greater powers. Lhos boasted about fooling Black Bolt all
along, stating
he'd long had aspirations to rule Attilan as he fired his "evil eye,"
destroying the Tower with a blast. After burying Gerion and Krepit in
rubble,
seemingly killing them, Lhos lashed out at the city with telekinetics,
destroying everything in sight as Ahura was freed. Mad with his new
power,
which included invulnerability, Lhos declared himself a god and had
thoughts of
destroying the moon itself. When Ahura was able to pull all of his
power back
into himself, Lhos withered away, disappearing, leaving only his robes
behind.
