History:
(Daredevil I#245 (fb) - BTS) - A cousin of the Black Panther, M'Koni was introduced by T'Challa to one of his elite aerial warriors, a man who went by Wheeler. They fell in love and married, eventually moving to New York City. M'Koni took the name Mary Wheeler and soon bore a child, Billy, but it wasn't long before Wheeler started gambling and neglecting his family.
(Daredevil I#245 - BTS) - Depressed, Mary locked herself in her room for several days, telling Billy she would only come out when Wheeler finally brought home some groceries. Later, Wheeler returned home with a wounded arm, promising that he had quit gambling and that he had a job. He made dinner and Mary agreed to come out of her room.
(Black Panther III#31 (fb) - BTS) - Suspecting her husband of cheating, Mary hired private investigator Dakota North to follow him.
(Black Panther III#31) - North delivered photographic evidence that Wheeler had been cheating on Mary with Malice, a former Dora Milaje. When T'Challa called to check on Mary, she lied, in tears, and said Wheeler had been faithful and not gambling for years. She then took sleeping pills to fall asleep. Billy returned home and found Mary non-responsive.
(Black Panther III#32 (fb) - BTS) - Mary was rushed to the hospital for treatment, and there they learned that the sleeping pills she'd taken had been replaced by Malice, intending to kill Mary, but she'd only taken half a pill. Black Panther got her to safety, and left Okoye to pose as Mary.
(Black Panther III#32 - BTS) - A doctor under the influence of Malice checked on Mary, but Okoye revealed herself and, with Black Panther, fought back against Malice.
(Black Panther III#33) - Mary awakened in the hospital with Billy and Black Panther at her side.

CLARIFICATIONS:
M'Koni/Maria Wheeler should not be confused with:
(Daredevil I#245 (fb) - BTS) - Billy Wheeler was the son of two Wakandans living in New York City, Wheeler and Mary. His father started gambling heavily, putting the family in extreme debt. At one point, the Black Panther gave Billy his phone number, telling him to call if he was ever in trouble. He kept making promises to Billy to bring him basic supplies, even simple luxuries like a tennis ball. Wheeler disappeared for days and Mary locked herself in her room, stating she wouldn't come out until Wheeler came home with food. (Daredevil I#245) - Wheeler finally came home and Billy asked about his tennis ball or food. He informed Wheeler that Mary was locked in the bedroom, and he begged for his father's help. Wheeler, promising to return with supplies and even a sailboat, departed again. Billy called Black Panther for help, feeling it was an emergency. Later, Wheeler returned home, his arm wounded, but he informed the family that he was out of debt and that he had a job. He gave Billy his old military helmet, then made dinner for the family. (Black Panther III#31) - Billy returned home to find his mother had seemingly overdosed on sleeping pills. (Black Panther III#33) - Black Panther saw Mary get medical treatment as Billy stood at her side. --Daredevil I#245 ([Daredevil I#245 (fb)], 245, Black Panther III#31, 33 |
