History: (Daredevil I#360 (fb) - BTS) - Edward Nelson married Rosalind Sharpe and they had a child, but Rosalind left while Foggy was young. Edward remarried, to Anna, the woman who raised Foggy as her own. Foggy only had passing connections with his biological mother as he grew up. (Daredevil I#373 (fb) - BTS) - Edward and Anna had a daughter of their own, Candace, who they often called Candy. Candace may have been adopted (see comments). Foggy and Candy grew up as half-siblings, considering each other siblings. (Daredevil I#-1 (fb) ) - Foggy later went to law school and became a lawyer in New York City. The family butler, Fitzroy, helped him move. (Daredevil I#113 (fb) - BTS) - Seeing Foggy as part of the "establishment", Candace refused to speak with him or associate with him. They avoided each other for over six years. (Daredevil I#113 (fb) - BTS) - Candace enrolled at Empire State University in the School of Journalism. Working under Dr. Charles Laing as her academic advisor, Candace declared her research project in investigative journalism would focus on the relationship between the school and the military. She began a thorough and unbiased investigation. (Daredevil I#113 (fb)) - While researching, Candace came upon the Sallis Papers, detailing a secret project from a few years before about Operation: Sulphur, which would turn men into pollution-breathing monsters. She stole the file and took it to Laing, announcing her intent to make the papers public. Both the university and the Pentagon planned to deny the papers. (Daredevil I#113 (fb) - BTS) - Candace decided to hold on to the papers. (Daredevil I#108 (fb) - BTS) - After Foggy Nelson was shot, the Nelson family rushed to his bedside. They became acquainted with Foggy's fiancée, Debbie Harris. (Daredevil I#108) - At the hospital, Foggy's parents and daughter Candace, met Matt Murdock for the first time. Matt pointed out that Foggy had never mentioned Candace, and she wasn't surprised, stating Foggy probably didn't want her corrupting all of his friends. (Daredevil I#109) - Two months passed, and Foggy began healing. Candace invited Matt to see a play with her, though he always seemed rushed and exasperated. (Marvel Two-in-One I#3) - Matt went to a play with Candace, "America Shall Endure", but when the actors turned on each other (manipulated by Nekra and Black Spectre), killing each other on stage, Candace fled and lost Matt in the crowd. (Daredevil I#111) - At the hospital, Candace found that Robert "Irongut" O'Hara and Foggy had been attacked by Black Spectre agents. She ran into Matt and was glad to see him okay. Over coffee with Matt, Candace hinted that she had been a journalism major but was now involved in some trouble at school, but she was reluctant to say what it was. She also told Matt that she knew why Foggy had never mentioned her. (Daredevil I#113) - When the F.B.I. showed up to seize Candace's papers and arrest her, she tried calling Matt Murdock to represent her as attorney, but he didn't answer. Before she could be arrested, Gladiator broke into the room, badly wounding the agents and kidnapping Candace by jumping out the window with Candace. He admitted working for the Death-Stalker, and seized the Sallis Papers. She was taken to the Florida Everglades, to Death-Stalker. (Daredevil I#114) - Death-Stalker and Gladiator took Daredevil and Richard Rory captive as well. Death-Stalker took Candace away after questioning her, having Gladiator set the cabin on fire to kill the other two. Back in New York, Death-Stalker tied Candace and Foggy up, then forced Foggy to pretend things were fine on the phone with Matt, to lead Daredevil into a trap. (Daredevil I#115) - Daredevil burst in and chased Death-Stalker away. Matt Murdock arrived to untie Foggy and Candace. Matt told Foggy the truth, and Foggy was prepared to turn Candace in, realizing she was supposed to be under arrest. Foggy instead put Candace in a hotel room with Matt to watch over her, then he went to try to convince the federal prosecutor, Nettleton, to go easy on her given the circumstances. Candace convinced Matt that Death-Stalker wanted the Sallis Papers due to their potential applications in making humans immune to bio-weapons, and Matt left to think. (Daredevil I#116) - Candace woke in her hotel room to find Foggy and Matt, who claimed he had been mugged, there. Matt reported that Daredevil had defeated the Death-Stalker and destroyed the Sallis Papers. The next day, Matt worked to get the charges against Candace dropped. (Daredevil I#117) - Candace told Foggy the good news, that a Senate sub-committee was investigating the Sallis Papers and using her as a star witness, which would likely lead to her charges being dropped. Foggy expressed his disgust that she had gotten in trouble with the law in the first place. (Daredevil I#118 - BTS) - Candace prepared to leave town. (Daredevil I#119 (fb) - BTS) - Matt spent time exploring New York City nightlife with Candace. (Daredevil I#119) - After interacting with a man on the street who was critical of heroes (who couldn't wait to tell Blanche about Daredevil), Matt visited Foggy and Candace, who kissed Matt on the cheek to say goodbye. She left for Washington D.C. to work with the Senate sub-committee. (Daredevil I#122) - Hearing the news that Foggy had been kidnapped by Hydra, Candace rushed back to New York to wait with Foggy's fiancée, Debbie Harris. Daredevil and Black Widow checked on the women before following a lead. (Daredevil I#130) - Candace returned to New York and found Foggy with Matt at his new business the Storefront. Candace kissed Matt, making his new girlfriend Heather Glenn jealous. (Daredevil I#166) - Candace flew from Akron, Ohio to New York with her parents to attend Foggy's wedding to Debbie Harris, and Candace immediately flirted with Matt upon entering the room, and she soon met Foggy's friend Porkchop Peterson. Later, Foggy married Debbie at the church. (Daredevil I#229 - BTS) - Foggy bought a Christmas gift for Candace (who he called Cindy). (Daredevil I#373 (fb) - BTS) - Candace spent months living on the West Coast, enjoying the free life. (Daredevil I#375 (fb) - BTS) - On at least one occasion, Candace smuggled illegal immigrants into the country in her vehicle. (Daredevil I#370 - BTS) - Candace left Foggy a message, telling him she was coming to visit. (Daredevil I#371 (fb) - BTS) - Candace arrived at Foggy's home and he wasn't there, so she invited people from the street up as she threw a welcoming party for herself. (Daredevil I#371) - Foggy arrived home, shocked to see Candance throwing a party. Foggy threw out the guests, including Candace's new friend Marissa Dwyer. Candace then gave Foggy a huge hug. (Daredevil I#373) - After Foggy brought Candace up to speed on his recent dating life, he was asking her why she was there when Carlton, the doorman, buzzed that his mother was there. Rosalind Sharpe, Foggy's birth mother, teased Candace for being adopted, then offered Candance a job. Foggy reacted with scorn and Candace left, feeling unsupported. Candace reflected on feeling safer with the heroes in New York City as she went to visit Marissa, but the apartment was empty so Candace waited outside. A cop approached, asking Candace to return to the station with him to answer questions about "Marissa McTaggert". (Daredevil I#374) - Candace answered questions to the policeman, who was identified as Charles Boroughs, but she realized quickly that he was mad. Candace waited outside Charles' apartment as he changed, and they prepared to go look for Marissa in the clubs (interacting with bouncer Mike). Foggy and Matt went looking for Candance, paying off bouncer Mike to get inside, and they saw Charles forcing Candace outside by grabbing her wrist. Daredevil saved Candace and sent Charles running, then Candace embraced Foggy. (Daredevil I#375 (fb) - BTS) - Karen Page was arrested after seemingly killing Charles Boroughs, who she claimed was her stalker. Foggy prepared Candace to give testimony against Burroughs during Karen's murder trial. (Daredevil I#375) - After getting the news that Marissa Dwyer was still alive and that she'd been dropped into court during the trial, having been tortured, Candace was questioned on the stand by defense attorney Matt Murdock and prosecutor Blake Tower, who exposed her activity in smuggling immigrants in. Foggy was humiliated. Comments: Created by Steve Gerber (writer), Bob Brown (penciler) & Paul Gullacy (inker). Edward Nelson fathered Foggy Nelson with Rosalind Sharpe, then he married Anna Nelson. Candace is the daughter of Edward and Anna. In Daredevil I#373, Rosalind Sharpe hints that Candace might have been adopted, but this could have been a comment in passing. Candace is referred to as Foggy's half-sister regardless, but generally just says she is his sister. Profile by Chadman. CLARIFICATIONS:
