History:
(Conan the Barbarian I#58 - BTS) - Odongo was present on the Tigress when Bêlit led the Black Corsairs to assault the Argus ship captained by Tito and with Conan in its crew.
(Conan the Barbarian I#58) - Having taken an arrow in his sword-arm, Tito urged Conan to pull out the arrow as they might still win the day, but before Conan had a chance, Odongo finished off Tito with his axe, cursing him as a Hyborian dog. |
(Conan the Barbarian I#58) - Enraged by Tito's death, Conan broke free and scrambled onto the Tigress' deck
and slew multiple crewmen before being cornered by numerous spear-wielding Black Corsairs.
Considering Conan to be "
fierce and hard as a gray wolf!", Bêlit decided to test this "wolf" against a "coal
tiger," and instructed Conan -- at the threat of her spear-tossers --
to face her large warrior Odongo, each armed only with a dagger. The two warriors silently engaged each other, each man's left hand grasping the other's dagger-holding right hand. Although their strength was comparable, Odongo's mass and momentum allowed him to drive Conan back against the Tigress' bulwark. |
(Conan the Barbarian I#58) - Bêlit stared intently as Odongo forced his dagger toward Conan's throat, even nicking his flesh, but then Conan suddenly twisted and kicked/tossed Odongo overboard. Odongo's anguished cry was silenced as he hit the water, but soon resumed as he surfaced, surrounded by sharks...but his vocalization did not last long. |
Comments: Created by Roy Thomas, John Buscema, and Steve Gan.
For those who need the blanks filled in, Odongo was presumably slain by the sharks.
My expert witnesses assure me that Odongo did not appear in REH's "Queen of the Black Coast" and that he was purely a Marvel creation, as was the whole testing of Conan by Bêlit.
