History:
(Wild Western I#3/3 (fb) - BTS) - Pretty Face and his
small gang committed various robberies at gunpoint, remaining fugitives
for almost a year. At some point, he used his slight frame to disguise
himself as a woman with an eyemask and further evade the law. However,
the highly unusual nature of a female outlaw brought suspicion upon the
roving gunslinger Arizona Annie, who was imprisoned along with her
partner Slim Smith in the jail of the town being plagued by the
incognito Pretty Face.
(Wild Western I#3/3) - Pretty Face and his two
henchmen again struck and rode off into the hills, intending to
separate to evade the search posse, with the sheriff unwilling to shoot a woman. But Arizona Annie had freed herself
and gave pursuit. She found Pretty Face in his female guise and feigned
interest in joining. Annie asked for a cigarette and Pretty face lit it
for her, yielding the clue that the would-be female outlaw was a man.
Annie quickly overpowered the gang just as the search posse arrived. Annie
revealed the outlaw's true nature to the relieved sheriff and the outlaws were
arrested.
Comments: Created by Bill Woolfolk & Lin Streeter.
Many of Arizona Annie's early adventures were
allegedly fictionalized and embellished in dime novels, so it's unclear
just how accurate this story may be.
