Powers/Abilities: Scragg is a giant insectoid monster who longs for peace and coexistence without violence. Scragg possesses huge insectoid wings that allow him to fly, massive claws, an adhesive spit that sticks to others, and the ability to generate a swarm of insects from his mouth that can consume nearly anything in front of them. Scragg remembers coming from a society with a hive mind, and he was later able to form that mental bond with a group of mutated giant bees. After being killed, Scragg emerged as a smaller version of himself, though it is unknown which of his powers he retains besides flying or how exactly he survived (see comments). Scragg was briefly infected by a symbiote and a Poison before being seemingly killed, though he had little time to experience the power of either. Scragg is a component of the composite monster Smasher, which is at times assembled by Kei Kawade to battle larger threats. Scragg has lost some of his own strength when Kid Kaiju's confidence suffers.
Height: 32'
Weight: 40,000 lbs.

History:
(Monsters Unleashed III#7 (fb) ) - After his seeming creation at the hands of Kei Kawade, Scragg had memories of growing up in a world that was a vast hive of peace and love and tranquility, where he and his race were terribly happy and with access to an endless supply of cosmic nectar.
(Monsters Unleashed II#4 (fb) - BTS) - Kei Kawade, an Inhuman child who used the name Kid Kaiju and who had the power to draw monsters and summon them from anywhere in the universe, began drawing original monsters, but he never finished them.
(Monsters Unleashed II#5) - During a battle with the Leviathon Mother, Kei finished drawing several original monsters, bringing them to life, including Mekara, Fireclaw, Scragg, Hi-Vo, Aegis, and Slizzik. They battled the massive alien beast and Fireclaw was soon killed. During the fight, Scragg shouted that he wished they could find a more peaceful resolution, and he used violence to protect others as he professed how he hated violence. Kei then turned the other five monsters into one giant composite monster, Smasher, and used it to defeat the alien. The five monsters soon accompanied Kei and his parents, Minouru and Deanna Kawade, and Elsa Bloodstone to the terraformed island Mu to live, where they would be under the supervision of S.H.I.E.LD. and Damage Control.
(Monsters Unleashed III#1) - Scragg and the others helped Kei defeat Animax in Salt Lake City. Back on Mu, they heard Gloria Clark of Damage Control scolding Kei. Scragg put a lot of effort into befriending the other monsters, Elsa Bloodstone, and H.E.R.B.I.E. before Leviathons under the control of Mole Man attacked a tanker at the coast of Texas.
(Monsters Unleashed III#2) - During the fight with the monsters, Scragg wished for tranquility instead of conflict, and they soon realized that Kei and Elsa had been kidnapped by Mole Man. Soon, S.H.I.E.L.D. approached, determined to contain Scragg and his friends.
(Monsters Unleashed III#3) - The monsters were shrunk down to small size by Pym Particles (by Dum Dum Dugan) and contained aboard the Helicarrier. Kei then summoned the smaller monsters to his location, where he was being held by the Intelligencia (with the Awesome Android).
(Monsters Unleashed III#4) - Scragg and the others provided counsel to Kei as the Intelligencia tried manipulating him. When Lady Hellbender and Elsa Bloodstone fought, the monsters were freed, and they attacked the villains despite their small size. After Scragg got Kei's pad and paper to him, Kei summoned Commander from Krangro to aid as the fight resolved, then he restored his monsters to their giant size. He combined the monsters into Smasher, then rushed back to Mu to fight a composite Leviathon monster.
(Monsters Unleashed III#5) - Smasher defeated the composite monster, then Scragg and the others defeated the individual Leviathons. The monsters then joined Kei in defeating the Intelligencia. They later taunted Dum Dum Dugan for being small. Later, they had a barbecue, and Scragg asked for vegetarian options.
(Monsters Unleashed III#6) - Scragg and the other monsters helped stop a nuclear reactor from exploding in Japan, and focused on saving civilians, and Scragg sent out his horde of insects to aid civilians who seemed frightened of the monsters.
(Monsters Unleashed III#7) - Scragg began wondering about his origins, and he told the others of his memories. The monsters were summoned by Kei and Elsa to the Savage Land to battle the Poison Fin Fang Foom, but they realized their powers were waning due to Kei's confidence failing. The Poison Foom attacked Mekara, who told Kei and Elsa to run, but then dinosaurs distracted Foom.
(Monsters Unleashed III#8) - Kei summoned the real Fin Fang Foom to battle the Poison one, and soon he restored his monsters to full strength when his confidence returned. The Poison Foom was killed, and the monsters returned to Mu. Scragg began to realize he and the others were bound to Kei in ways he could never have suspected.
(Monsters Unleashed III#9) - On Monster Island, Scragg was bored when Gloria Clark informed Kei Kawade about a group of giant bees in San Francisco. Scragg gladly volunteered to help Kei on the mission, looking forward to communing with insect life again, and Kei was shocked to hear that Scragg had been lonely. At the Santomon Campus in San Francisco, Scragg rushed to communicate with the bees, but they panicked and swarmed him, pulling Kei away and taking him into their hive. Scragg followed them in and they found the massive queen inside. Realizing the bees communicated through movement, Scragg began dancing, finding a way to commune with the swarm, and they soon became allies. The bees were invited back to Mu to live.
(Monsters Unleashed III#11) - Scragg interacted with the bees, and later saw Kei and Mekara return with Egg, a baby Technarch.
(Monsters Unleashed III#12) - Scragg saw Kei return from a mission, having found new ways to communicate with Slizzik and Hi-Vo.
(Venomized#3) - Kei summoned Scragg and the others to New York City to aid in a battle against the invading Poisons. (Venomized#4) - Kei had Scragg and the others stand against the Poison Thanos. (Venomized#5) - The Poisons infected Scragg with a symbiote and then a Poison, seeking to turn him to their kind. Poison Scragg rushed to attack Kei, but Anti-Venom (Flash Thompson) infected Poison Scragg, seemingly killing him. Much later, after the Poisons were defeated, a tiny Scragg followed Kei back to Mu. |
(Marvel Monsters II#1) - Scragg, slowly growing back to his normal self, joined Kei in investigating monster reports on an isolated island, and they discovered the experiments of Maximilian Frankenstein, who soon attacked with his homemade monsters. Kei summoned his other monsters, and Scragg took out one giant monster by attacking its eyes. Frankenstein was soon defeated.
Comments: Created by Cullen Bunn and Adam Kubert.
Some of the details about Scragg were revealed initially in an interview by Cullen Bunn about the Monsters Unleashed event. Scragg is a lovable monster who longs for peaceful coexistence and a world without violence. He refers to himself in the third person, often adding adjectives to describe himself, such as the Mighty Scragg. Scragg is a vegetarian. In Venomized#5, Scragg was killed after being turned into a Poison. Later, a bug calling himself Scragg was reborn on Mu. In Marvel Monsters II#1, Kei references the first Scragg dying and the newly growing Scragg as a new being, which could mean this is a distinct character after hatching, a newly born Scragg, or a new creature summoned by Kei. Scragg has memories of his home world, but they may be real memories or implanted memories from his creation by Kei.
