History:
(Exiles I#84 (fb) - BTS) - On Earth-3470, the Cold
War never ended, but the Soviet Union became desperate as it teetered
on economic collapse, unable to maintain its army or keep up with
technology, so its elite fighting group, the Soviet Super-Soldiers
(Crimson Dynamo, Darkstar, Red Guardian, Ursa Major and Vanguard) led one
last bid to prop up the Easter Bloc with Darkstar using her Darkforce
powers to summon the dangerous Elder god Chernobog in a misguided
effort to save Russia. The summoning took three days at the North Pole
to complete, with her four team-mates by her side to protect her.
(Exiles I#84) - Guided by the Multiverse-meddling
Timebreakers, the Exiles were able to determine Chernobog's deadly
motives in advance, and most were dispatched from the Panoptichron
(Crystal Palace) to assist Alpha Flight, with Longshot and Morph left
behind to keep watch. Because the Exile Sasquatch was from the same
reality, the team-up with the local Alpha Flight from Canada went smoothly and they
broke Darkstar's summoning, despite her team-mates'
best efforts to stop them. The Timebreakers manipulated Morph and
Longshot into leaving as well. Chernobog was cast back into the Dark
Dimension while the bound Soviet Super-Soldiers were taken away by
Canada's super team.

There's a mix-up with the word balloons at one point: Vanguard says to Red Guardian "Use your force field, Vanguard." So it's either meant to be Red Guardian telling Vanguard to use his force field, or Vanguard telling Red Guardian to use his force field. Whichever, it was all for naught as the clumsy Soviet Super-Soldiers were fairly easily overcome; the biggest threat was Chernobog.
This team is the Earth-3470 counterpart of Earth-616's Soviet Super Soldiers, first seen in Incredible Hulk II#258.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Soviet Super-Soldiers of Earth-3470 have no known connections to:
Crimson Dynamo had a flying suit of protective armor
fitted with internal scanners that could fire blasts from his gloves.
To protect Darkstar as she
summoned Chernobog, he flew up to shoot down the approaching Alpha
Flight jet, but was instead knocked down by Alpha Flight's Guardian and
the Exiles' Power Princess.
--Exiles I#84
Darkstar drew her power from the Darkforce, the
source of which was an Elder god named Chernobog. With Russia facing
economic collapse, the Soviet Super-Soldiers led a last-ditch effort to
save Russia by summoning Chernobog, unaware of its dark nature. At the
North Pole, she strained as she concentrated continuously over three
days, almost completing the summoning, until it was broken with the
arrival of Alpha Flight and the Exiles. She and the other Soviet
Super-Soldiers fought back, but were overwhelmed and Chernobog was cast
back.
--Exiles I#84
Red Guardian had a protective mesh armored suit and was a proficient hand-to-hand combatant, but proved no match against Alpha Flight as he sought to protect Darkstar.
--Exiles I#84
Ursa Major had a bear-like form with a bear's
strength, speed and dexterity, but maintained human consciousness. He
was concerned for Darkstar's welfare as she summoned Chernobog, but
ultimately proved no match for the combined might of Alpha Flight and
the Exiles.
--Exiles I#84
Vanguard was a fierce protector of Russia armed with
energy-charged symbols of Soviet Russia: hammer and sickle. He was a
proficient hand-to-hand combatant and tried hard to protect Darkstar as
she summoned the dark god Chernobog, but failed in stopping Alpha
Flight. He was taken away disarmed and in shackles.
