History:
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb)) - Brenda's
mother became pregnant during an affair with wealthy and married businessman Harold Meachum.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb)) - Upon seeing the infant Brenda, Harold apparently fell in love with
the baby girl and promised to leave his own family for Brenda and her
mother...as soon as he returned from his business trip with his partner.
(Marvel Premiere I#18 (fb) - BTS / Marvel
Premiere I#18 (fb) - BTS) - Unbeknownst to Brenda's mother, Harold trip
was with Daniel, Wendell, and Heather Rand, with the latter two
perishing, Daniel being brought into K'un-Lun to become Iron Fist, and
Harold losing both of his legs.
(Marvel Premiere I#18 (fb) - BTS / Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb))
- Although Harold eventually returned to New York, he was obsessed with
the idea that Daniel would seek vengeance on him for his role in
Wendell and Heather's deaths.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb)
- BTS) - Harold said something to Brenda's mother that gutted her
emotionally. They never heard from him again, and he cut them out of
his life.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - Brenda watched her mother slowly die for 10 years.
(Marvel Premiere I#18 - BTS) - Although the adult
Daniel Rand, now Iron Fist, spared Harold Meachum, Harold was instead
slain by the mysterious Ninja.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - Two days later, on her deathbed, Brenda's mother made Brenda promise to even the score, no matter what it took to do so.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb)) - Brenda took the small fortune Harold had left Brenda and her mother and spent every cent of it training to kill.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - Brenda trained in Muay Thai in Thailand.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - Brenda trained in Pankration in Greece.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - Brenda trained in Jiujitsu in Brazil.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - Brenda trained in firearms and Krav Maga in Israel.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - When the money ran out, Brenda spent two years fighting with Kurdish forces in Syria.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - Unconcerned with politics, Brenda spent another year fighting with the Syrian dictator's regime.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) -
Brenda focused on the most complete and modern tactics of death, and
she planned everything meticulously until she was ready to avenge the
death of her father.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#1 (fb) - BTS) - Feeling stuck in a rut and
unable to sleep, Danny Rand decided to try some romance.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#4 (fb) - BTS) - Posing as a reporter, Brenda arranged an interview with Danny Rand.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#6 (fb)) - Brenda prepared for her date with
Danny Rand, reminding herself to talk about the kids at Rand's school.
When she questioned what she was doing, she reminded herself that this
was everything she ever wanted and that she just had to make Danny feel
the same way.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#8 (fb)) - As Brenda stood inside a restaurant,
Danny walked by and initially mistook her to be his mother. Seeing
Danny, Brenda stepped outside, noting she wasn't sure he saw her,
reintroduced herself, and told him she would get them a table.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#1) - Brenda
went out on a date with Danny Rand, chatting constantly during dinner
at a restaurant at least partially to make up for his lack of
conversation. She accompanied him in his limousine back to his
apartment.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#4 (fb)) - That night, in bed, Brenda became
frustrated with Danny for being aloof and despondent; she agreed to
stay if he would finish their interview, learning of his relationships
with his parents, but sidestepping questions about her own family. She
later criticized his spending time and money on teaching Kung Fu to
kids when he could be putting it into creating jobs, and -- while
teaching her Kung Fu at her request -- he explained how he was teaching
kids how to find a path in what otherwise seemed to be only locked
doors in front of them. Seemingly carried away in the struggle, she
kicked him in the head and subsequently hit him with her tazer, mocking
his argument about it not being fair; when she tried to get him again,
he removed the device's batteries before she struck. He then put his
moves on her, making her feel all tingly...
Later that night, Danny had a nightmare and then visions about his
mother, leading him to run to the bathroom and throw up. When he came
out, he warned her she needed to leave as she was in danger by being
near him and could get hurt, but she instead encouraged him to more
romance...after he brushed his teeth.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - At some point during their first night together, Brenda fell in love with Danny.
Realizing that killing Danny would never be enough,
Brenda resolved to make him fall in love with her so that she could
hurt him by killing herself.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#1) - Brenda slept for awhile but
awakened to find Danny still up. She began to suggest what he needed, but, sensing a pair of apache helicopters descending rapidly, Danny leapt through the window to draw them away from Brenda.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#1 (fb) - BTS) - While Danny
took out the helicopters and many of the descending ninja, a cyborg (or
robot) creature entered his apartment and grabbed Brenda by the neck.
(Iron Fist: The Living Weapon#1) - When Danny returned the cyborg asked where was the girl, and it pummeled Danny
when he failed to summon his Iron Fist power. Having not cared to
remember her name, he told "Debbie" to run; as she corrected him and
called him a jerk, the cyborg hurled her against the wall. As it raised
its sword over Brenda and again demanded the girl, Danny
kicked its head off, incapacitating it. When his Iron Fist power
re-ignited, he noted it to be weird, and she angrily asked why
that weird, but that the "zombie robot"
that almost cut her into sushi was not. He told "Barbie" to calm down
and she slapped him, correcting her name and spelling it out again
before she was surprised by and called out for Danny to look out as
another cloaked figure approached behind him. Danny barely stopped
himself in time from striking the young girl, Pei (Brenda realized that
this was "the girl" the cyborg had sought). Pei barely had time to
relay the message that he needed to "get bak" before she collapsed
from collapsing, with four arrows having penetrated her backpack, at
least.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#2) - As Brenda panicked, Daniel told her the
injured girl was stable and instructed her to call 9-1-1; she was upset
when she realized he was going to leave (as he knew he had to head back
to K'un-Lun), and she was further irritated when he called her "Karyn"
in the process. She called 9-1-1 and called for an ambulance, though
she rambled somewhat.
Brenda remained on the
phone as the ambulance was en route, and when Pei repeatedly spoke the
word "egg," Brenda thought "little kung fu girl" was hungry and worried
that she couldn't cook. Brenda was also disturbed as the cyborg that
had previously attacked her burst into flame.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#3 (fb) - BTS) - Brenda gave a report of her encounter with the attackers.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#3) - At Marion M. Graham
Hospital, Brenda was
watching over Pei when Detective Li arrived and asked her to step
outside to discuss her encounters. Brenda reaffirmed what she had
previously discussed, explaining specifically how the zombie cyborg had
smelled and that it had been asking for the girl, not for Daniel Rand.
As Li tried to assure Brenda they would keep her safe, one of the
Terror Priests smashed through the ceiling as a result of a fight
between the Crane Mother's Daughters and the Terror Priests, both of
whom sought Pei.
Li ordered Brenda to get to the exits, assuring her that was the best
thing she could do. Brenda was torn about what to do until she saw Pei
running down the hall, and she followed Pei. Following Pei down the
stairs, Brenda tried to convince Pei to stay there where the police
could protect her, but Pei argued that the police were no help. The
wall suddenly shattered behind them and a she-spider-demon-thing
emerged, seeking Pei. Hearing the creature's taunts and threats, Brenda
asked Pei if she was right that this lady did not seem friendly, and
Pei corrected her that that was no lady.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#5) - As the spider-thing approached, Brenda
tried to prevent Pei from confronting it, ultimately tackling Pei out
of the way when the spider-thing dove for her. Brenda then leapt atop
the spider-thing, mocking the seeming advantage of its extra limbs as
just one more thing to hold onto. Swinging the spider-thing to the
ground, Brenda tore off two its arms, taunting it in the process.
When Davos arrived, Brenda ordered Pei to run.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#5 (fb) - BTS) - Davos and his Terror Priests apparently incapacitated Brenda and went after Pei.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#5) - Brenda revived as Detective Li and the
other officers arrived, noting how she couldn't stop them and that they
were after Pei.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#6) - Detective Li and the police followed as Brenda raced to catch up with Pei
When they finally caught up, they found Pei in the
hands of Davos. Though Brenda advised Li to be careful, when Davos
seemed to level a weapon, the police opened fire on Davos; wounded,
Davos extended cybernetic weaponry that drained the lives of the other
police, leaving only Li and Brenda alive.
After Davos departed with
Pei, Brenda advised Li to get up and stop crying, as they had to see
this to the finish.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#7) - With Detective Li, Brenda watched Rand
Tower with a pair of binocculars. While Li complained that his family
still thought he was dead, Brenda advised him that if the bad guys
found out he wasn't dead then he would be soon enough.
As Brenda advised him that their opponents had left
no witnesses back at the hospital, Mr. Miller, thrown out of the top of
the Rand Tower by Davos at the One's request, crashed into a car on the
streets beside them. As Li prepared to
call in their findings to the rest of the police, Brenda told him they
only had one chance to save Pei and there could be no mistakes, so they
couldn't call in anyone for help. As "they" collected the body, she
shushed Li, telling them they didn't have much time.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#7 - BTS) - When Li and Brenda attempted to infiltrate Rand Tower as Fed-XPS employees
delivering packages, the building's security recognized them as being
armed but nonetheless considered them a minimal threat.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#7) - Darius Scott Pilling (now under the
influence of the One) met
Swanson and Li, surprising Li and causing him to scream. Brenda tried
to cover this by explaining that her associate was undergoing
training..."and has Aspergers, or epilepsy...no, you know that thing where youre always swearing at people..."(she meant Tourette syndrome).
Unphased by any of this, Pilling offered to take them to someone qualified to
sign for their deliveries. Swanson complimented Pillings on the building, and
he discussed in detail the buildings upgrades and history. Regardless, this was all talk
to keep their minds occupied, and he finally brought them to a room in
which all of the residents of K'un-Lun were held in egg-like stasis
devices. Departing, he told them to have a seat, and someone would be
with them in a moment.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#9 (fb)) - Brenda was captured and imprisoned in
a stasis tank at the bottom of Rand Tower alongside Pei, their chi used
to power the One.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#9) - After Iron Fist was smashed into the
basement by the One, the Fooh urged Daniel to take some of the chi for
himself, which he painfully did.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#10) - After the One stole the chi Daniel had
harnessed, Brenda and Detective Li were released. Li asked if she was
OK, and Brenda complained about a headache before crying out for Pei.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#11) - As Zhu-Rong, the god of fire unwittingly
summoned by the One's efforts to open a portal to the realm of the
dead, smashed down the One, Brenda asked "Kung-Fu Girl" if she was OK.
When Davos attempted to flee alongside the Terror Priests, Brenda and
Detective Li rallied behind Pei and Gork to stop him.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#11 (fb) - BTS) - Via the One's
connection to Rand Tower and to the chi of the K'un-Lun residents
within it, Daniel animated the entire Rand Tower into an immense
humanoid form and attacking Zhu-Rong.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#11) - As Zhu-Rong lashed out, incinerating the police confronting it, Daniel and the One assaulted assaulted Zhu-Rong via the animated building.
However, when Davos, desperate to
convince the others to flee with him, slew the young Gork, Brenda stood helplessly as Daniel lost
the power to control the building; Zhu-Rong then destroyed the building-robot.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#11 - BTS) - Daniel then used his Iron Fist to make Zhu-Rong explode
like a star going super-nova; the energies released transformed Pei
into a new Iron Fist, and she smashed Davos into or through the wall.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#11) - Brenda watched in shock as Pei's hands glowed with energy.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#12) - Brenda asked how Pei was and assured her that Daniel was find. When Daniel emerged from Zhu-Rong's
corpse/godstuff, naked and dripping with slime, but fully healed,
Brenda rushed over and dove onto him, wrapping her arms and legs around
him, kissing him despite the warning that he may taste like god brain.
When the Fooh emerged shortly thereafter, Brenda
wondered who the strange little man was, confirming that Fooh was now
back to life and seen by those around him. Brenda remained silent as
Sparrow took the rest of her people and returned to K-un-Lun while
instructing Daniel to train Pei.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#12 (fb) - BTS) - Brenda spent "half the time" at Daniel's apartment.
(Iron
Fist: The Living Weapon#12) - Three
months after the battle with Zhu-Rong, Brenda and Daniel went out on a
date, but when he told her he was falling for her and wanted to make
things more permanent, she reminded him that they had never finished
their interview and that when you started something, you had to finish
it, no matter what.
She then attacked him, and while Daniel dodged or
withstood her attacks, he tried to tell her that he didn't care what
her past was as he cared for her for who she was. She knocked him out a
window and continued to assault him, and when he told her he loved her,
she pulled a gun on him.
After revealing her full history, Brenda explained
her resolution to make her fall in love with him and then put the gun
to her head and fired. However, using his Iron Fist power, he caught
and stopped the bullet.
Kneeling on ground, Brenda noted that she had given
up her whole life for this one thing and wondered what she was supposed
to do now.
As she walked away, she told him that it was a
mistake not to kill him. Danny considered telling her to stay and to
live in the now, but he recognized the look in her eyes and knew that
she wasn't ready to listen, so he let her go.
(Immortal
Iron Fists I#5 (fb) - BTS) - Daniel told Pei that Brenda had gone
traveling, omiting the fact that she had tried to kill him.
(Immortal
Iron Fists I#5) - Under unspecified circumstances, Brenda arrived in
the extradimensional realm of the Pits where she had to fight powerful
creatures for her existence every day against monstrously large and powerful creatures.
(Immortal
Iron Fists I#5) - When Pei and her friend Jayce were sent to the Pits,
chained to a sword, and and confronted by a giant crab-creature,
Brenda appeared with a pair of huge swords, apparently slew the
creature, and welcomed Pei to the Pits, telling her she hoped she was
ready to fight.
(Immortal
Iron Fists I#6) - After Pei bested a three-armed challenger, Brenda
noted that the rewards would be great; although it might only be cheese
and bread, small comforts were great rewards in that world.
Brenda then noted that this world was cut off from
K'un-Lun chi and that every day you lived there was one that you
earned. Brenda advised Pei that she was a natural counter-puncher, and
that she should keep her fists up and protect her soft parts, as those
were what killed you.
After Mother-Dragon, allegedly the first of all
Shou-Lao, attacked and badly burned Jayce, Brenda arrived and told Pei
to get behind her so she could protect her. However, Pei grabbed one of
Brenda's swords and -- after Brenda argued she couldn't fight without
her Inron Fist -- broke it in half and countered that Daniel had taught
her that while weapons could be broken, she could not.
Guided via her remote connection to Daniel, Pei
defeated Mother-Dragon and returned to Brenda, who noted that Jayce had
perished. However, as Pei kissed Jayce, she released her chi into him,
healing him; the energies blinded Brenda, but allowed Daniel to sense
Pei and return her to Earth.
After Mother-Dragon appeared and noted her approval of Pei, she prepared to head back toher realm (K'un-Lun or the Pits?).;
as she flew off, Brenda leapt atop Mother-Dragon's shoulders, asked to
tag along, and greeted Daniel, telling him he was doing well with Pei
and to keep it up.
(Immortal
Iron Fists I#6 - BTS) - Either Jayce, Izzy, or Ray noted, "That may be the most basass chic -- er sister -- I've ever met in my life." Daniel agreed.
.
(Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon I#4 (fb) –
BTS) – Under unrevealed circumstances, Swanon was contacted by Hierophant, of
the Eighth City, who wanted to conquer reality. Hierophant tasked Swanson with
cutting out the hearts of the dragons of the other seven cities and bringing
them to him. In exchange, he promised her ultimate power so she could get her
revenge, and promised to give her the name Yama Dragonsbane. Swanson went to
several cities and took their dragon’s hearts.
.
(Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon I#3) –
After Iron Fist opened gates to each of the cities, in order to allow them to
appear on Earth, the city of Z’Gambo appeared in Wakanda. Clad in white and
riding an undead horse, Swanson killed some members of the Hatut Zeraze and
evaded Okoye before killing the Z’Gambo dragon, then taking its heart and
fleeing.
.
(Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon I#4) –
Swanson appeared before Hierophant, giving him four dragon’s hearts and calling
herself Yama Dragonsbane as she bathed herself in blood. Hierophant said she
had not yet earned that name but that he would give her ultimate power if she
were willing to pay the cost.
.
(Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon I#5) –
After killing civilians in Peng Lai, Swanson followed Heirophant on to Peng
Lai, where she became Yama Dragonsbane, the focus for the power of Heirophant,
in order to slay the goddess Quan Yin. Iron Fist, Pei, Gork (the final dragon),
Fat Cobra, Dog Brother #1, the Prince of Orphans, Fooh, Okoye (who held the chi
of the Spider Dragon), and Luke Cage attacked. Swanson tried slashing at Cage,
but he knocked her out with one punch.
.
(Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon I#6) – Swanson
was overwhelmed as Hierophant wielded godlike power in a battle against Fooh.
Hierophant soon attacked the assembled heroes, but he was defeated by Okoye.
Swanson was struck blind in the blast, and she vowed revenge on Iron Fist
still, but he chose to let her live.

Comments: Created by Kaare Kyle Andrews.
Brenda's origin notes her fighting
with Assad's regime. Even though it's been active from 1971-2000 with
Hafez al-Assad and his son Bashar Gafez al-Assad from 2000 through the
present, "Assad's regime" will presumably become a topical reference at
some point.
If Gork was K'un-Lun's dragon, and we saw Z'Gambo's dragon and the
Spider City's dragon, and the former was described as the last, then
that would seem to indicate that Brenda had previously taken out the
dragons from K'un-Zi (home of Crane Mother and her daughter), Peng Lai
city (home of Fat Cobra), "Tiger Island" (home of Tiger's Beautiful
Daughter), the Under City (home of Dog Brother#1), ...and I'm not sure
about the Eighth City's dragon...
