History:
(Daredevil I#246 (fb) - BTS) - Nigel Townes was a husband to Deedra and a father to Nigel Jr. when he went to jail for three years for burglary, armed robbery, and drug trafficking. After getting out of jail, he convinced his family to come home and he struggled to make ends meet, borrowing his friend Freddy's cab in the evenings so he could collect fares despite not being licensed.
(Daredevil I#246) - Nigel was having a night of low fares in the rain when he saw Daredevil and agreed to pick the hero up, though he threatened to hurt Daredevil if he tried anything. Getting more comfortable, Nigel babbled on about his family and history, then found himself following Daredevil's orders to catch up to a speeding car. Daredevil leapt from the window on top of the other car, where Robert Phalen was murdering Gromosky. Phalen fired on Nigel, who hit the brakes just in time. Against his better judgment, Nigel went to check on Daredevil and saw him battling a group of armed men. Nigel grabbed a metal bar to help fight, but Daredevil made short work of the men, though the last one misfired and riddled Freddy's cab with bullets. Nigel collapsed, realizing he now stood to lose everything. Nigel was arrested and detained by Murphy, who wanted him to testify before a grand jury about the things he had witnessed. Nigel was kept in a hotel overnight and wasn't allowed to call his family. Cops Braxton and Murphy watched over Nigel at a hotel room while he showered. The mercenary Chance (hired by Reynolds and others) attacked the room and Nigel, wearing only a towel, fled while Daredevil fought the man off. Nigel and Daredevil then had to fight back a group of men in a bar. The next morning, Nigel heard that Phalen had been killed (by Officer Greene) and he left Daredevil behind, determined to go home. When he got there, he found Chance sitting in his living room holding a note from Deedra, saying she had left with Nigel Jr. and didn't want to be found again. Nigel told Chance to go ahead and kill him, that he had nothing left to live for, but Chance was determined to let him live. Just then, Daredevil attacked and Chance decided to leave Nigel's fate up to the flip of a coin, heads for life and tails for death. Daredevil knocked the coin out of the air. Chance knocked Nigel down and fled, and Nigel soon realized that both sides of the coin had heads on it. Nigel testified for the grand jury, and then bid Daredevil farewell, determined to go off and find his family.
