History:
(Daredevil I#231 (fb) - BTS) - Doris moved to New York City from Idaho. She was always quick to trust others.

(Daredevil I#192 (fb) - BTS) - While working at a concession stand at Coney Island, Doris met Ben Urich, a journalism major at NYU.

(Spider-Man: Legacy of Evil#1 (fb) - BTS) - While they were courting, Ben regularly took Doris out dancing.

(Daredevil I#192 (fb) - BTS) - They soon married.

(Daredevil I#192 (fb) - BTS) - Ben and Doris spent several happy years together, making a life in the city. Life was hard, but she grew accustomed to the rough living of city life, with loud noises and uncomfortable smells.

(Daredevil I#192 (fb) - BTS) - Ben and Doris took a trip together to Atlantic City. Later, Doris would feel this was their last happy time together before Ben started getting absorbed in his work. She grew accustomed to life by herself in the apartment, with Ben working late nights while she tried to get by alone. Occasionally, they went house-hunting for a nicer place.

(Daredevil I#163) - Doris asked Ben to come to bed, but he was busy with his expose on the origins and identity of Daredevil.

(Daredevil I#179 - BTS) - Although he'd promised to be home early, Ben called Doris to tell her he was running late and asked her to put the casserole she'd made in the fridge.

(Daredevil I#179) - Ben got out of the shower and flirted with Doris, who was worried about how much he was working lately. He promised to spend the evening with her, but moments later he took a call and rushed away, frustrating Doris.

(Daredevil I#192) - Doris watched Ben sleep, and she realized this was his only peaceful time, the time she watched him before he woke up. She went in the kitchen and screamed when she saw a nest of roaches, waking up Ben. Doris told him that she was proud of his name being in the paper, but confessed she was lonely and needed a nicer place to get by; he agreed to take the day off and take her house-hunting. Doris fell in love with a home they looked at with realtor Barry Farnum, and Ben agreed to consider making a down payment. The next day, in the apartment, Doris shrieked when Daredevil appeared at her window, and she told Ben it was for him. Barry Farnum called to say the bank had approved the sale, and Doris gave Ben a huge hug.

(Daredevil I#192 - BTS) - Doris spent days singing and happy, but she soon learned from Daredevil that Farnum was mob-connected; they were seeking to corrupt Ben. She drove for hours, looking for Ben.

(Daredevil I#192) - Doris found Ben at Coney Island and told him not to buy the house. She fell in love with his heart and conscience, she said, and didn't want him to change; Ben promised to find her another house.

(Daredevil I#203 (fb) - BTS) - In the middle of the night, Daredevil called Ben to meet him at the Bugle, frustrating Doris.

(Daredevil I#207 - BTS) - Ben reported to Daredevil that Doris was well.

(Daredevil I#230) - Ben came home with a broken hand after being assaulted, causing Doris to fret over him, worrying about his safety.

(Daredevil I#231) - Doris was cleaning the apartment as Ben planned to have a guest over, his assigned bodyguard Officer Hegerfors, for the evening. She called to tell him she was running behind when she heard a knock at the door, and she saw a burly nurse named Lois Franklin who told her Ben was in trouble. Doris let Lois in, and Lois attacked Doris and hanged her from the light in the bathroom. Ben got home just in time to cut her down as his friend, Matt Murdock, arrived. Ben embraced Doris, grateful she was alive.

(Daredevil I#231 - BTS) - Doris healed well and began wearing a scarf to cover her neck scars. She laughed when Ben teased her about her new raspy voice.

(Marvels: Eye of the Camera#6) - Ben and Doris were at the funeral of Phil Sheldon alongside many other members of the Daily Bugle staff.

(Daredevil I#321 (fb) - BTS) - Doris enjoyed having Ben home for a few days while the Bugle was shut down.

(Daredevil I#321) - Doris was knitting on the couch when she got word that the Daily Bugle was opening back up. She invited Ben back to the bedroom to celebrate.

(Daredevil I#322) - Hearing an intruder in the middle of the night, Ben woke up Doris and grabbed a bat, hitting a filing cabinet, but the intruder was already gone.

(Daredevil I#339) - Out on a date with Ben, Doris was teasing him about not liking falafels when they were attacked by Kruel. Ben was hurt and screamed as Kruel slammed Doris's head into the ground.

(Amazing Spider-Man I#433) - At a Daily Bugle event with Doris, Ben was asked by Peter Parker about Dr. Calvin Zabo, and Ben helped him realize that Zabo was Mister Hyde. Soon, a masked man (Spider-Man in a hoodie) battled Mister Hyde at the party.

(World War Hulk: Front Line#6) - In the aftermath of the Hulk's attack, Doris returned and found she and Ben's home destroyed. Ben called and discovered super hero battles were not included in their coverage, so they were on their own. Doris found their wedding photo in the wreckage and cried.

(Secret Invasion: Front Line#5) - Ben returned home and discovered that Doris was dead.

(Siege: Embedded#1 (fb) - BTS) - Ben confided in a friend that Doris had cancer before she died.

Comments: Created by Roger McKenzie (writer), Josef Rubinstein (penciler) and Klaus Janson (inker).

I hate that Doris died basically off-panel in a passing moment. Death can always be temporary in comics, but this was a pathetic way to go. As the wife of a reporter, she was rarely seen but savagely subjected to violence and injury, at the hands of Lois Franklin and Kurse, upping the stakes for Ben Urich in various storylines.

Thanks to Markus Raymond for adding a few missed appearences (Marvels: Eye of the Camera#6, Amazing Spider-Man/Devil Dinosaur '98, Civil War: Front Line#11).
