History:
(Uncanny X-Men I#395 - BTS) - Ostracized by mankind for being a mutant, Cyclops joined the Tunnel Dwellers, a group of outcast British mutants living in the tunnels underneath London and eventually became their leader.
(Uncanny X-Men I#395) - Cyclops and the other mutants were present when three of the X-Men (Angel, Iceman and Nightcrawler) discovered their "home." It didn't take long for the one-eyed Cyclops to attack and scare them off. Subsequently Cyclops witnessed the arrival of Church of Humanity assassin Mister Clean (Paul Botham). Clean, calling himself the genetic cleanser, was hellbent on wiping out all mutants, starting with the Dwellers. He first killed Cyclops by burning him with his flamethrower after which he proceeded to pick the mutants off one by one.
Comments: Created by Joe Casey, Ian Churchill, Art Thibert and Norm Rapmund.
Mr. Clean wiping out the London Tunnel Dwellers was, of course, an homage to 1986's famed Mutant Massacre during which the Marauders butchered most of the Morlocks who lived in New York's sewers.
The London Tunnel Dwellers also appeared in the X-Men Novel X-Men: Watchers on the Walls (May, 2006) during the Chlorite invasion of Earth. Tunnel Dwellers who appeared in the novel were Nessie, Madcow and Spiny Norman.
Cyclops, as part of the Morlocks, received a Handbook profile in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z#7 (March, 2009).
