History:
(ToyFare
Spring Special - "Singular Sensation" article) - Due to
unrevealed circumstances, the Kingpin and Morbius were merged
into a single being dubbed Fatbat.
Comments: Created by Pablo Raimondi.
The character of Fatbat was
created as an action figure prototype sketch by Pablo Raimondi for Toy
Biz's Spider-Man: Arachniphobia toy line. The concept sketch appears to
be dated 06/26/1995 but was not seen until it was published in an
article in the
ToyFare Spring Special (April,
1997). Unfortunately, since the
action figure was never made, we don't have a card or box with flavor
text to give much more of a background (like an origin), only that he
was an amalgamation of Kingpin and Morbius.
It is likely that Fatbat exists in the same reality as the other Arachniphobia mashup characters, Earth-96201. While we did not have confirmation in the article, Fatbat is likely some sort of human mutate, much like the other mashup characters created for the toy line.
While Fatbat's hair color was impossible to determine due to the black and white concept art, there are notes on the art that appear to state that Fatbat has red eyes (although, honestly, it looks more like it says "Rad" rather than "Red").
The concept art shows Spider-Man
standing behind Fatbat, suggesting that Fatbat has some sort of
affiliation with Spider-Man. While what affiliation exactly is unclear,
it seems likely that they would be enemies. Also, if they were
affiliated, it would have to be prior to Spider-Man's own mashup
transformation into the Man-Lizard.
Oh, and for the record, Vampider,
a figure that WAS released in the Arachniphobia toy line, was a mashup
of Venom & Morbius sort of. While this character, Fatbat, appears
to be an amalgamation of Kingpin and the actual Morbius, Vampider's
mashup occurred because Morbius bit Venom and a reaction with the Venom
symbiote transformed Venom into Vampider without any change whatsoever
to Morbius.
Profile by Proto-Man.
