STANLEY HATHAWAY
Real Name: Stanley Hathaway
Identity/Class: Human;
late
1950's - pre-modern
era (extending to 1980);
these are the confirmed periods of activity, although
given his appearance in the 50s, he is very likely to have been born
around the turn of the century (likely before) and to have been
active in the 30's and 40's, possibly the 20's or before
Occupation: Apparent employee of the Explorers'
Club, data curator for the Monster Hunters
Group Membership: Possibly a member of the Explorers' Club, as opposed to being an employee (or possibly he was a former member, now retired)
Affiliations: Monster Hunters (Ulysses Bloodstone, Anthony Druid, Makkari, Zawadi); possibly David Hartnell;
Enemies: Harvey Elder (later the Mole
Man)
Known Relatives: Jacob
Steven Hathaway (son)
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Unrevealed;
formerly the Explorers' Club, Manhattan, New
York
First Appearance: (Possible) Men's
Adventures#26/4 (March, 1954);
(confirmed) Marvel Universe#4
(September, 1998)
Powers/Abilities: Stanley Hathaway was experienced with the fantastic adventures of the various members of the Explorers' Club, including the exceptionally unconventional adventures of the Monster Hunters. He had extensive knowledge of the giant monsters active on Earth.
Prior to his relationship with the Monster Hunters, he was highly skeptical of accounts of hidden societies or locations.
Although slight of build, he was strong and fit presumably into his 60's, such that he could physically throw the stocky Harvey Elder several feet.
Lacking his left eye, he is somewhat limited in peripheral vision and depth perception.
Height: Unrevealed (he's not that much shorter than
the 6'5" Dr. Druid, so perhaps 6' or 6'1")
Weight: Unrevealed (perhaps 150 lbs.; he seemed to be very lean)
Eyes: Unrevealed (his right eye was never shown clearly; his left
eye was covered in a patch, presumably indicating it was either blind or
absent)
Hair: White (likely darker in youth)
History:
Comments: Created by Roger Stern, Bret Blevins, and Mike Manley.
When I hear someone say, "Bloody" as an expletive, I think it is likely that they are English...but certainly plenty of Americans pick up such terms, so I don't think we can confirm Stanley as English.
Marvel Monsters: From the Files of
Ulysses Bloodstone and the Monster Hunters#1 has Elsa Bloodstone type it
out as "Explorer's Club" (singular possessive; no location qualifier).
Probably a typo...kids, today...
Anyway, Explorers' Club (plural
possessive) seems to be the most prevalent and logical name...you can
see the Explorers' Club profile's comments for the discussion.
