History:
(Longshot I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Hester had a baby girl with a man that she
loved and later lost (under unrevealed circumstances) and she grew to
love her child with her whole heart, feeling it was all she had left of
her love. Living in an apartment as a single mother with her baby and
her dog Scotty, Hester was attacked by Gog and Magog from Mojoworld,
who killed the dog and kidnapped the child. They cruelly left behind a
plastic doll for Hester to keep. Hester went to the newspapers with her
story.
(Longshot I#1) - Hester was crying in her apartment when Longshot showed up, with his ally Eliot, and offered to help her find the baby. After taking a psychic reading off the doll, Longshot got a sense of Hester's love for her daughter and commented on it. Longshot led Eliot and Hester to a nearby mill, where they found Gog and Magog planning to sacrifice Hester's baby in order to complete a ritual and open a portal back to the Mojoverse where they came from, forcing Spiral to work on the spell-casting. Longshot was initially thrown to the side by the monsters, but Hester informed him that she believed he was a miracle worker. Drawing upon that hope, Longshot rescued the baby and Hester sobbed as she got her child back. As Longshot departed, Hester invited him to return to see her baby some time.

Hester seems to be named after the main character in The Scarlet Letter, and the book is even referenced by Eliot when he talks about Hester in this issue.
