History:
(Visionaries#6 (fb) - BTS) - When the Age of Magic
washed across Prysmos and disabled advanced technology, a mystical gem
that came to be known as the Crystal of Flight empowered high-climbing
locals to use manufactured wings to glide on air currents. Dubbing
themselves High-Flyers, they became arrogant. However, Merklyn the
magician required their Crystal as part of a set to help save Prysmos
and sent teams of nefarious Darkling Lords and heroic Spectral Knights
to retrieve it.
(Visionaries#6)
- Spectral Knights Arzon and Feryl
investigated the remote lowlands while Darklings Cindarr and Virulina
tried to crush them. Arzon transformed into
his eagle persona (the only one of the four Merklyn's agents there
with a flying persona) to investigate the mountainous spire, but he was
netted by High-Flyer hunters. Knocked unconscious, Arzon resumed human
form and was taken to their leader Icara. She introduced him to the
colony while he told her of the quest and warned her of the Darklings.
She arrogantly dismissed it but the High-Flyer colony was soon
afflicted with a lethal disease unleashed by Virulina so that the
Darklings could easily take the Crystal. Arzon used his power staff of
knowledge to reveal the cause and cure. Although sorely afflicted,
Icara accompanied Arzon to gather healing blossoms, which she then
carried aloft and scattered amongst her people. The blossoms quickly
healed all the High-Flyers. In thanks for the Spectral Knights' aid,
Icara passed the Crystal to Arzon and asked that it be returned if
possible. In the meantime, her people would learn to be human again.
Comments: Created by Gerry Conway, Mark Bagley, Romeo Tanghal.
The Visionaries' self-contained adventures all take
place on the planet Prysmos and so can quite feasibly be considered
Reality-616.
Marvel's comic is based on the Visionaries: Knights
of the Magical
Light animated television series from Sunbow Productions (1987)
and the accompanying line of action figures from Hasbro. Unfortunately
the comic stopped with issue #6 in the middle of a story arc.

CLARIFICATIONS
:
Icara has no known connections to:
The High-Flyers used fabricated wings to fly far
above the ground and lived in "nests" as homes, built of metal and
other materials on a remote tall mountainous spire. But their wings
were not
truly aerodynamically stable and relied on the mystical Crystal of
Flight that empowered the colony to glide using their manufactured
wings. They would use hunting nets to catch passing flying prey for
food.
Generally, they wore light brassy armor, and were lightweight and
athletically fit to use their wings. They had an air of superiority,
thinking themselves literally above those in the valleys and plains
below. Like birds, they also collected treasure and stashed it in a separate nest.
The High-Flyers were impacted when
Merklyn the magician required their Crystal to help save Prysmos
and sent nefarious Darkling Lords and heroic Spectral Knights to
retrieve it. The Darkling Virulina unleashed a deadly disease on the
High-Flyers that nearly killed them all, but the intervention of
Spectral Knight Arzon found blossoms that aided a quick recovery. In
thanks, the High-Flyers' leader Icara passed the Crystal to Arzon but
asked for its eventual return, stating that they also had to be humans
on
the ground once more.
