History:

(Power Man and Iron Fist I#112 (fb) - BTS) - Ned Jackson was a childhood friend of Luke Cage, but they lost contact.

Jackson progressed into NFL football, becoming a prominent player, settling with the Chicago Wolves team and he had a strong fan base with a "tough guy" image. His popularity made him a good candidate for product endorsement on television adverts. However, advancing age and weight gain affected his performance in recent games.

Many people were excited for his team's upcoming home-turf game against the Gas House Gorillas in Chicago.

(Power Man and Iron Fist I#112) - Young child Sally McRae, being pursued by several government organizations for her possession of her mother's Pentagon security-compromising information, was keen to attend the Chicago game. However, Cage had been coerced by a covert government organization to stop Sally.

(Power Man and Iron Fist I#112 (fb) - BTS) - Jackson made a mistake in the game, fumbling the ball in the last seconds, causing the Wolves to miss the finals. Fans were disappointed and questioned his ability to play.

(Power Man and Iron Fist I#112) - In the empty back player corridors of the stadium, Jackson was heavily berated by his coach, but he was shoved into a laundry bin. Jackson then encountered Sally and Cage; Sally was awestruck and confessed she hoped to be a football player like him one day. Where Cage had earlier dismissed Sally's dream to play a sport deemed only for men, Jackson instead encouraged her. Heartened by Sally's enthusiasm, Jackson took them out to dinner at a pizza diner.
