History:
(ALF#20/1 (fb) - BTS) - Kitchen Witch ruled the land of Tydye in the days of ancient Melmac. She sought to expand her territory and had border disputes with Princess Rhondar-ling, ruler of neighboring Vitriol. Kitchen Witch captured the princess and had her bound to be devoured by the bestial Hydra-Foil.
(ALF#20/1 (fb)) -
Rhondar-ling was freed by Gornan the Bar-B-Q-Barian, who also sought
the sacred Cookbook of Julia Child, a tome held by Kitchen Witch. The
duo journeyed to Kitchen Witch's castle, overcoming many traps until
they confronted the hag in her throne room. Kitchen Witch's magic
affected only females, so she quickly eliminated Rhondar-ling by
turning her to stone and then dropped Gornan into a crocodile trap.
Clutching the sacred cookbook, Kitchen Witch disappeared with
Rhondar-ling and her castle before Gornan could recover, leaving Gornan
wondering if it had all been a dream.
(ALF Special#2/3 (fb) -
BTS) - Kitchen Witch hung her enchanted curtain so that she could cross
through the literal fabric of time and ended up vast years in the
future in the near-modern era (still on Melmac). Kitchen Witch took the
petrified Rhondar-ling, using it as a decorative garden statue.
Kitchen Witch disguised herself, taking on the persona of a rich widow
Dumelmont, seeking to swindle a local rich man into marriage. She hired
brothers Chippo and Burpo Melmarx as security guards.
(ALF Special#2/3 (fb)) - A sage's advice guided Gornan to Kitchen Witch's new location in the future, but he landed in the office of wacky mayor Oucho Melmarx. Thinking Gornan to be his newly hired bodyguard, Oucho took him along to Dumelmont, whom Oucho foolishly sought to woo for her money.
Gornan deduced that Dumelmont was Kitchen Witch and confronted her in her statuette garden. Gornan forced Kitchen Witch to reveal her true form and then had her transform Rhondar-ling back to her Melmacian form. Rhondar-ling embraced Gornan, and Kitchen Witch escaped in a cloud of green smoke while Gornan was distracted.
(ALF#50/3) - Gornan and Kitchen Witch had their final encounter.
Comments: Created by Michael Gallagher, Dave Manak, Marie Severin.
The wrap-up story in the final issue (ALF#50/3)
summarized stories intended to be published. Apparently the
(unpublished) Spring Special#2 was to have had the final encounter
between
Gornan and the Kitchen Witch to close the trilogy. Given it's suggested
that Gornan escaped Melmac's destruction via a time portal, it seems
likely that Kitchen Witch did too for there to be a final confrontation
between the two.
The puns fly thick and
fast in Marvel's ALF comic stories, so I won't explain everything in
the Acetonia map, etc! (You can compare the map of
Kitchen Witch's original time to maps of Conan's
Hyboria). The map in her second appearances spells her nation as
Tydey instead of Tydye; maybe the mapmaker didn't have spellcheck on.
Further details on the Melmacian alien species (according to the ALF television show) can be found on a Melmac fansite. No problem!
