History:
(Superhelden Agenda '89-'90)
- Ma Yonaise was a Belgian superhero.
(Marvel Atlas#1, Belgium entry) - The appearance of a
crime-fighting Spider-Man imitator (Hans Jansen) in the neighboring
Netherlands briefly inspired a craze of (mostly - see comments)
non-powered costumed wannabes in Belgium, including Ma Yonaise, Zak Patat, Frietje Piet, Atomiumman, and
Manneke Pis; luckily all apparently swiftly retired before any of them
were seriously injured.
Comments: Created by Steven De Rie.
Ma Yonaise was a tongue-in-cheek Belgian hero
created as part of a series of one-panel characters in the Dutch diary
Superhelden Agenda '89-'90. Though deliberately silly, she's no more
ludicrous than, say, Phone Ranger, and like him she has since been
confirmed to be a genuine individual on Earth-616, in her case in
Belgian's Marvel Atlas entry. Appearing in only a single panel, she's
mostly a blank slate. Described as being a Belgian hero, she's
presumably either of Belgian nationality or based in Belgium, but it may
be that only one of those holds true.
Though the Atlas text states that the
costumed heroes inspired by Hans
Jansen were non-powered, Ma Yonaise's illustration
suggests she possesses actual powers, though there's no clues as to how
she might have gained them.
Since she appears to be somewhat liquid, her
height may well be fluid (no pun intended). Her hair color is unrevealed
as she only appeared in black and white, and indeed she might just have
a blob of fluid atop her head rather than actual hair. If she does have
hair, it's likely whitish, the color of mayonnaise.
Manneke Pis may be associated with Ma
Yonaise, as his accompanying text says "and to clean up Ma's mess."
