MISH-MASH
of Reality-45828
Real Name: Mish-Mash
Identity/Class: Extradimensional
(Reality-45828/Razorline)
extraterrestrial mutant(?) (Weirdling) (see comments)
Occupation: Fugitive
Group Membership: None
Affiliations: Bull-Baby, Kento Canto, Saint
Sinner (Philip Fetter), Tentacle (loose) (all Reality-45828)
Enemies: Smiths (Bladesmith, Clocksmith,
Unlockingsmith, Runesmith, Soulsmith), presumably other
Eternites (all Reality-45828)
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Vertesque pocket dimension;
formerly the Amen prison in the Smiths' pocket dimension
formerly her people's own pocket dimension (all Reality-45828)
First Appearance: Saint Sinner#1 (October,
1993)
Powers/Abilities: Mish-Mash is different to
others of her humanoid species from her pocket dimension in that she
can take small pieces of organic matter from other beings and absorb
them into
herself, from human tears to small rodents, etc. She is composed almost
entirely of
this matter and can transform this matter (including dead matter) into
new life; she can even convert it
en masse into the size of a
small asteroid (with aid from another being
to birth it). She feels particularly strengthened on Earth with its
teeming life. Presumably, what she absorbs and expels via
transformation can affect her weight. She demonstrates no fighting
capacity, preferring to flee and hide.
Height: 5'3"
(by approximation)
Weight: Unrevealed
Eyes: Black
Hair: Brown (mostly)
History:
(Saint Sinner#1 (fb) - BTS) - Different to her fellow
species and considered a Weirdling, Mish-Mash had harvested small
pieces of organic matter into herself from many hundreds of worlds.
Banished, she was captured by the
demonic Eternites called the Smiths and put in the Amen prison in their
pocket dimension alongside dimension-portal summoner Kento Canto, bound
by mystical rings, Bull-Baby
and the dangerous Tentacle.
(Saint Sinner#1) - Philip Fetter (Saint Sinner)
became newly and partly possessed by the angel Regina and the Eternite
Runesmith, then imprisoned and manacled by Runesmith in the Amen. Upon
waking, he met the other three; Mish-Mash took one his tears and
incorporated it in her torso, growing a flower. Encouraged by Canto,
Saint Sinner used his transformative powers to break free of his bonds,
then freed the others. Saint Sinner broke out of the Amen, leading the
others into the Smiths' realm and found the remnants of a past gate.
Reactivating it, they fled to Earth, but Tentacle was cleaved in two
when the portal had to be shut quickly. Hiding in pipes, they were
found by police investigating a corpse.
(Saint Sinner#2) - With a police officer knocked
unconscious, they hid in the sewer. Mish-Mash absorbed a rat while it
was decided that Saint Sinner find a safe place for them. Contemplating
their predicament and seeking escape despite Saint Sinner's absence,
Canto dangerously gambled on opening a brief portal to a dormant
dimension, where Mish-Mash took from within her the seeds of millions
of life-forms from hundreds of worlds, seeding a womb that was
activated by Bull-Baby's life-force. The three became a trinity that
birthed a living dimension called the Vertesque.
(Saint Sinner#6) - Later, seeing Saint Sinner on
Earth in strife impacted by a Tempus Magus (Time Imp), Mish-Mash
implored Canto and Bull-Baby reach through and save him, but Saint
Sinner resolved to stay and save people.
(Saint Sinner#7) - Canto and Bull-Baby helped Saint
Sinner restore order while Mish-Mash watched from the Vertesque.
Comments:
Created by Clive Barker, Elaine Lee, Max Douglas.
Mish-Mash calls herself a Weirdling; she looks different to others of her species (and presumably has different/enhanced powers). Does this make her a mutant? Not sure.
Saint Sinner was a heavy-going title, certainly the most challenging and it needed all your attention out of all the Razorline titles. It was more like something from DC's 1990s Vertigo range.
Clive Barker created the Razorline universe and the main characters, Saint Sinner in this instance. He apparently was fairly hands-off with author storylines, looking over them. In Razorline: The First Cut (1993), he introduces this character as "Mishmash" but she's hyphenated in the comic stories.
