NAUTILUS
Official Name: Nautilus
Nature: Extraterrestrial planet, unidentified star system, Milky Way galaxy (see comments)
Environment: Life-sustaining biosphere; largely, if not completely, covered with water
Gravity: Unrevealed (but presumably possessed a gravitational field in which it was comfortable for humans to function)
Atmosphere: An unspecified combination of gases (mostly nitrogen and oxygen) as it was breathed without support by Brell (Gun Runner), who breathed comfortably in Earth's atmosphere
Natural Satellites: Possibly one moon +/- a number of asteroids
Artificial Satellites: None none
Natives: Cetaceans (and presumably various other forms of aquatic life)
Population: Unrevealed (unless specifically noted, we don't know, but estimate if possible)
Capital City: Example: Inapplicable. Each nation had its own capital.
Government: None noted; there were presumably schools of fish, pods of cetaceans, etc.
Languages: Unrevealed;
Cetaceans commonly use sound (moans, whistles, clicks) to communicate with each other
Monetary Unit: None known
National Defense: None known
Major Resources: Large amount of salt water; apparently calm, peaceful living
Planetary Defense: None known
Places of Interest: Formerly the Scylax, ship of Glora Teth
Prominent Residents: Formerly Glora Teth (aka Heavy Duty)
Visitors: Gun Runner/Brell, Gale Patrec, Smith, the Zoo (Ballistik, Blitz, Laz-Fire, Payload, Warcrime)
First Appearance: Gun Runner#3 (December, 1993)
History:
(Gun Runner#3 (fb) - BTS) - Nautilus is a
waterworld "nine sidereal years from Canopus" (see comments).
(Gun Runner#3 (fb) - BTS) - Settling on the planet Nautilus, a waterworld nine sidereal years from Canopus, Glora Teth abandoned her previous warrior identity of Heavy Duty and enjoyed a solitary lifestyle from her clipper, Scylax.
(Gun Runner#3 (fb) - BTS) - Every dawn for two hundred years, Glora heard the
ultrasound of the ocean's dawn chorus, and she leapt into the waters to appreciate the sonar song of the great calm cetaceans in her ears and
sternum as it echoed through the seas.
Comments: Created by Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning, Anthony Williams, and Jeff Anderson as part of the Marvel UK imprint.
Canopus is the brightest star in the southern constellation of Carina,
and it is the second brightest star in the night sky. It is 310 light
years from Earth.
Recent estimates note that the Milky Way galaxy is 100,000 -
120,000 light years across, and that Earth is 28,500 light years from
the center of the Milky Way.
However, as best as I can determine, a sidereal year is a unit of time,
referring to the length of time a planet takes to orbit its star.
So, I'm not sure what they mean by Nautilus being nine sidereal years
from Canopus, unless they are using sidereal years to reference a
"light year" in terms of what the length of a year would be on
Nautilus, as opposed to Earth. The distant light would travel in a year
certainly depends on what length of year one is referencing.
What exactly does the referenced "nine sidereal years from Canopus"
mean? I have no idea, but the fact that they referenced Canopus would
seem to mean that it was one of the most, if not the most significant
nearby star...which would mean Nautilus was well within the Milky Way
galaxy.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Nautilus has no known connections to
Whale-like
marine mammals who apparently use echolocation (emitting sound
into the environment and listening to the returning echoes to identify
surrounding objects). The ones observed have paired pectoral fins to aid in navigation along with a large tailfin for propulsion. (Gun Runner#3 (fb) - BTS) - Every dawn for two hundred years, Glora Teth -- one of the Vassyran Enhanced who had traveled to Nautilus to escape her previous life of violence -- heard the ultrasound of the ocean's dawn chorus, and she leapt into the waters to appreciate the sonar song of the great calm cetaceans in her ears and sternum as it echoed through the seas. (Gun Runner#3) - In recent years, from the deck of her ship/home, the Scylax, Glora heard the ultrasound of the ocean's dawn chorus, and she leapt into the water, feeling the sonar song of the great calm cetaceans in her ears and sternum as it echoed through the seas. Hearing a new and questioning theme, Glora returned to the Scylax, where she encountered former allies and then enemies. (Gun Runner#4) - Re-adopting her Heavy Duty identity, Glora helped fight off the Zoo, but with the Scylax in flames, she was forced to resume her fight against her ancient enemies. Before departing, Glora set a sonar beacon to drive the cetaceans in the area away so they would not be hurt, and then she set the Scylax's power cells to explode. After leaving in Gun Runner's Warbird, Glora said a tearful goodbye, telling both the Scylax and the world of Nautilus that she would miss them forever, and then Scylax exploded. --Gun Runner#3 Note: On Earth, Cetaceans also include dolphins, but only whales were seen in the brief appearance of Nautilus.
