History:
(Spirits of Vengeance I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Ragnar the Dark Dwarf was a
Nidavellirian blacksmith who turned towards evil.
(Spirits of Vengeance I#2 (fb) - BTS) - Ragnar was visited by Razan the Night Jackal, an agent of the sorcerer Necrodamus, and presented with specifications for a weapon to be forged from Necrodamus' enchanted silver pieces.
(Spirits of Vengeance I#2) - Necrodamus himself
visited Ragnar at the Popocatepetel volcano in Mexico to make sure he
had received the weapon specifications. Ragnar assured Necrodamus that
he had received them from Razan but explained that he wasn't working
with a normal metal. Ragnar further explained that he would need all of
the enchanted silver in order to properly forge the weapon for
Necrodamus and Necrodamus assured Ragnar he would have the silver soon.
As he bent the silver he had in the fires of the volcano, Ragnar
announced that he was the only dwarf willing to achieve the forbidden
for Necrodamus and assured Necrodamus that, once he had all of the
silver, he would forge Necrodamus a weapon capable of shaking the world
to its foundations.
(Spirits of Vengeance I#3) - Necrodamus again visited Ragnar at the Popcatepetl volcano and expressed worry that the deadline to have the weapon ready was upon then and Ragnar was still hammering away at his forge. When asked why he himself wasn't worried, Ragnar explained that he was happy in his toil, bending the essence of evil itself to his will. Necrodamus subsequently asked if the weapon would be strong enough and Ragnar informed Necrodamus that the weapon was still incomplete without the thirtieth piece of enchanted silver. Necrodamus remarked that surely one piece would not make a difference but Ragnar warned that a small thing like a missing spark plug is enough to keep an automobile from working. Ragnar then warned Necrodamus not to give any more excuses or half measures, explaining that if Necrodamus wanted his weapon, he would have to bring the thirtieth silver pieces to Ragnar. Later, after Razan recovered the missing silver piece, Necrodamus and Razan presented it to Ragnar and an impatient Necrodamus almost immediately asked Ragnar if the weapon was ready. Ragnar replied that it was now complete and cooling. He then asked Necrodamus to take a look at the weapon, which Necrodamus dubbed the Archangel Killer.
(Spirits of Vengeance I#4) - While explaining Necrodamus'
involvement in recovering the enchanted silver, the woman who had
originally assisted Razan in acquiring the silver revealed that Ragnar
was the only one with the skill and motivation to forge the silver.
After learning that only Ragnar could forge the enchanted silver,
Daimon Hellstrom, his sister Satana, vampire hunter Blade and Johnny
Blaze, the Ghost Rider, visited Ragnar at the Popcatepetl volcano.
Ragnar greeted them and thought perhaps Daimon Hellstrom had use of his
skills and Daimon hinted that he might...if Ragnar had the skills.
Daimon then admitted he had heard about Ragnar's recent project and
asked if the materials had been tricky to work with, suggesting a flaw
could make the work worthless. Claiming he needed reassurances before
bringing Ragnar any of his own projects, Hellstrom attempted to learn
any weaknesses in Ragnar's newly forged weapon but Ragnar saw through
Daimon's ruse and swung at Daimon, who dodged, causing the attack to
hit Blade. Following a very brief fight, Ragnar was bound in Ghost
Rider's chains but refused to make his greatest achievement be undone
by his revealing of where Necrodamus was and how he planned to use the
Archangel Killer. Daimon then asked where and/or the covenant between
Heaven and Hell was to take place and Ragnar admitted the covenant was
to take place the next night. He also gave the antiheroes the vague
hint that the covenant would occur where the first angel died.
Comments: Created by Victor Gischler and David Baldeon.
Ragnar refers to his brother
dwarves but he could be just referring to the other Nidavellir dwarves
as his figurative "brothers" and not actual relatives. Without more
information, however, we really don't know for sure...
