MARK TWELVE SONIC DEPRESSOR
Classification: Terrestrial technology
Creator: The Leader (Samuel Sterns)
User/Possessors: Project: Greenskin, the Leader's robot double of General Thaddeus Ross
First Appearance: Incredible Hulk II#147 (January, 1972)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Mark Twelve Sonic Depressor emits extremely powerful waves of sonic energy. The sonic energy it emits is so powerful that it must be safely monitored from a bunker.
History: (Incredible Hulk II#147 (fb) - BTS) - The sitting US President and Vice-President came to tour Project: Greenskin, unaware that the facility had been largely overrun by androids under the control of the Leader. Having recently boarded a plan from Tel Aviv, the Hulk was redirected to the Project: Greenskin base, where the Leader had supplied his androids with the Mark Twelve Sonic Depressor to use against the Hulk when he arrived.
(Incredible Hulk II#147) - The android double of General Ross demonstrated the Mark Twelve Sonic Depressor to the President and Vice-President, claiming this was one of the weapons belonging to Project: Greenskin and informing them that this weapon would be unleashed on the Hulk when he arrived, granting the two politicians the privilege of seeing the Hulk defeated. As the Hulk arrived, the android of Ross retired to a bunker to oversee the Sonic Depressor's functions (and to secretly communicate with the Leader). The Hulk was disoriented and harmed by the powerful sonic energy but he soon found the bunker where the Ross android was hiding. Smashing into the bunker, the Hulk attacked "Ross" and destroyed the android. The Sonic Depressor was shut down.
Comments: Created by Gerry Conway, Herb Trimpe and John Severin.
The story depicted the US President and Vice-President as Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew but as is typical for such appearances, they should be considered topical references due to the sliding timeline.
The Ross android also referred to it colloquially as a "sonic gun."
