Base of Operations: Forest Hills, Queens, New
York, USA
First Appearance: Spider-Man Adventures I#1
(December, 1994)
Powers/Abilities: Spider-Man possessed superhuman strength sufficient enough to at least lift tons of collapsed rubble and superhuman agility and reflexes, allowing him to perform complex gymnastic maneuvers in mid-air. He also possessed a danger-warning "Spider-Sense."
Spider-Man also utilized technology such as mechanical, wrist-worn web-shooter devices capable of projecting chemical webbing that dissolved in one hour and could be converted to liquid form to douse fires. In addition, he also used Spider-Tracers, small devices that could stick to objects or people that he could later track using a small, handheld GPS-like device.
While briefly bonded to an alien symbiote,
Spider-Man's superhuman physical attributes were even more enhanced,
allowing him to toss around automobiles with ease and perform multiple
aerial gymnastic maneuvers within seconds. The symbiote could also
alter its appearance to resemble other forms of clothing and while
wearing the symbiote, Spider-Man no longer had need of his
web-shooters, as the symbiote could project portions of itself as a
substitute for Spider-Man's chemical webbing.

History: (Spider-Man
Adventures I#5 (fb)) -
Peter Parker was always told by his Uncle Ben that with great power
came great responsibility.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#10 (fb) - BTS) - One time
at the beach, Peter's Aunt May warned him against swimming alone.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#14/2 (fb)) - While attending Midtown High School, young Peter Parker was picked on and given the insulting nickname of "Midtown High's Only Professional Wallflower." Despite being bullied at school, Peter was adored at home by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May and Peter developed a real passion for science.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#6 (fb) - BTS) - Peter Parker met the egotistical Johnny Storm when Storm dated Dorrie Evans, a girl who went to Midtown High with Peter.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#5 (fb)/Spider-Man Adventures I#14/2 (fb)) - As a teenager, Peter Parker was bitten by radioactive spider and granted superhuman powers such as strength, agility and keen senses. Deciding to cash in on his newfound powers, Peter took on the costumed identity of Spider-Man to appear on television. After the show, Spider-Man's popularity went to his head and he allowed a thief to escape. One night later, Peter returned home to learn that his Uncle Ben had been murdered, prompting Peter to don his Spider-Man costume and apprehend the murderer. When he caught the man, Spider-Man realized it was the same thief he had earlier let escape, learning the hard truth in his Uncle Ben's words about responsibility.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Hating Spider-Man since the day he first appeared in New York City, the Daily Bugle's J. Jonah Jameson was an outspoken opponent of Spider-Man, often writing editorials calling for an end to Spider-Man.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#10 (fb) - BTS) - At some
point in his superheroic career, Spider-Man approached and attempted to
join the Fantastic Four, only to quickly depart when he learned they
did not pay.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Doded over by Ben's widow May, Peter Parker became an Empire State University student and freelance photographer for the Daily Bugle while moonlighting as the heroic Spider-Man. One of the classes Peter attended at ESU was taught by Dr. Curt Connors and his good grades earned Peter a spot working directly with Connors on Connors' experiment with recombinant DNA.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#3 (fb) - BTS) - At one
point, Spider-Man teamed up with the
Fantastic Four and Avengers superhero teams in an intergalactic war.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#1 (fb)) - During an
experiment involving ESU's Neogenic Recombinator, Peter witnessed
Dr. Curt Connors regrow a three-legged mouse's missing leg using the
Recombinator.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#1/Spider-Man Adventures I#15 (fb)) - Spider-Man was swinging through New York City on weblines when he came across some thugs hassling the owner of Emilio's Resterante. Easily defeating and webbing up the thugs, Spider-Man suggested the owner phone the police as he swung off towards the East Side, soon witnessing a van careening and weaving through traffic. Leaping onto the van, Spider-Man looked inside to find panicked maintenance workers Ray and John ranting about a red-eyed monster and, realizing the van was about to sideswipe a lamppost and smash him, Spider-Man jumped off the van and slowed the van's progress with a few timely weblines. He then removed the van's keys and found Ray and John unconscious inside before swinging off, wondering what Ray and John had been drinking.
The next day, Peter Parker visited the Daily Bugle in an attempt to sell some of his photographs of himself in action as Spider-Man to the Bugle's J. Jonah Jameson and Joe Robertson. When Robertson asked Peter if he'd like to try to get some photos of the Lizard, a confused Peter learned that a lizard-like creature had terrified two subway workers the night before and Peter deduced the workers to be Ray and John, whom he had saved as Spider-Man. Jameson then chimed in, claiming Peter would know the whole story if he had been there on time, and explained that he had assigned writer Eddie Brock to the Lizard story. When Brock entered the room with a list of scientists with experience in reptile research and mentioned Dr. Curt Connors at ESU, Parker remarked on Connors being a professor of his, prompting Jameson to make Peter the Daily Bugle's contact with Connors. Jameson then offered Peter a thousand dollars if he could get a good shot of the Lizard. The discussion was then interrupted by Peter's aunt May, who had called to remind Peter of his study date with Deb Whitman that night.
Later that evening, Peter visited the ESU campus and decided to stop by Dr. Connors' office before heading to the library to meet Deb when Deb showed up early. Deb subsequently invited herself to join Peter in checking Dr. Connors' office and the two noticed Connors' office light on. Peter's danger-warning Spider-Sense immediately went off and he warned Deb not to open the office door but Deb nonetheless barged in, worried for Dr. Connors' safety. The Lizard was in the office and he grabbed Deb, prompting Peter to fight back and eventually, Deb hit the Lizard with a chemical vial that forced the Lizard to flee just as a security guard arrived. Using the guard as a distraction for Deb, Peter slipped away and changed into his Spider-Man costume to investigate Dr. Connors' home. Noticed by Dr. Connors' son Billy, Spider-Man was invited inside and Dr. Connors' wife Margaret informed Spider-Man that the Lizard was actually Dr. Connors, who had tested the Neogenic Recombinator on himself in an attempt to regrow his own missing arm. Promising he would help Dr. Connors, Spider-Man soon sensed danger and briefly saw a snooping Eddie Brock in a nearby window before the Lizard attacked. When the Lizard grabbed Mrs. Connors and Billy and fled into the sewers, Spider-Man pursued while Brock was left explaining the situation to the arriving police. Spider-Man soon tracked Lizard, who was planning to transform his family into lizard-like beings, and battled the creature, temporarily distracting him when he held up a photo of Dr. Connors and his family. Finding the Neogenic Recombinator within the Lizard's bag, Spider-Man prepared to use it to restore Connors but the Lizard pulled Spider-Man into the sewer water, where an explosion of energy soon erupted. Spider-Man soon emerged to catch his breath and pulled a restored Connors from the depths. Helping the family back to their home, Spider-Man watched from the trees as Connors claimed the police call was a false alarm and an angry J. Jonah Jameson retrieved Brock. He soon realized that he had left Deb Whitman back at ESU, also trying to explain the Lizard's attack there to the police.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#2
(fb) - BTS) - Peter Parker
began tutoring fellow Empire State University student Felicia Hardy in
science and the two began studying together.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#2) - Watching from a building, Spider-Man noticed a couple of parked cars on a deserted street and suggested to the nearby stone gargoyles that he investigate. Web-swinging down to the storefront of J & B Jewelry, Spider-Man did not notice anything unusual until an explosion rocked the jewelry store and four armed men rushed inside. Quickly taking out the gunmen, Spider-Man webbed them up and took photos of them for the Daily Bugle before departing, unaware that J. Jonah Jameson was on the campus of Empire State University trying to elicit Dr. Curt Connors and Professor Stillwell to use their Neogenic technology against Spider-Man.
Later that evening, Peter Parker was walking in Manhattan's Lower East Side with Felicia Hardy, attempting to get her to commit to a date. The two eventually made their way back to Felicia's apartment, where Peter's Spider-Sense warned him of looming danger. Looking around, Peter noticed a man following them and rushed off, drawing the man away from Felicia, who was annoyed at Peter's sudden departure. Unfortunately, Peter ended up losing the man in the nearby crowd and realized he had probably blown his chances with Felicia by rushing off. The next day, Peter visited the Daily Bugle and impressed Joe Robertson with his photos of the failed jewelry heist but his visit was interrupted by J. Jonah Jameson, who demanded to know how Peter always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Jameson exclaimed that he had his eye on Peter, ultimately prompting Peter to leave due to his grouchy demeanor. As he left, Peter noticed in the hallway the man who had been following him the night before and, suspecting Jameson's involvement, Peter changed into his Spider-Man costume to investigate. Seeing Jameson talking to the man, revealing as private investigator Gargan, Spider-Man leaped into Jameson's office window and threatened Jameson, telling him to keep photographer Peter Parker off his back in an effort to convince Jameson that Peter and Spider-Man were not allied. Webbing Gargan's mouth, Spider-Man then swung back out the window, leaving Jameson to stew and swear payback.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#2/Spider-Man Adventures I#7
(fb)) - Having forgotten about his lunch plans with his Aunt
May, Peter later phoned May to cancel despite May's insistence that her
friend Anna Watson's niece Mary Jane had come to meet Peter. He then
offered to take May out to eat that night but became distracted when he
saw Jameson and Gargan leaving the Bugle. After Jameson had ESU's
Professor Stillwell transform Gargan into the Scorpion using ESU's
Neogenics lab, Spider-Man was swinging through the city thinking about
how meeting Mary Jane Watson would likely be a waste of time when his
Spider-Sense went off. Knocked to the ground, Spider-Man came to his
senses to see the transformed Gargan as the Scorpion. A fight between
the Scorpion and Spider-Man then ensued and Scorpion swiftly defeated
Spider-Man and prepared to unmask Spider-Man on J. Jonah Jameson's
orders. Before he could do so, however, the Scorpion doubled over in
pain and fled the scene, soon rampaging through the city. Returning to
his offices, Jameson saw news footage of the Scorpion's rampage and,
realizing what he had unleashed, admitted to Joe Robertson that he had
helped create the Scorpion in a revenge scheme against Spider-Man. As
Jameson rushed out to stop his own creation, Spider-Man tracked the
Scorpion at the Oscorp Manufacturing Complex. Witnessing the Scorpion
demanding to use Oscorp's Nuclear Reactor to restore his humanity,
Spider-Man jumped into a battle with the Scorpion. The two fought until
J. Jonah Jameson arrived and began berating Scorpion, knowing of
Gargan's insecurities. Distracted by Jameson's insults, Scorpion turned
away from Spider-Man to attack Jameson but Spider-Man intervened,
taking a hit from Scorpion's tail in the process. Scorpion then wrapped
Spider-Man with his tail but Jameson tackled Scorpion, freeing
Spider-Man. Before Scorpion could kill Jameson, however, Spider-Man
pulled some loose electrical wires into the Scorpion's tail,
electrocuting the villain. Spider-Man then warned the surrounding
Oscorp employees that the nuclear reactor could still explode due to
the Scorpion's damage to it but Oscorp's Dr. Otto Octavius assured
Spider-Man he could handle the reactor. Once Octavius had averted a
nuclear disaster, Spider-Man commended him on his work and remarked
that Octavius was not a name he would easily forget. Subsequently
webbing up the Scorpion for the police, Spider-Man thanked Jameson for
his rescue but Jameson promised that he thought Spider-Man was a fraud
and that he would someday unmask the vigilante. Spider-Man then left,
remarking that the police might have some interesting questions for
Jameson as well as Scorpion.
Later, Peter was walking on the ESU campus when Felicia Hardy pulled up in her car and admitted she had earlier been a bit too hard on Peter. When Peter asked if they meant they could go on a date, Felicia told Peter not to be silly and declined his date offer before commenting that she would see him later. Peter then continued walking, thinking that at least things with Felicia had not soured and wondering what Jameson's next move would be.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#3 (fb) - BTS) - At some
point, Peter Parker became friends with Harry Osborn and lesser friends
with the sometimes-bullying "Flash" Thompson.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#3) - Late one evening, Spider-Man's Spider-Sense went off as he was on a New York City rooftop and he was soon surrounded by small flying machines. Avoiding the machines, Spider-Man destroyed one by webbing and swinging it into a billboard and as he soon managed to cause the other two to collide into one another, surprising a bystander and his dog, Princess. Unaware that the machines were Seekers created by Spencer Smythe under orders from Norman Osborn, who wished to capture Spider-Man, Spider-Man bantered with Princess' owner before investigating the Seekers' wreckage, noting that someone really had it out for him. The next day, Peter had his Aunt May help him get dressed in a tuxedo for a charity gala that evening and thanked her for the assistance. Aunt May assured him that some of his friends would be at the gala then reminded Peter that Mary Jane Watson would be coming over for dessert the following Thursday.
When Peter arrived at the gala that evening, Felicia
Hardy was impressed at how he dressed up but J. Jonah Jameson
interrupted and reminded Peter to get to work photographing the gala.
When Felicia asked Peter to dance, Peter agreed despite Jameson's
objections, reminding Jameson that the Hardys were the Daily Bugle's
biggest advertisers. Just as Peter felt Felicia was beginning to like
him, his Spider-Sense went off and "Spider-Man" (actually a disguised
"Flash" Thompson) appeared at the gala, demanding to speak with Peter.
As "Spider-Man" warned Peter to stop following him around taking
photos, Spencer Smythe's Black Widow Spider-Slayer appeared outside.
Realizing he couldn't risk attacking the Spider-Slayer as Peter Parker,
Peter watched the Black Widow capture "Flash" and attached a
Spider-Tracer to the robot as it flew away with "Flash." Suspecting
"Flash" to be the false Spider-Man, the real Spider-Man soon followed
the Spider-Tacer to Oscorp and burst in on Norman Osborn interrogating
"Flash." Confused at the two Spider-Men, Osborn nonetheless ordered
Spencer Smythe to destroy the real Spider-Man and Spencer activated the
Black Widow to attack. In the ensuing fight, Spider-Man managed to hit
the Black Widow with a steam pipe but the Black Widow stole the pipe
from and used it against Spider-Man. Spider-Man soon clogged the Black
Widow's flight jets with webbing and the Black Widow flew around
wildly, eventually causing an explosion that seemingly consumed Spencer
Smythe. Hoping Spencer made it out safely, Spider-Man rushed to rescue
"Flash" Thompson, who revealed himself and asked Spider-Man not to tell
his friends about his ruse. Spider-Man then got "Flash" out of Oscorp
moments before another explosion.
The next day, Eddie Brock attempted to sell a photo he had taken of "Flash" as Spider-Man being captured by the Black Widow Spider-Slayer but J. Jonah Jameson pointed out that Brock's photos were of a fake Spider-Man and fired Brock on the spot. Later that day, Spencer Smythe's son Alistair was met by the criminal Kingpin, who offered Alistair a chance for revenge on Spider-Man for his father's death.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#4)
- Later that day,
Alistair Smythe unleashed the Black Widow Spider-Slayer on Spider-Man,
determined to destroy Spider-Man for his father's death. During the
battle, Spider-Man turned a microwave relay dish against the
Spider-Slayer, jamming its control frequencies moments before another
Spider-Slayer, the Tarantula, arrived on the scene. As Spider-Man
battled the Tarantula, Alistair watched from the Chrysler Building and
reported the fight information to the Kingpin, who demanded Spider-Man
be destroyed. The Black Widow Spider-Slayer soon regained control of
its functions and renewed its attack, forcing Spider-Man to rescue a
mother and child in the Spider-Slayer's path by hitting the Black Widow
with a metal fire escape ladder. The Tarantula then joined the Black
Widow in its attack on Spider-Man and the hero was soon defeated and
captured by the two Spider-Slayers. He then was then taken to the
Chrysler Building, where Alistair Smythe admitted that Spider-Man was
to be killed in revenge. Spider-Man attempted to convince Smythe that
his father's death was an accident before J. Jonah Jameson arrived,
having been invited to personally unmask Spider-Man. Secretly wanting
revenge on Jameson as well, however, Alistair Smythe manacled a bomb to
both Jameson and Spider-Man in an attempt to eventually kill them both
at the same time. The Tarantula Spider-Slayer then carried Spider-Man
and Jameson to a nearby rooftop and departed, leaving the two to
briefly argue before Spider-Man got a read on the Spider-Tracer he had
placed on the Black Widow Spider-Slayer during their earlier battle.
Carrying Jameson with him due to the bomb attaching them, Spider-Man
swung off to keep the Black Widow from attacking Smythe's other
intended victims and along the way, Jameson admitted his resentment of
the admiration Spider-Man received and how he secretly wished the
public would look at him that way. Brushing off Jameson's statements,
Spider-Man soon tracked the Black Widow to the ESU campus, where it was
attacking Harry Osborn, "Flash" Thompson and Felicia Hardy. Quickly
using the Black Widow's blasters to break the manacle connecting the
bomb to Jameson and himself, Spider-Man then used a crane to destroy
the Black Widow and, realizing the bomb was still counting down,
Spider-Man rushed to find Eddie Brock, another of Smythe's intended
victims. Soon finding Brock at the offices of the Daily Herald,
Spider-Man rescued Brock from the Tarantula Spider-Slayer but Brock
demanded Spider-Man leave, feeling as if Spider-Man had framed him into
getting fired from the Bugle. Managing to trick the Tarantula into
attacking an electrical outlet, Spider-Man defeated the Tarantula and
swung off to check on Norman Osborn just as Brock was fired from his
new job at the Herald.
Arriving at Oscorp with sixteen minutes left before the manacled bomb's detonation, Spider-Man witnessed Smythe's new Scorpion Spider-Slayer attacking Oscorp's robotic helicopter defenses. Smythe's other Spider-Slayers soon arrived as well and the three combined into the Tri Spider-Slayer to attack Spider-Man. Left for dead in the rubble, Spider-Man quickly regained his senses and noticed a leak of liquid oxygen, which he used to shattered the manacles attaching the bomb to him. He then found the fleeing Norman Osborn and jumped onto the hood of his car as the Tri Spider-Slayer pursued Osborn. With nine seconds left before the bomb's detonation, Spider-Man webbed the bomb onto the Tri Spider-Slayer and it was destroyed in the subsequent explosion. Still wishing to know Osborn's connections to the Smythe family and the Spider-Slayers, Spider-Man remarked to Osborn that he would settle for a thank you but Osborn instead berated Spider-Man for being involved in two separate destructions of Oscorp facilities. Spider-Man then swung away and returned to his Forest Hills, Queens home, where Aunt May reminded him of his blind date with Mary Jane Watson. Attempting to feign sickness to get out of the date, Peter Parker was shocked at how attractive Mary Jane was.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#5 (fb) - BTS) - During a
film shoot atop the Brooklyn Bridge, one of the movie explosions
damaged a nearby helicopter, forcing Spider-Man to rescue to pilot. The
next day, Spider-Man investigated the scene and learned special effects
man Quentin Beck had planted an actual mortar in an attempt to make the
movie explosion look bigger. Tracking Beck down, Spider-Man apprehended
him and Beck swore revenge on Spider-Man.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#5) - Waking up early one
morning, Peter Parker received a call from Mary Jane Watson asking if
he'd like to catch a movie later in the week. Happily accepting, Peter
went downstairs to tell his Aunt May the good news but May interrupted,
pointing out a news story on how Spider-Man had stolen items from the
Museum of Natural History. As May exclaimed what a menace Spider-Man
was, Peter decided to leave in order to get to the bottom of the
impostor Spider-Man story. Arriving later in the day at the Museum,
Peter met with J. Jonah Jameson, who intended to expose Spider-Man as a
thief. When reporters focused on Jameson, Peter snuck out of the room
to investigate the theft on his own and soon found some webbing left by
the true culprit. His Spider-Sense quickly went off, however, when Det.
Terri Lee came into the room. Peter barely made it back to ground level
when Lee spotted him and accused him of trying to steal evidence. Peter
then tried to explain how Spider-Man's webbing dissolves in an hour
while the evidence webbing was still intact but the conversation was
interrupted when the two heard what sounded like a bomb going off in
another room. Running into the room to see a man calling himself
Mysterio announce his plans to bring Spider-Man to justice, Peter and
Terri Lee witnessed Mysterio hurl his fishbowl-like helmet at Jameson
and when Jameson dropped it, the ceiling seemed to collapse. Peter and
the rest of the crowd ducked for cover despite Peter's suspicions that
the collapse wasn't real. When the ceiling seemingly restored itself,
Peter confirmed that the collapse was an illusion when his Spider-Sense
didn't go off during the supposed collapse.
Later, when the impostor Spider-Man showed up at the Beltway Plaza Mall in Brooklyn, the real Spider-Man was there to confront him but as Spider-Man went to tackle the impostor, he passed right through him and through the window of a nearby clothing store. Mysterio then reappeared and challenged Spider-Man to a fight on the Brooklyn Bridge, accusing Spider-Man of having "ruined" him. Traveling to the Brooklyn Bridge, Spider-Man found bystanders cheering for Mysterio and when he engaged Mysterio in battle, Mysterio temporarily blinded Spider-Man with a flash of light and busted a portion of the Bridge. Thinking the breaking Bridge was another illusion, Spider-Man was knocked into the river. Upon returning home, a wet and bruised Spider-Man phoned Mary Jane Watson and claimed he had forgotten their date, prompting a hang up from Mary Jane. He then turned on the television to see a news story from J. Jonah Jameson proclaiming Mysterio a hero and he was at wit's end when the doorbell rang. Covering up his Spider-Man costume, Peter Parker answered the door and was met by Det. Lee, who admitted her suspicions that Spider-Man was being framed by Mysterio. When Lee asked Peter's help in finding something to prove Spider-Man's innocence, Peter commented that it was not his job to find Spider-Man and Lee reminded Peter that Spider-Man never gave up on someone who needed help. Recalling the lesson on responsibility he learned from his Uncle Ben's death, Peter agreed to help Det. Lee find Spider-Man. Subsequently visiting Det. Lee's 108th police precinct in Forest Hills as Spider-Man, Peter helped Lee look into recent events regarding the Brooklyn Bridge and saw video footage of his apprehension of Quentin Beck. Suspecting a connection between Beck and Mysterio, Spider-Man faxed J. Jonah Jameson so he could witness Spider-Man's defeat of Mysterio and then visited Beck's old Wonder Studios lot in Long Island. He discovered a stash of Spider-Man costumes and low budget technology meant to replicate Spider-Man's powers, as well as architectural plans for the Museum of Natural History and the Brooklyn Bridge. Accidentally activating holographic technology within the lot, Spider-Man deduced Beck's involvement as Mysterio and soon confronted who he thought was Mysterio, only to attack an illusion.
While Spider-Man fought Mysterio's illusions, Det. Lee and J. Jonah Jameson made their way inside Wonder Studios, only to be captured by Mysterio and used as hostages. Spider-Man quickly rescued Lee and Jameson but Mysterio surrounded Spider-Man with illusions of himself with a gun, preparing to kill Spider-Man. Trusting his Spider-Sense despite the illusions, Spider-Man managed to knock out the true Mysterio and expose him as Quentin Beck. The next day at ESU, Peter Parker read a Daily Bugle article in which Spider-Man was cleared of all charges as Mary Jane Watson walked up to him and apologized for not having been herself lately. She then asked if Peter wanted to walk her to class, apologizing for earlier hanging up on Peter as he apologized for forgetting their date. Once at her class, Mary Jane suggested they get coffee later.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#6 (fb) - BTS) - Peter Parker
arrived at the offices of Dr. Mariah Crawford for a job interview.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#6) - When Kraven the Hunter
arrived to take Dr. Mariah Crawford back to Africa,
Parker intervened as Spider-Man and was attacked by the jealous hunter.
Dr.
Crawford insisted she did not love Spider-Man, only the man Kraven once
was. Before Kraven could toss Spider-Man over the side of a building,
Spider-Man flipped and kicked Kraven to the ground. Spider-Man then
tried to web Kraven up but Kraven dodged the web and grabbed a radio
receiver in an attempt to swat Spider-Man aside. Spider-Man managed to
get the receiver away from Kraven but accidentally knocked Kraven over
the side of the building instead, only to watch Kraven seemingly
disappear rather than hit the ground. When Dr. Crawford insisted that
Kraven would return, Spider-Man assured Dr. Crawford that he would get
her to safety. As Spider-Man subsequently swung away with Dr. Crawford
in tow, Dr. Crawford related Kraven's origins to the web-slinger and
asked for Spider-Man's help in restoring Kraven to his normal self.
Spider-Man instead dropped Dr. Crawford off in the empty apartment of
the Daily Bugle's "Robbie" Robertson, who was away on vacation, and
later that night, Peter Parker used his aunt's ticket to attend to
"Animal in You" fashion show, where Mary Jane Watson was modeling. When
Felicia Hardy expressed delight that Peter was able to attend, Peter
thought to himself about whether to date Mary Jane Watson or Felicia
Hardy until the fashion show was interrupted by Kraven. Excusing
himself, much to the annoyance of Felicia Hardy, Peter changed into his
Spider-Man costume to confront Kraven, who wished to take their fight
outside onto the balcony. The two briefly fought until Kraven revealed
that he had taken "Robbie" Robertson hostage after tracking Dr.
Crawford to the returning "Robbie"'s apartment. Kraven then gave
Spider-Man six hours to bring Dr. Crawford to him or risk "Robbie"'s
life and departed, leaving Spider-Man to decide "Robbie"'s fate. At
first searching for Dr. Crawford, Spider-Man soon decided to just take
the fight directly to Kraven, whom he discovered at the Bronx Zoo.
Arriving in the African Natural Environment exhibit, Spider-Man was
besieged by Kraven's traps. Narrowly avoiding them all, Spider-Man
quickly located "Robbie" Robertson but was hit by an explosive capsule
while distracted.
Before Kraven could kill Spider-Man, however, Dr. Crawford appeared and accidentally triggered one of Kraven's traps. As Dr. Crawford fell into a lion pit, Spider-Man suggested he rescue "Robbie" while Kraven saved Dr. Crawford. Kraven was soon injured by the lion attacking Dr. Crawford and Spider-Man jumped down and held the lion at bay while Dr. Crawford administered an antidote she had concocted to restore Kraven. As Kraven's senses and health were restored, "Robbie" asked Spider-Man how he had become involved in the situation, prompting Spider-Man to remark that he wouldn't believe the explanation. Days later, Spider-Man watched from afar as Dr. Crawford joined a restored Sergei Kravinoff on a boat and thought how it was usually the hero who got the girl.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#7) - Peter Parker was
present with Felicia Hardy when the villainous Dr. Octopus arrived to
kidnap Felicia. Attempting to rescue Felicia, Peter was flung against
the wall as Dr. Octopus absconded with Felicia. Shortly thereafter,
Peter reported to the arriving FBI investigators and Felicia's mother
about his encounter with Dr. Octopus. When FBI Agent Ford showed Mrs.
Hardy the note that Dr. Octopus left, Mrs. Hardy recognized the
signature of scientist Dr. Otto Octavius, whose name Peter recognized
as the man who had earlier averted nuclear disaster at Oscorp. Curious,
Peter quickly excused himself, promising to check in on Mrs. Hardy
later. The next morning, Peter visited the Daily Bugle as J. Jonah
Jameson received a call from Dr. Octopus requesting he be the one to
deliver the ransom for Felicia's safe return. That night, Peter
secretly followed Jameson as Spider-Man during the ransom delivery and
announced himself when Dr. Octopus grasped Jameson in his tentacles.
Dr. Octopus easily grasped Spider-Man as well and flung him outside,
demanding that Spider-Man deliver a message that the ransom was now
double or both Jameson and Felicia would be killed.
The next morning, Peter researched Dr. Otto Octavius
and, determining that Octavius' work was his entire life, he rushed
over to the Daily Bugle to reveal what he had learned. When "Robbie"
Robertson brushed him off, Peter grabbed the phone and called Dr.
Octopus, claiming to be aware of his work and quoting Dr. Octavius'
past remarks about science not being rushed. Impressed that Peter had
read his papers, Dr. Octopus selected Peter to deliver the double
ransom. Later arriving at Dr. Octopus' Meadowlands, New Jersey
headquarters, Peter delivered the ransom money but Dr. Octopus refused
to turn over his hostages, flinging Peter out a window. Returning
moments later as Spider-Man, Peter activated a dynamo Dr. Octopus was
using in his experiments and magnetized Octopus' arms to the machine.
When the dynamo also activated the testing sequence for a rocket,
Spider-Man was forced to choose between rescuing Felicia and Jameson or
stopping Dr. Octopus. Choosing to rescue his friends, Spider-Man was
again met with the freed Dr. Octopus, who reactivated the rocket test
sequence. Realizing Dr. Octopus' obsession with his life's work in cold
fusion, Spider-Man threatened to destroy Octopus' cold fusion battery
and Dr. Octopus immediately grabbed at the activated battery, disabling
his own tentacles with the energy feedback. Spider-Man then used a
giant electromagnet to pin Dr. Octopus and turned off the rocket test
sequence. The FBI then arrived to arrest Dr. Octopus as Spider-Man
changed back into his Peter Parker civilian clothes and met back up
with the rescued Jameson and Felicia, assuring them he was fine
following Dr. Octopus' attack.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#8/Adventures of Spider-Man I#12
(fb)) - Peter Parker was at the
Daily Bugle, where he watched on television the landing of a space
shuttle housing astronauts John Jameson and Paul Stevens alongside J.
Jonah Jameson and "Robbie" Robertson. When the video feed on the
broadcast went out and the audio broadcasted the astronauts' panic,
Parker tried to reassure J. Jonah Jameson that his son John would be
fine but when the news report mentioned the shuttle doing an emergency
touchdown in the Hudson River near the George Washington Bridge, Parker
rushed to call his Aunt May to have her get into the basement for her
own safety. J. Jonah Jameson soon decided to use the Daily Bugle's news
copter to view the shuttle's landing and Parker decided to get an even
closer look at the touchdown as Spider-Man. Arriving at the George
Washington Bridge just in time to see John Jameson crash the shuttle
onto the Bridge, Spider-Man noticed the shuttle door appeared to be
torn open. Checking on the astronauts, Spider-Man's Spider-Sense went
off and the hero was met by the criminal Rhino, who had secretly been
hired by the Kingpin to steal Prometheum X element the astronauts had
acquired. Spider-Man and Rhino briefly fought until Rhino was recalled
back to the Kingpin's Crime Central headquarters, leaving Spider-Man to
rescue the two astronauts on the shuttle moments before the shuttle
fell into the river. Spider-Man got the astronauts to safety and
emerged from the river covered in a black, viscous goo, unaware that
Eddie Brock had taken photos of him at the shuttle.
Later that night, Peter Parker was preparing for bed when he caught a television report by J. Jonah Jameson blaming Spider-Man for the shuttle tragedy and offering a million dollars to whomever could apprehend the hero. Turning off the television annoyed that his good deeds had been met with anger and blame, Parker went to sleep, only to be plagued with nightmares of a black creature attempting to devour him. Awaking to find himself on the side of a building in a sleek, black costume, Spider-Man questioned how he had gotten there and how he wound up in the new costume but before he could get any answers, he was noticed by a police helicopter whose officers sought the reward Jameson had offered for Spider-Man's capture. Attempting to escape, Spider-Man found the new costume could project webbing, seemingly with a mind of its own, and when he found himself cornered by police on the ground, Spider-Man found the suit enhanced his power to allow him to toss around police cars with ease. Finding that his new costume allowed him to easily escape the police, Spider-Man wished he were in less conspicuous clothing and his costume responded to his mental desires, transforming into civilian clothing. The next day at Empire State University, Peter Parker asked Felicia Hardy out on a date but her boyfriend "Flash" Thompson ordered Parker to get lost. The increasingly confident Parker instead refused and the two nearly fought until Felicia broke up the argument, demanding to know what was wrong with Parker. Insisting he was just being himself, Parker thought how he had never felt so good in his life. Later that evening at dinner, Aunt May expressed worry for Parker's safety in taking photos of Spider-Man and an angry Parker lost of control of his emotions and yelled at May, exclaiming that his photos paid the bills. Leaving behind a tearful May, Parker went to his room and received a ping on the Spider-Tracer he had earlier placed on Rhino during their battle on the George Washington Bridge. Tracking Rhino to a military outpost, Spider-Man easily knocked Rhino aside and demanded to know who he was working for. Rhino begged for mercy and surrendered but an overly emotional Spider-Man announced that it was too late for surrender and prepared to beat Rhino to death.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#9) - Coming to his senses,
Spider-Man backed away, leaving the seriously injured Rhino behind, and
departed, hoping to get some air and feeling as if his new costume was
having an intoxicating effect on him. Unfortunately for him, Spider-Man
was immediately attacked outside by bounty hunters P.J. and Fish, who
sought J. Jonah Jameson's reward for Spider-Man's capture. The bounty
hunters soon used an experimental sonic blaster against Spider-Man and
downed the hero in one blast but Spider-Man's new costume seemed to
come to life and it pulled Spider-Man from the hunters' clutches on its
own. Regaining consciousness as the costume pulled him upwards and
clogged the hunters' weapons, Spider-Man decided to find Eddie Brock
for framing him for theft in the first place with his photos of
Spider-Man at the space shuttle. Soon locating Brock at the Daily
Bugle, Spider-Man confronted Brock as he was meeting with J. Jonah
Jameson and accused Brock of framing him for thefts committed by Rhino.
When Jameson accused Spider-Man of being crazy, Spider-Man angrily
asked Jameson who he thought had gotten John Jameson out of the shuttle
and before Jonah could answer, Spider-Man smashed J. Jonah Jameson's
desk. Spider-Man then swung out of the office, thinking about how he
had almost lost control again and, realizing he needed some answers,
Spider-Man visited the ESU lab of Dr. Curt Connors.
(Spider-Man Adventures
I#9/Spider-Man Adventures I#15 (fb)) - After a few tests,
Connors confirmed that Spider-Man's new costume was actually a sentient
being that bonded with and attempted to replace living organisms.
Connors then insisted Spider-Man take off that costume but Spider-Man
remarked that he needed the costume to take care of something first.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#9) - Despite the shock that
his costume was alive, Spider-Man nonetheless
visited the home of Eddie Brock and acquired Brock's photos of
Spider-Man at the shuttle, attempting to teach Brock a lesson in lying.
Soon hearing a commotion outside, Spider-Man found Brock, now jobless
thanks to John Jameson confirming Spider-Man's earlier rescue and
evicted, under attack by the Shocker.
Engaging the Shocker and claiming he wanted Brock for
himself, Spider-Man was quickly buried under rubble by Shocker's
vibro-shock blasters but when Shocker called Spider-Man an overrated
punk and escaped, an angry Spider-Man burst free from the rubble and
tracked Shocker to a hidden lab belonging to Alistair Smythe. Avoiding
Shocker's subsequent attacks, Spider-Man knocked Shocker aside and
webbed up Alistair Smythe, retrieving a vat of Prometheum X in the
process. Later that night, Peter Parker watched on television as J.
Jonah Jameson requested help from Spider-Man to help his son John, who
had been kidnapped by Shocker. Agreeing to help for John, Spider-Man
met J. Jonah Jameson at the Cloisters and was informed by Jameson that
Shocker would exchange John for the Prometheum X Spider-Man had earlier
taken from Smythe. Spider-Man replied to Jameson that the Prometheum X
he had acquired had since burned up and was worthless. Alistair Smythe
soon showed up and Spider-Man gave him the worthless Prometheum X vat
in exchange for John, who Spider-Man suggested Jonah get to safety.
Moments later, Shocker appeared and attacked Spider-Man and their
subsequent battle erupted up into the bell tower of the Cloisters.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#9/Spider-Man Adventures I#10
(fb)) - Having followed Jameson and found him working with Spider-Man,
an angry Eddie Brock confronted Spider-Man, only to be webbed up by
Spider-Man for an intended later confrontation once Shocker was taken
care of.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#9) - Spider-Man eventually
got Shocker to the edge of the tower window and Shocker surrendered.
Realizing he was losing control again, Spider-Man hesitated by his
costume projected tentacles to push Shocker out of the window. Rescuing
Shocker with a well-placed webline, Spider-Man realized Connors was
right and he had to rid himself of the alien costume before it
completely took over. Unable to remove it with his hands, Spider-Man
felt pain when the Cloisters bells rang and, recalling how the bounty
hunters' sonic blasters had earlier affected him, Spider-Man forced him
to remain near the bell until the sonics of the ringing bell forced the
alien off of him.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#9/Spider-Man Adventures I#10 (fb)/Adventures of Spider-Man I#11 (fb)) - Refusing to accept the alien symbiote back, Peter Parker departed, unaware that the symbiote fell down through the bell tower and onto the still-webbed up Eddie Brock, transforming him into the monstrous Venom.
(Spider-Man Adventures
I#10/Adventures of Spider-Man I#11 (fb)/Adventures of Spider-Man I#12
(fb)) - Spider-Man was
patrolling the skies on a full moon thinking about his later date with
Mary Jane Watson when his Spider-Sense went off and he spotted the
Rhino. Engaging the Rhino, who announced he had a score to settle,
Spider-Man was also met by the Shocker and the two villains soon buried
Spider-Man in the rubble of a collapsed billboard. Before either
villains could kill Spider-Man, however, they were met by Venom. By the
time Spider-Man dug himself out of the rubble, he found Rhino and
Shocker webbed to the wall and Eddie Brock helped Spider-Man to his
feet, calling him "Petey." Shocked at being called by his real name,
Spider-Man witnessed Brock transform to his Venom identity and asked
what had happened to him. Spider-Man then tried to warn Venom about the
symbiote taking over but Venom reveled in the power, webbing Spider-Man
up and promising to have his vengeance later. That evening, Peter
Parker visited the Daily Bugle offices and learned of the launch of
shuttle named after John Jameson and, given an idea for his next
confrontation with Venom, Parker went on the rooftop and changed into
his Spider-Man costume. Seconds later, Spider-Man was met by Venom, who
threatened to expose Spider-Man's identity to J. Jonah Jameson or even
Aunt May or Mary Jane Watson. Webbing Spider-Man's hands together,
Venom then swung Spider-Man around and unmasked him, throwing the mask
towards the bystanders on the ground. After again threatening Mary Jane
Watson, Venom tossed the unmasked Spider-Man off the side of the
building. Spider-Man quickly managed to fire two weblines, one to save
himself and the other to retrieve his mask from a bystander who had
caught it. Stopping his fall on a flagpole high enough for no one to
see his identity, Spider-Man put his mask back on and nearly panicked
at the thought of Venom confronting his loved ones before resolving to
handle the situation.
Later that night, Spider-Man waited for Venom to again find him and, as expected, Venom soon showed up to taunt Spider-Man at Grand Central Station. Luring Venom inside, Spider-Man hopped on one of the departing trains and Venom followed, the two battling atop the train until it neared the launch site of the John Jameson shuttle. Jumping from the train, Spider-Man lured Venom to the shuttle and when the shuttle launched, the noise forced the symbiote from Brock. Spider-Man then webbed up the symbiote and attached it to the side of the shuttle as it flew off into space, rescuing the drained Eddie Brock and escaping the heat of the launch using a web parachute. Placing Brock into a military jeep, Spider-Man commended himself on having rejected the power granted him by the symbiote and at having rescued Brock. He then looked into the sky, thinking about how humans were not alone in the universe and wondering what would happen if Venom were not the worse thing out there.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#11
(fb) - BTS) - Harry
Osborn invited Peter Parker to live with him in an apartment paid for
by his father Norman.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#11) - Peter Parker attended the groundbreaking of the Wilson Fisk School of Criminology with Harry Osborn, whose father Norman was also present on the stage with Wilson Fisk. While Fisk spoke, Peter asked Harry if he was sure it was ok to move into the apartment and Harry assured Peter that his father Norman would gladly fund the apartment as long as those living there had straight A grades. When Harry asked if Peter was actually going to move in and, after expressing concern that Aunt May might be lonely, Peter accepted Harry's offer to move into the apartment. As the two discussed the big party they were going to throw once Peter moved in, Peter's Spider-Sense went off as a criminal called the Hobgoblin attacked. Rushing to protect Fisk, Peter pushed him out of the line of fire of one of Hobgoblin's blasts and in the ensuing commotion, he donned his Spider-Man costume and engaged Hobgoblin. The two briefly battled before the Hobgoblin escaped on his glider, forcing Spider-Man to halt his pursuit or risk getting smashed on a steel beam when he flew into the construction site. The next day, as Peter was moving into his new apartment with Harry and a visiting Aunt May, his Spider-Sense went off just as the Hobgoblin attacked and kidnapped Harry Osborn. Peter was pinned during the attack but got back to his feet upon seeing May unresponsive. Rushing May to the Interborough Medical Center, Peter stayed by May's bedside and met with Dr. Shaffner, learning that May had experienced some sort of stress-related seizure. Soon deducing that Hobgoblin was not after him but Harry, Peter rushed over to Oscorp to search for more information, only to witness the Hobgoblin leaving. Overhearing the Hobgoblin monologuing about his business dealings with Norman, Peter donned his Spider-Man costume and gave chase, soon webbing to the bottom of Hobgoblin's new, upgraded glider. Fighting a losing battle against the Hobgoblin and his upgraded glider, Spider-Man was soon knocked into a building under construction and the Hobgoblin fired pumpkin missiles into it, causing a large explosion.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#12/Adventures of Spider-Man
I#7 (fb)) - Dodging most of the
blast inside the building, Spider-Man leapt out of the building and
continued dodging the Hobgoblin's attacks and when the Hobgoblin fired
more missiles, Spider-Man escaped into the sewers. After thinking over
the Hobgoblin's recent actions and his own recent defeats at the
Hobgoblin's hands, Spider-Man became determined to find out more and
take the Hobgoblin down. Emerging from the sewers unnoticed by
emergency personnel tending to the damage caused by the Hobgoblin's
exploding missiles, Peter Parker changed back into his civilian
clothing and subsequently visited Aunt May in the hospital, where Mary
Jane Watson was also checking on May. Peter thanked Mary Jane for being
there for May and Mary Jane assured Peter he needn't thank her before
suggesting he get back to work before J. Jonah Jameson hired another
photographer. Hoping May pulled through, Peter left the hospital and
donned his Spider-Man costume, soon confronting Norman Osborn as
Oscorp. Demanding to know why the Hobgoblin was at Oscorp, Spider-Man
learned that Norman had made a deal with the Hobgoblin after his
company, his inventions and his son Harry were threatened. Warning
Norman Osborn about the people he associated with, Spider-Man departed,
giving Norman until midnight to clear up everything.
Later returning to check on Norman, Spider-Man discovered that Norman had been double crossed by the Hobgoblin and agreed to help Norman rescue Harry. Norman then led Spider-Man to a tunnel leading into the Kingpin's Crime Central, where the Hobgoblin had taken over. Battling and defeating the Hobgoblin, Spider-Man demanded the Hobgoblin release Harry Osborn and the Hobgoblin did so by cutting the cable suspending Harry in the air. Rescuing Harry while the Hobgoblin escaped, Spider-Man attempted to lead Harry back out of the tunnels leading to Crime Central as the building caught fire due to the explosions of Spider-Man's battle with Hobgoblin. As they made their way through the tunnels, the Kingpin blew up the entrance to Crime Central and Spider-Man and Harry emerged from the tunnels just as the rest of the tunnel system exploded. Returning to Oscorp, Spider-Man angrily confronted Norman Osborn for putting his son in danger but the confrontation was interrupted by the Hobgoblin. Seeking revenge on Norman Osborn, the Hobgoblin blew up part of the Oscorp roof and Norman was hit by a metal cylinder while attempting to rescue Harry. Spider-Man quickly pulled the cylinder off of Norman and went up through the roof to confront Hobgoblin once more. When the Hobgoblin rushed in to attack, Spider-Man ducked inside a smokestack and the Hobgoblin's glider clipped the side of the smokestack, causing the Hobgoblin to lose control and fly into the river. With the Hobgoblin again defeated, Peter rushed back to the hospital to check on Aunt May. Dr. Shaffner berated Peter for not being present and when Peter suggested Mary Jane leave and get some rest, Mary Jane assured him her place was there with him. A weakened May soon awoke and told Peter he was not ready to live on his own and Peter happily agreed to return to living with May.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#13) - While patrolling through the city, Spider-Man witnessed a helicopter clip the side of a building and rushed to rescue the pilot inside. Getting the pilot safely to the ground, Spider-Man soon noticed the helicopter falling from the sky and he protected the civilians below with a web shield as the helicopter crashed to the ground, unaware that the pilot he had rescued was actually the shape-shifting Chameleon, who escaped in the commotion. A short time later, Peter Parker visited J. Jonah Jameson in an attempt to get the assignment to photograph the U.N. peace treaty signing. When Jameson refused due to the importance of the event and wishing a staff photographer rather than a freelancer, Parker successfully lobbied for the job of photographing Jameson party to celebrate the treaty signing that night. Jameson soon realized his limousine driver was not taking him to his tailor as ordered and when Jameson questioned where they were going, the driver assured him that no harm would come to Jameson or Peter as the vehicle transformed into an airborne vehicle and took the duo to some sort of secret complex. As agents led Jameson into a room to meet with Col. Nick Fury, Peter quickly and quietly jumped into an air vent to spy on the proceedings. Surprised to see Fury alive after the Daily Bugle had printed his obituary, Peter listened as Fury remarked on how the Daily Bugle had reversed the photo in his faked obituary to show his eye patch on the wrong eye and how the terrorist Chameleon had been hired to prevent the peace treaty signing. After Fury gave Jameson a pin to summon S.H.I.E.L.D. if the Chameleon showed up at his signing party that evening, Peter feigned ignorance and tried to get Jameson to tell him what had happened behind closed doors but Jameson remained tight-lipped. He then accompanied Jameson back to the Daily Bugle, where Jameson began his preparation work for the night's party.
That night, Spider-Man scoped out Jameson's party as the guests arrived, soon spotting the Chameleon breaking into the building. Unfortunately, Spider-Man was hit with a gas spray from the Chameleon and forced to halt his pursuit, deciding instead to change into a tuxedo as Peter Parker and investigate the party inside. When things seemed quiet inside, Peter decided to change into Spider-Man costume again and check on things outside. Spotting "Nick Fury" showing up to take over the evacuation of the world leaders at the party, Spider-Man quickly noticed Fury's eye patch was on the wrong eye and attacked "Fury." S.H.I.E.L.D. immediately engaged Spider-Man, who announced the eye patch being on the wrong eye just in time for the Chameleon, who had been disguised as Fury, attempt escape in a helicopter. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents hit the helicopter, damaging the vehicle's control stick and causing the Chameleon to crash as Jameson asked how the Chameleon could have made such a stupid mistake like the eye patch location. Spider-Man then interrupted, explaining how the Chameleon must have based on his Fury appearance on the Daily Bugle's mistaken obituary photo. The next day, Spider-Man stood guard at the United Nations building as the peace treaty signing began but he soon noticed "Peter Parker" in the building. Attacking the Peter Parker-disguised Chameleon, Spider-Man noted how accurate the Chameleon's impersonation was of him and how he was almost a clone of Parker despite the idea of him having a clone being an absurd idea. Spider-Man then defeated and exposed the Chameleon before departing, thinking to himself how he again did not receive any acknowledgment for his heroics. As he mused atop a stone gargoyle, Spider-Man noticed a S.H.I.E.L.D. fly by and Nick Fury personally gave Spider-Man a thumbs way for his great work at the U.N. building.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#14 (fb) - BTS) - Peter
Parker was given an assignment by the Daily Bugle that required him to
go out of town to South America. At some point during the construction
of the Marvels Theme Park, a statue of Spider-Man was erected alongside
statues of other known superheroes.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#14) - After hitting the
library with Harry Osborn, Peter Parker discussed with Harry why he had
to move out of their apartment and the two discussed the previous
events involving Norman Osborn and the Hobgoblin before Mary Jane
Watson arrived for her date with Peter to the Marvels Theme Park. Once
at the superhero theme park, Peter ate hot dogs with Mary Jane at the
Galactus Goodies food vendor. When he went to get Mary Jane a Coke,
Peter thought about how he was going to tell her that the Daily Bugle
had given him an out of town assignment and as he returned, he found
that Mary Jane had went on the Cyclops Cyclone roller coaster without
him. Now feeling like a creep for not agreeing to go on the coaster
with MJ in the first place, Peter soon heard screams from the coaster
and looked up to see Dr. Octopus attacking the coaster. Peter
immediately changed into his Spider-Man costume and confronted Dr.
Octopus, rescuing the roller coaster cars in the process with a giant
web. Soon knocked from the roller coaster, Spider-Man was met by Mary
Jane, who asked if Spider-Man could have a word with Peter Parker about
courage after the fight. Sighing that Mary Jane now thought him a
coward, Spider-Man followed Dr. Octopus into the theme park's House of
Mirrors. While Dr. Octopus at first gained the upper hand, Spider-Man
ultimately tricked Dr. Octopus into lashing out wildly using mirror
images of himself and a well-placed Spider-Man statue, allowing himself
a chance to directly attack the villain. Spider-Man then had the police
clean up after Dr. Octopus' attack while he changed back into his
civilian clothes and checked on Mary Jane as Peter Parker. Claiming he
had run off to get help while Spider-Man saved Mary Jane, Peter also
told Mary Jane that he would have to go out of town to South America,
the first real trip out of New York City he had ever taken.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#14/2) - Mary Jane Watson led Peter Parker to the Marvels Theme Park's House of Harkness haunted house despite Peter's suggestion that they get a Coke instead. Jokingly asking if Peter had any dark secrets he was trying to hide, Mary Jane convinced Peter to go inside and Peter immediately remarked on the seemingly bad actor playing a butler character. The couple was then led to the fortune teller Madame Harkness, who hinted at Peter's adventurous soul and power to act on his fantasies. Reminded his origin as Spider-Man, Peter began to get suspicious of Madame Harkness' words and worried that she somehow knew of his dual identity of Spider-Man. When Madame Harkness remarked that Peter had learned from his mistakes that with great power came great responsibility, Peter claimed Harkness had been reading too many comics and backed away from her table. Madame Harkness then asked if Peter had become distressed but Peter claimed the air in there was getting to him and he ushered Mary Jane out of the House of Harkness, claiming Harkness didn't know what she was talking while secretly worrying that Harkness did indeed know.
(Spider-Man Adventures I#15) - J. Jonah Jameson drove Peter Parker to Kennedy International Airport for Peter's trip to South America for the Daily Bugle. Stuck in a traffic jam, J. Jonah Jameson soon began grumbly loudly about why he had allowed Peter to photograph the research symposium in Brazil and who would provide the Daily Bugle with photos of Spider-Man while Peter was away. Peter soon interrupted Jonah's tirade to point out his friends waiting for him at the Airport and Jonah begrudgingly told Peter to stay out of trouble in Brazil as Peter got out of the car to meet his friends. After saying his goodbyes to his friends and Aunt May, Peter boarded his plane and during the plane ride, Peter thought about his indecision about whether to go steady with Mary Jane Watson or Felicia Hardy before turning his thoughts towards the neogenics symposium he was about to attend. Upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro, Peter checked into his hotel and overheard some of the staff talking about how Dr. Curt Connors never made it to the hotel. Knowing that Connors was supposed to speak at the neogenics symposium and of his former time as the Lizard, Peter began to grow suspicious and when his bellhop Phillip remarked on some of the locals talking about a lizard-like man in the jungle, Peter decided to investigate as Spider-Man. Hitching a ride atop a bus to the edge of the jungle, Spider-Man soon discovered the Lizard, who immediately attacked the hero. Despite attempts to reach Dr. Connors' human side, Spider-Man was hurled away from the scene by the Lizard but Spider-Man used his momentum to swing back around and kick the Lizard. Spider-Man then webbed up the Lizard but the Lizard ripped himself free and hit Spider-Man in the face with a tree. The Lizard then grabbed Spider-Man and attempted to drown him. Thinking he had succeeded, the Lizard stormed off and Spider-Man came up for air moments later, determined to find a way to restore the Lizard's humanity. Spider-Man then visited a deserted village he had seen on the way into the jungle and found Dr. Connors' lab equipment. Devising a formula to transform the Lizard back into Dr. Connors using his knowledge of neogenics, Spider-Man was attacked by the Lizard and Spider-Man forced the formula down the Lizard's gullet. Spider-Man then witnessed the Lizard return to normal and he suggested Dr. Connors return to his hotel for rest in preparation for his speech at the symposium.
The next day, Peter Parker attended the neogenics symposium and met with a well-rested Dr. Curt Connors, who was glad to see his former student. Peter then took a photo of Dr. Connors for the Daily Bugle before Connors had to rush off for the speech. Looking at photo, Peter wondered if, when they next saw one another, would Connors be his dearest friend or his deadliest enemy.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#1) - Spider-Man was swinging through New York City with a head cold when he stopped to see a group of homeless people. Trying to help in whatever way he could, Spider-Man covered a bus stop in webbing to create a makeshift shelter in hopes of helping the homeless stay warm before he swung over to the piers to patrol. At first thinking he wasn't needed there, Spider-Man considered getting himself a bowl of clam chowder before noticing a group of men loading weapons into a van. Jumping down to stop the thugs, Spider-Man ended up being nearly knocked unconscious thanks to his cold. The weakened Spider-Man did manage to web the thugs' legs together when they tried to escape, only to witness the thugs defeated by a gun-wielding vigilante calling himself the Punisher. Shocked by the Punisher's brutality, Spider-Man affixed a Spider-Tracer to the back of Punisher's van, hoping to track down the Punisher later after he recovered from his cold. Peter then returned home to Forest Hills, where Aunt May doted on him and insisted he go to bed. Later that night, Peter's Spider-Tracer went off and he donned his Spider-Man costume to find the Punisher. Avoiding Aunt May to get out of the house, Spider-Man soon located the Punisher beneath the crumbling West Side Highway and joined in the Punisher's battle against another group of thugs. Angry that Spider-Man was interfering in his work, the Punisher shot a steel bar Spider-Man was using as a weapon out of Spider-Man's hands and warned Spider-Man to stay out of his war. The two heroes then argued as the thugs tried to escape, prompting the Punisher to rush after the thugs. Spider-Man attempted to stop the Punisher from murdering the thugs but Punisher swatted the still-sick Spider-Man aside. Spider-Man retaliated by tripping the Punisher with a webline and the two again exchanged words, with the Punisher asking how Spider-Man slept at night knowing that each criminal he didn't permanently dispose of could be taking an innocent's life. The Punisher then departed in his van, only to have Spider-Man give chase and the two continued arguing and fighting amongst each other as they arrived to confront the thugs. The thugs' backup arrived moments later in the form of a group of hitmen the Punisher called the Choirboys and the two nearly teamed up until Spider-Man again demanded the Punisher put down his guns. The angry Punisher again briefly attacked Spider-Man until gunfire forced him to pull Spider-Man out of the line of fire. When the thugs and hitmen then attempted to escape in a Mercedes, Punisher shot out the tires and Spider-Man assured the thugs were alive and made sure emergency personnel were on their way. Punisher then agreed not to kill the thugs for the moment, promising to return if they got back out into the streets. Spider-Man replied by warning that he might also turn up in unexpected places before telling the Punisher to leave. The next day, Peter turned in the photos he had taken during the encounter with Punisher in to the Daily Bugle and when J. Jonah Jameson recognized his Mercedes, Peter decided to beat a quiet retreat to go pick up Aunt May's new glasses. Returning home empty-handed, Peter learned that May needed new drinking glasses not eyeglasses and May ushered the sick Peter back to bed.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#2 (fb) - BTS) - At some
point, Spider-Man comic books were published under the title Adventures of Spider-Man.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#2) - Spider-Man trained in hopes against cardboard cutouts of his worst enemies, accidentally breaking the faucet on Aunt May's sink when he tried to leap over the Kraven the Hunter cutout. After fixing the faucet, Peter Parker ventured into the city to visit the Daily Bugle, where he encountered the gangster Hammerhead and his goons leaving "Robbie" Robertson's office. Upon learning that the Hammerhead had nearly convinced "Robbie" to pull an anti-crime story by threatening Bugle workers, Peter managed to talk "Robbie" into running the piece as planned. The next morning, Peter was fixing the pipe underneath May's new faucet when he received a phone call revealing that "Robbie" had been hospitalized after being beaten up. Blaming himself for talking "Robbie" into printing his story, Peter rushed over to Mercy Hospital and visited "Robbie" alongside J. Jonah Jameson. After leaving "Robbie"'s room, Jameson berated Peter for talking "Robbie" into running the story and accused Peter of being responsible for "Robbie"'s injuries. An angry Jameson then asked Peter what advice he had for "Robbie" now that he was in the hospital before leaving and Peter decided to make it up to "Robbie" by finishing his job and taking down Hammerhead. Traveling to the Lindsay Convention Center, home of Hammerhead's operations, Spider-Man was stopped by a ticket taker at Green's Comic-Con, an event being held there. Failing to convince the ticket taker that he was the real Spider-Man, Spider-Man swung off, immediately announcing his presence to Hammerhead and his men. The thugs opened fire on Spider-Man, shredding his webline and causing him to fall on a vendor's booth full of vintage comics and original art. Dodging autograph hounds, Spider-Man made his way to the stairwell and confronted Hammerhead, who buried Spider-Man in rubble created by his headbutts. The dazed Spider-Man soon managed to free himself and found Hammerhead's men beating up J. Jonah Jameson outside the convention center. Rescuing Jameson, Spider-Man prepared to get Jameson medical attention but Hammerhead appeared and tried to run Spider-Man over with his car. Dodging the attack, Spider-Man set Jameson down and attacked Hammerhead face-to-face, knocking aside Hammerhead's car and forcing the gangster to flee. Spider-Man then got Jameson to the hospital. Later, Peter Parker visited "Robbie" Robertson and J. Jonah Jameson, learning that Hammerhead had been run out of town and his convention center extortion ring had been shut down. When Jameson began ranting that Spider-Man had caused his injuries and "Robbie" argued against the statements, Peter decided to excuse himself and he returned home to pay Ed's Plumbing to fix the broken faucet. Aunt May subsequently returned to find the kitchen floor flooded and Peter explained that he had an accident while she was gone and that he would clean it up.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#3 (fb) - BTS) - In addition to his past battles against Venom and the Lizard, Spider-Man had also once fought Doctor Doom.
(Adventures of the X-Men I#3) - When the
mutant-hating Friends of Humanity cornered a young mutant named Adam
and Adam fell from the ledge of his building, the heroic X-Men Beast
and Gambit attempted to rescue the falling child but fell short of
reaching him until Spider-Man swung by on a webline and caught Adam.
After getting Adam to safety, Spider-Man aided Beast and Gambit in
dispersing the Friends of Humanity. He was then properly introduced to
Gambit and Beast, learning of their status as X-Men and the X-Men's
mission to help young mutants like Adam cope with their burgeoning
mutant powers. Having just met the X-Men and not quite yet trusting
them fully, Spider-Man suggested they take Adam over to the lab of Dr.
Curt Connors to help Adam rather than just turning Adam over to X-Men
custody. The X-Men agreed and Spider-Man soon arrived at Dr. Connors'
ESU lab, where tests were run on Adam to check his vitals and test his
fire-creating mutant abilities. Gambit and Spider-Man both soon had to
department while Beast and Dr. Connors continued testing Adam until the
mysterious Dr. Essex arrived to visit Dr. Connors, supposedly from
eastern Europe. Secretly following Gambit, Spider-Man overheard Gambit
telling an ally at Adam's orphanage that they needed to get Adam into
their custody and, again not quite trusting the X-Men, Spider-Man
quickly realized he had left Adam in the Beast's custody at Dr.
Connors' lab. Rushing back to the lab to check on Adam, Spider-Man
found the lab under attack by Dr. Essex, revealed as the villain Mr.
Sinister, who was manipulating Adam for his own purposes. Sinister sent
Adam to attack Spider-Man but the hero avoiding the flames and directly
attacked Sinister, nearly breaking his hand on Sinister's metallic
hide. When the flames got close to Beast and Dr. Connors, Spider-Man
attempted to rescue them by using web-shooters to fire webbing in
liquid form to douse the flames. Unfortunately, Sinister manipulated
Adam into melting the cables holding the machinery above Spider-Man and
Spider-Man was soon pinned beneath the falling heavy machinery.
Sinister then knocked Spider-Man out with a punch and decided to take
the unconscious Spider-Man with him, unsure if Spider-Man was a mutant
or not.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#3) - After hours and hours of testing, Mr. Sinister determined Spider-Man was not a mutant and convinced Adam to reluctantly turn his powers against Spider-Man. Beast and Gambit soon tracked Spider-Man down by reverse-engineering a Spider-Tracer he had left behind at Connors' lab and a weakened Spider-Man watched as Sinister unleashed his Nasty Boys agents against the two X-Men. During the ensuing scuffle, Spider-Man managed to break the manacles that had already been weakened by Adam's flame powers and the newly-freed Spider-Man joined in the fight against the Nasty Boys. The Nasty Boys' Gorgeous George enveloped Spider-Man but the hero managed to kick George off just in time to dodge an energy blast from Sinister himself. Teaming with the X-Men, Spider-Man created a web bunker to block Sinister and the Nasty Boys' attacks while Gambit hurled explosive cards over the bunker wall. Sinister and his agents soon escaped as Adam began to lose control of his powers, forcing Spider-Man to attempt to reach Adam. Reminding Adam that he knew how it felt to be different but had amazing adventures because of his differences, Spider-Man eventually succeeded in getting through to Adam and calmed the boy down. Preparing to remove his mask and reveal himself as an everyday person to convince Adam, Spider-Man pulled up his mask halfway before Adam assured Spider-Man that he didn't have to reveal his secret identity. Spider-Man then asked where Adam needed to go next and Adam admitted that he wished to return to his orphanage despite the orphans turning on him during the Friends of Humanity's earlier attack. Assuring Adam he would see him again, Spider-Man then swung away, relieved that he didn't have to reveal his identity and telling the X-Men not to be strangers.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#4) - Spider-Man's nightly patrol led him to Manhattan, where he saw a young boy skateboarding and decided to let the boy skate a few minutes more before sending the boy home. His Spider-Sense suddenly went off, however, and Spider-Man failed to reach the boy before the villainous Vulture attacked the boy. After the Vulture drained some of the boy's life force to rejuvenate himself, Spider-Man jumped in to attack the criminal. Spider-Man then checked on the boy and was shocked to see the boy resembling an elderly man. Vulture continued his retaliations against Spider-Man while the hero attempted to protect the now-aged skateboarder. When the Vulture's rejuvenation wore off two minutes later, the Vulture fled while Spider-Man witnessed the drained boy return to his normal age. The next morning, Peter Parker enjoyed coffee at the kitchen table with Aunt May and Mary Jane Watson and he read in the paper about the elderly Adrian Toomes, who was still running his company, Toomes Aerodynamics. The trio then discussed Norman Osborn's attempt to oust Toomes and purchase his company and when Peter and Mary Jane exclaimed that elderly should be respected, Aunt May chimed in that Toomes would likely do whatever comes naturally to him based on his life experiences to defend his company from the takeover. Deciding to investigate Oscorp later that night, Spider-Man was attacked by the Vulture, who had discovered Spider-Man's presence while arriving to attack Norman Osborn. Slashing open Spider-Man's mask, Vulture soon buried Spider-Man beneath a mound of rocks and debris sliced from the side of the Oscorp building. Vulture then drained the energy from Spider-Man, rejuvenating himself and leaving Spider-Man an aged man. Recalling Aunt May's earlier words about doing what came naturally and how Parkers didn't quit, the elderly Spider-Man summoned enough strength to free himself from the debris and he confronted the Vulture, hitting him in the face with webbing. After tackling the Vulture, however, Spider-Man fell over with chest pains but the Vulture's rejuvenation wore off, restoring Spider-Man to his true age. Realizing the unconscious Vulture had been Adrian Toomes, Spider-Man thought about Toomes would now lose Toomes Aerodynamics to Osborn while in jail and decided to call 911 and let them clean up the scene. Returning home, Peter Parker found Aunt May and Mary Jane throwing a party for May's elderly friends. When May remarked that Peter had no idea what elderly folks were capable of, Peter assured her that he knew exactly what they could be capable of when the chips were down.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#5) - Peter Parker accompanied J. Jonah Jameson and "Robbie" Robertson to Tommy's, one of Jameson's favorite restaurants, but had trouble breathing due to all of the cigarette and cigar smoke. While there, Peter asked and was declined for a raise from Jameson and the trio began discussing possible new articles, with "Robbie" suggesting Peter for an editorial on Dr. Peale, who had designed a virus that ate chemical compounds. Downtrodden over the lack of a raise, Parker sulked, ignoring "Robbie"'s suggestion, until Jameson was informed that his son John had been kidnapped by the Rhino and rushed off, leaving "Robbie" and Parker to pay for their own lunches. Investigating as Spider-Man, Peter soon located the Rhino by following his trail of destruction and Rhino immediately attacked, charging Spider-Man into a building. Spider-Man then hit Rhino with a damaged live wire but the Rhino shrugged off the voltage and departed, expressing desire to grind Spider-Man to dust later. Planting a Spider-Tracer on Rhino in hopes of later tracking him to John Jameson's location, Peter Parker decided to return home to Aunt May, only to find her sick in bed. Learning that May had stopped taking her medication due to them being tight on money, Peter suddenly recalled Dr. Peale and his chemical-eating virus and rushed off to meet with him as Spider-Man in hopes of using the virus to stop Rhino. Dr. Peale gladly assisted Spider-Man in developing the virus in a liquid form and Spidey filled his web-shooters with the fluid before receiving a signal from his Spider-Tracer. Again tracking down the Rhino, who was carrying the kidnapped John Jameson this time, Spider-Man webbed a camera to a building to catch some photos before confronting Rhino. Rhino again immediately attacked Spider-Man, who tripped Rhino up using the virus webbing and dodged many of the Rhino's attacks. Spider-Man soon covered Rhino in the virus webbing and the virus started eating away at Rhino's hide, weakening Rhino enough for Spider-Man to punch Rhino into unconsciousness. He then checked on his camera, only to find it missing due to the virus webbing he had used to hold it up dissolving. The next day, Peter Parker visited the Daily Bugle, where he received a letter from the competing Press newspaper's Jason Phipps explaining that one of his reporters had found Peter Parker's missing camera and used the camera's photos in their paper. Parker also discovered a paycheck from the Press inside the envelope, paying the freelance photographer Peter for the use of his photos. Jokingly announcing that he was going to visit Phipps about a job, Peter was stopped by Jameson, who offered Peter more money. When Parker walked off, Jameson went into a fit and Peter assured Jameson he'd never leave.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#6) - J. Jonah Jameson decided to make Peter Parker the new society page photographer while the Daily Bugle's Miss Liebowitz was out of town. Peter refused until Jameson threatened to stop accepting Peter's photos altogether. Backing down somewhat at the threat of not receiving a paycheck, Peter tried to argue that he was an action photographer but Jameson insisted he had enough Spider-Man photos at the moment and gave Peter his first society assignment: an art exhibition featuring the work of blind sculptress Alicia Masters at Four Freedoms Plaza. As he left Jameson's office, Peter was told to do something about his clothes before he went to Four Freedoms Plaza and a grumbling Peter left the Bugle and changed into his Spider-Man costume, figuring he would worry about Four Freedoms Plaza the next day. Returning home to inform Aunt May of his new assignment, Peter was swayed into getting a new suit tailored and May accompanied him to the fitting, much to Peter's dismay. Johnny Storm soon stopped by the tailor's to pick up his tuxedo and picked on Peter, who remembered him from school, before leaving.
The next day, Peter attended the art exhibit at Four Freedoms Plaza and he was again picked on by Johnny Storm, who was friends with Alicia Masters. The two butted heads until Peter's Spider-Sense went off and he rushed off, leaving Storm to think him a coward. Returning to the exhibit as Spider-Man, Peter found Alicia captured by her villainous stepfather, the Puppet Master. The Puppet Master then unleashed an android Thing statue against Spider-Man and Storm, who had flamed on as the Human Torch. During the battle, the Puppet Master formed a clay puppet of Spider-Man and used it to control Spider-Man into attacking Human Torch alongside the Thing statue. The Torch eventually managed to lure Spider-Man into the path of the Thing statue's punch, which knocked Spider-Man into the Puppet Master and allowed Alicia Masters to crush the Spider-Man puppet, freeing Spidey from the Puppet Master's control. The Torch then incinerated the Thing statue, revealing the Mad Thinker controlling the android statue inside. Having been caught in their crimes, the Puppet Master and Mad Thinker then enveloped themselves in a globe of the Puppet Master's radioactive clay and escaped into the air, prompting Spider-Man and the Human Torch to pursue. Attaching a webline to the globe, Spider-Man was pulled high into the atmosphere, eventually running low on air and falling from the globe. Human Torch rescued Spider-Man and when they touched down on a nearby rooftop and Human Torch flamed off, Spider-Man burst out laughing. When the Torch demanded to know what was so funny, Spider-Man reminded Torch that his tuxedo had not been treated with unstable molecules and had burned up when the Human Torch flamed on, leaving the Torch completely naked. Spider-Man then retrieved his civilian clothing and gave them to the Torch, announcing that the Torch now needed them more than he did.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#7) - Grateful for a
recent slowdown in crime in New York City, Spider-Man patrolled the
city thinking of how the drop in crime would affect his opportunities
to get paid for photos from the Daily Bugle. After thinking about how
he would make some money photographing a police fundraiser in "Robbie"
Robertson's honor being held by Wilson Fisk, Spider-Man began thinking
about how only he seemed to realize Fisk was really the Kingpin. As he
swung down and a read a newspaper atop the newspaper kiosk, Spider-Man
continued thinking that the Kingpin was somehow behind the drop in
crime. Later that night, Peter attended the fundraiser and met up with
Mary Jane Watson, who had chosen from her model agency to help host the
fundraiser. Introduced to Fisk and his wife Vanessa at the party, Peter
snapped at Fisk, who politely warned Peter about how cockiness could
land him in trouble. Peter then went over to Det. Terri Lee to inform
her of Fisk's nature as the crimelord Kingpin and while he spoke with
Lee, J. Jonah Jameson, unaware of Fisk's true nature, blurted out how
Peter was always stirring up trouble and claimed he only kept Peter
employed to help Peter's sickly aunt. When Fisk later walked up to
socialize with Lee, who didn't believe Peter's suspicions about Fisk
and jokingly remarked on them to Fisk, Peter excused himself from the
conversation as Fisk asked what Peter had been saying about him.
Worrying that he had now earned Fisk's ire as Peter Parker in addition
to as Spider-Man, Peter was relieved when the fundraiser wound down and
when he returned home, he called and left a message for Mary Jane
Watson to apologize for how he had acted at the party.
Days later, as a crime wave swept the city, Spider-Man had his hands full trying to quell the criminals and also became very worried that Mary Jane had not returned his phone calls. After asking "Flash" Thompson if he'd seen Mary Jane, Peter Parker briefly traded insults with the jock before deciding to visit Mary Jane's apartment to check on her. Finding her mail piled up and the apartment door open, Peter became worried and soon found a cigarette holder on the floor. Recalling that one of Fisk's men at the party had an identical cigarette holder, Peter immediately donned his Spider-Man costume and rushed to confront the Kingpin at Crime Central. Upon smashing his way inside, Spider-Man was met by the Enforcers, Fisk's men from the party, and while Spider-Man held his own for a time, the Enforcers eventually overwhelmed and defeated him as the Kingpin appeared.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#8) - Kingpin gave the unconscious Spider-Man a serious beating before he was interrupted by his wife Vanessa. After hiding his true nature and escorting Vanessa away from his office, Kingpin returned to gloat about the kidnapping of Mary Jane and the defeat of Spider-Man, whom he hurled across the room and gassed using his cane. He then ordered the Enforcers to dump Spider-Man's body somewhere out of his home. Hours later, Spider-Man regained consciousness on a boat dock and was more determined than ever to find evidence of Wilson Fisk's criminal nature. Deciding that Vanessa Fisk could be the key to taking down the Kingpin, Peter visited the Daily Bugle and learned that "Robbie" Robertson and J. Jonah Jameson were about to leave for a meeting at city hall that would also be attended by Wilson Fisk. Realizing that Kingpin being gone would be the perfect time to make contact with Vanessa Fisk, Peter visited the Chrysler Building apartment of the Fisks and claimed he was there to interview Vanessa for a Daily Bugle piece on influential New Yorkers. Fisk's butler Beachum at first refused Peter but Vanessa, overhearing the commotion, came out to see Peter and allowed him inside. Peter then spoke with Vanessa, asking her about Wilson's business dealings, and when Vanessa asked him to be honest, Peter admitted his suspicions that Wilson was the criminal Kingpin and his fears about Mary Jane's disappearance. Her own suspicions about Wilson confirmed by Peter's suspicions, Vanessa had Peter ushered out and sent a telegram to Wilson announcing that she was leaving him.
Later, while having coffee at the Coffee Bean, Peter was thinking how his visit with Vanessa did not bring him any closer to finding Mary Jane when he received a phone call from Kingpin giving him two hours to bring Vanessa back to him or risk Mary Jane's life. Unsure of how to find Vanessa, Spider-Man visited the Chrysler Building and waited for Beachum to return. When he did, Spider-Man demanded to know where Vanessa was and threatened Beachum into revealing Vanessa's location. Spider-Man then visited Vanessa and convinced her to help save Mary Jane. Soon after, Vanessa returned to the Kingpin and revealed that she had learned of Wilson's criminal activities thanks to Spider-Man. Spider-Man then appeared from a nearby window, demanding Mary Jane Watson's release, but Kingpin ordered the Enforcers to take care of the hero. Spider-Man easily dodged the Enforcers' attacks until Kingpin personally battled Spider-Man. Vanessa soon halted the fight, however, pleading with Spider-Man not to hurt her husband and when the Kingpin attempted to use his cane against the hero, Spider-Man kicked the cane in half. Spider-Man then again demanded to know Mary Jane's whereabouts and the Kingpin at first refused until Vanessa announced her plans to leave him if he did not tell Spider-Man where Mary Jane was. Angry but refusing to lose his wife, the Kingpin reluctantly told Spider-Man and Spider-Man rushed off to save Mary Jane, warning that he would return if something had happened to her. Busting into Mary Jane's room, Spider-Man rescued Mary Jane and returned to the Kingpin, hoping that Mary Jane's testimony would end the Kingpin's empire. Unfortunately, Kingpin and Vanessa Fisk had escaped and Spider-Man figured Kingpin had convinced Vanessa he would go straight.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#9) - Peter Parker comforted his Aunt May after she lost her friend Bonnie Anderson, who had left May with a plot of land in southern Arizona. When May expressed sadness that they could not afford to keep the land, Peter jokingly suggested they build a dude ranch or a casino on it before seriously suggesting they travel to Arizona to check out the land. Unable to afford the trip, Peter visited the Daily Bugle and convinced J. Jonah Jameson to foot the bill for the trip in exchange for a portion of the land. Peter then traveled to Arizona and found the piece of land with a small town on it despite his earlier impression from Ms. Anderson's will and lawyer that the land was uninhabited. Asking locals Ron and Teddy about the land and the people living on it, Peter was met with negativity and decided to walk around, soon finding nothing but the suspicious eyes of the locals or people packing up their belongings. Finding a room at a local station, Peter prepared to get some rest but he was woken in the middle of the night by a strange green light. He then ventured outside to investigate and the town was rocked by what seemed to be an earthquake. During the tremor, Peter rescued a man about to fall into a trench, only to find the man entranced. When rain appeared to fall moments later, however, it mysteriously turned to smoke and Peter fell over unconscious trying to rescue other locals, wondering why his Spider-Sense didn't go off. Twelves hour later, Peter awoke in the middle of the non-damaged street with the locals ignoring him as they walked past and he was soon found by Teddy, who tried to explain strange things that had been occurring in the town until Ron arrived and quieted him. Deciding to investigate as Spider-Man, Peter soon discovered several pieces of Hollywood special effects equipment and his search eventually led him to Mysterio. Realizing that his Spider-Sense had earlier been dulled by drugs in the smoky rain, Spider-Man deduced that Mysterio had also drugged the townspeople, causing them to act entranced. As the two battled, Mysterio attempted to gas Spider-Man once more but he generated web balls and spun them on weblines to fan the gas away from him. He then covered Mysterio in a blanket of webs, defeating the villain and dispersing his illusions. The following morning, Spider-Man (with a captured Mysterio in tow) explained to the locals how Mysterio's illusions had been responsible for the strange things they had seen and he turned the deed to the land over to the townspeople, claiming Peter Parker had his fill of western life. Upon returning to New York, Peter turned in photos to J. Jonah Jameson, who asked about his land. Peter replied that the land had dried up and he had given the land away. Jameson then pulled out a newspaper and discovered that oil had been discovered on the land, prompting him to angrily tell Parker to get out of his sight.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#10 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Spider-Man made a nemesis out of the armored criminal Beetle by defeating him. After redesigning his armor and programming Spider-Man's fighting style into it, hoping to anticipate the wall-crawler's moves, the Beetle attacked Spider-Man and was again defeated. One day, after stopping a mugging in Central Park, Spider-Man was pursued and observed by a trio of drones.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#10) - Still pursued by
the drones some forty blocks from Central Park, Spider-Man realized he
had to lose the drones before changing into his civilian clothing so he
dropped down to ground level from web-swinging and attempted to lose
the drones amongst the neighborhood backyards and alleys, only to run
into clothing drying on a clothesline. When one of the drones split off
from the group, Spider-Man gave it a chase then ducked, using its
acceleration and lack of pinpoint brakes to snatch it with a webline.
The drone then tried to escape, pulling Spider-Man with it, but Spidey
eventually halted its progress and removed a data disc from the drone.
Returning home to view the disc on his home computer, Peter Parker
learned that the drones were sent by the armored Beetle to various
superheroes to learn their secrets in an effort to force the heroes
into retirement or risk their secrets becoming public. When the video
on the disc ended with the Beetle suggesting Spider-Man enjoy the
foliage in Forest Hills, Peter realized that while the Beetle did not
yet know his secret identity, he did know where he lived and he worried
that the Beetle might strike at his loved ones. Two days later, an
exhausted Peter visited the Daily Bugle and met Deidre Segui, a
computer-savvy former criminal whom "Robbie" Robertson wanted to give a
second chance to by offering her a job. When Peter noticed one of the
Beetle's drones outside, he realized the Beetle now knew where he
worked and panicked, excusing himself and deciding to visit the
Fantastic Four to have Mister Fantastic look over the drone he had
captured. Arriving at Four Freedoms Plaza, Spider-Man's wait was
interrupted by a bickering Human Torch and Thing, a fight soon halted
by the Invisible Woman, who led Spider-Man to Mister Fantastic. Hours
later, Mister Fantastic determined that the drones operated on a
microwave frequency and he created a device that would allow Spider-Man
to track a drone back to its source.
After coming up empty handed while trying to find a drone to track, Peter Parker visited with Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn at ESU until they spotted one of the drones. Realizing the Beetle now knew Spider-Man was an ESU student, Peter quickly excused himself and changed into his Spider-Man costume to track the drone. Tracking the drone to a barge docked on the river, Spider-Man witnessed the Beetle working with criminal tech-builder the Tinkerer and confronted the pair. The Tinkerer immediately fled but the Beetle attacked Spider-Man, who only barely dodged the Beetle's Electro-Bite. The Beetle soon went airborne and Spider-Man snatched his leg with a webline as the Beetle tried to maneuver Spider-Man away. Eventually, Spider-Man managed to steer the Beetle into the Hudson River, where the Beetle attempted to drown Spider-Man until his suit stop functioning due to being unable to receive its empowering microwave transmissions underwater. Spider-Man then grabbed the Beetle and pulled them both to safety. An hour later, Spider-Man met with Deidre Segui and had her hack into the Beetle's CD-ROM and send a computer virus back through the Beetle's computer network, crashing it for any and all of the Beetle's connections. To thank Deidre for helping him, Spider-Man opted to contact the police and the Daily Bugle to report on the criminal computer network crash and Deidre's hand in it, an act that would sell papers and entice J. Jonah Jameson to hire Deidre. Spider-Man then departed, hoping to get a good night's rest in his own bed.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#11) - On his way to a date with Mary Jane Watson, Spider-Man stopped to halt a bank robbery and ultimately ended being over twenty minutes late to meet Mary Jane. Stopping on a rooftop to change into his dress clothes for a show, Peter Parker arrived at the theater during the overture and sat down, only to learn that Mary Jane had sold her ticket to a middle-aged man before Peter had arrived. When the man mentioned that Mary Jane had some unflattering things to say about Peter, the downtrodden Peter left the theater and walked away, worried he might lose Mary Jane due to his dual identity as Spider-Man. Deciding he would tell Mary Jane of his heroic identity as Spider-Man, Peter traveled to Mary Jane's house and, despite still being angry at him, Mary Jane allowed him inside to explain himself. As Peter was about to reveal his identity to her, however, a special report came on the television regarding the prison breakout of Eddie Brock at the hands of Doctor Octopus. Claiming he would need to cover the breakout for the Daily Bugle, Peter frantically excused himself and changed into his Spider-Man costume to investigate. Spider-Man then tracked down and confronted the criminals, prompting Dr. Octopus to put his Skycar on autopilot to battle the wall-crawler The Skycar soon crashed into the 59th Street Bridge and while Spider-Man attempted to save the injured Dr. Octopus, Octopus released the Venom symbiote that he had earlier acquired from space. The symbiote then re-bonded to Eddie Brock and Venom pulled away Spider-Man from his rescue attempt, ready to kill the hero.
(Adventures of Spider-Man I#12) - The weight of Venom and Spider-Man soon began to topple the Skycar and Spider-Man managed to kick Venom in the face. When Venom referred to Spider-Man as "Parker," Spider-Man hoped Dr. Octopus didn't hear Venom's words as their battle continue to topple the Skycar until it plunged into the river. Venom and Dr. Octopus survived the plunge and quickly departed to work together while Spider-Man emerged from the river moments later, more determined than ever to stop the villains out of fear of his identity being revealed. After searching for Venom and Dr. Octopus most of the night with no luck, Spider-Man resigned himself to return home for rest and resume his search in the morning. Moments before sneaking into his home window, however, he was hit by a camouflaged Venom. Demanding to know what Venom hoped to gain from his attack, Spider-Man learned Venom intended to destroy Spider-Man by terrorizing his loved ones, starting with Mary Jane Watson. Overhearing Mary Jane's screaming as she was attacked by Dr. Octopus not far away, Spider-Man turned to save her, leaving himself open to a devastating punch from Venom. Venom then grappled Spider-Man, deliberately preventing him from rescuing Mary Jane in an effort to psychologically torture Spider-Man, who ultimately slammed Venom through Mary Jane's wall. When Dr. Octopus hurled Mary Jane into Venom's clutches, Spider-Man knocked Dr. Octopus out with a single punch then jumped back into the fight with Venom. Venom managed to knock Spider-Man into Mary Jane's kitchen, where Spider-Man found a box of matches. Lighting a match, Spider-Man held one near the smoke alarm to set it off, the sonics of which disrupted Venom's symbiote. Spider-Man then punched out the weakened Venom, only to be attacked once more by a dazed Dr. Octopus. Unfazed by Dr. Octopus' delirious attack, Spider-Man tied Dr. Octopus' arms in a knot then webbed up the criminal. Turning to check on Venom, Spider-Man found him missing as the police arrived to arrest Dr. Octopus and he tried to assure Mary Jane everything would be fine but she angrily told him to leave, feeling as if Spider-Man had led the villains there. Reluctantly leaving, Peter returned home and blamed himself for ruining things with Mary Jane, feeling as if being alone was the price he had to pay to be Spider-Man. Surprisingly, a knock soon came to his door and Mary Jane appeared, apologizing for how she had treated Peter earlier and asking if she could use Peter's shoulder to cry on. Happy to be there for her, Peter embraced Mary Jane, knowing that at least for the moment, he could not tell Mary Jane of his other identity.
(Adventures of the X-Men I#12 - BTS) - Spider-Man was
destroyed alongside with his entire reality when the monstrous
Dweller-in-Darkness corrupted and destroyed the reality-bending M'Kraan
Crystal.

While the current Multiverse uses the Core Continuum Designation system to identify each Earth/reality, we do not know what system was used in the previous Multiverse. However, in an infinite Multiverse, for each reality from the previous Multiverse, there would be a reality that mirrors it in the current Multiverse. Therefore, the Wolverine in this profile is from a pre-current Multiverse reality that shared some similarities to the current Multiverse's Earth-92131.
For further clarification, reality-92131 is the main reality seen in the X-Men: The Animated Series, Spider-Man: The Animated Series cartoons, as well as both volumes of the X-Men '92 comic book. All three volumes of the X-Men Adventures comic book, the Spider-Man Adventures comic book, Adventures of the X-Men comic book and Adventures of Spider-Man comic books started out adapting cartoon episodes but had several significant variations before eventually straying from the cartoon completely. Therefore, the main reality seen in these comic books would not actually BE reality-92131 but rather (judging from the final issue of Adventures of the X-Men) a reality existing in and prior to the current Multiverse that shared many features with the current Multiverse's reality-92131.
The Spider-Man Adventures comic series began as adaptations of the Spider-Man cartoon series airing at the time but the adaptations were loose and some events differed from the cartoon's Earth-92131 events, such as Spider-Man first encountering Otto Octavius at Oscorp during the Scorpion's attack in Spider-Man Adventures I#2 (unlike Earth-92131, where Peter met Octavius as a child at a science camp) and several characters resembling their Earth-616 counterparts instead of their Earth-92131 counterparts. An example of this would be Aunt May who, on Earth-92131 is an older woman with blonde hair, but in the pre-current multiverse Spider-Man Adventures comic, she first resembles her Earth-616 counterpart (i.e. MUCH more elderly looking, white hair, etc. though she did eventually go blonde in the comic too!). Additionally, when Spider-Man Adventures ended and was relaunched as Adventures of Spider-Man, the series stopped adapting cartoon episodes altogether and began telling original stories set in the pre-current multiverse reality, similar to the X-Men Adventures and Adventures of the X-Men comics (though events seen in Spider-Man Adventures that adapted the cartoon episodes were still referenced in Adventures of Spider-Man). Interestingly enough, there are a few small things in this pre-current Multiverse reality that line up with Earth-616 and not Earth-92131, such as Spider-Man first meeting the Fantastic Four when he tried to join them (i.e. the story in Amazing Spider-Man I#1) and Spider-Man teaming up with the Fantastic Four and Avengers in an intergalactic war (Secret Wars).
This profile was completed 09/21/2021, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 20th anniversary's celebratory event.
