History: (Amazing Spider-Man III#9 (fb) - BTS) - Hailing from Earth-94, Ben Reilly was a clone of his reality's Peter Parker (see comments).

(Spider-Verse Team-Up I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Things always seemed to work out for Ben, even during his darkest hours.

(Scarlet Spiders I#3 (fb)) - When Spider-Man (Peter Parker) lost his powers, he passed the mantle of Spider-Man to Ben, who took up Peter's costumed identity. At one point, Spider-Man battled Doctor Octopus and the Hulk, where he was beaten within an inch of his life.

(Scarlet Spiders I#1 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Spider-Man encountered Silvermane, whom he thought smelled pretty good up until Silvermane became a "withered, old head." He also built himself a stealth suit.

(Spider-Verse Team-Up#1 (fb) - BTS) - At one point, he was possessed by the Carnage alien symbiote but he fought impossible odds to overcome the possession.

(Scarlet Spiders I#3 (fb)) - Spider-Man battled Thanos alongside Captain America, Spider-Woman and Thor. After saving Marla Madison from Alistaire Smythe, Spider-Man earned the respect and acceptance of J. Jonah Jameson and the Daily Bugle.

(Scarlet Spiders I#3 (fb)) - Later, Spider-Man was caught up in a riot between supporters of Electro and those who opposed Dexter Bennett, leaving him feeling exhausted and heartsick. During a subsequent battle with a dying Doctor Octopus, Spider-Man managed to defeat Doctor Octopus, who perished in the battle as Spider-Man apologized aloud for not being able to save him.

(Spider-Verse Team-Up I#1) - Spider-Man battled the Vulture, unaware that it was actually an alternate reality counterpart of his reality's Vulture, when several more alternate reality Vultures appeared and attacked Spider-Man. The alternate Jimmy Natale Vulture quickly got the drop on Ben, pinning him to the ground, and the other Vultures quickly swarmed over Ben. Fortunately, Ben was rescued by two alternate reality Spider-Men: Old Man Spider-Man of Earth-4 and Spider-Ham of Earth-8311. Spider-Ham webbed up a "Blackie" Drago Vulture, and when Old Man Spider broke one of the Vulture's arms, Ben protested Old Man Spider's excessive force, only to watch the other Vultures devour the injured one. Old Man Spider then revealed to a confused Ben that the Inheritor Verna did not feed the Vultures much, and he further explained that none of the Vultures Ben had just battled were native to Ben's reality and that they were slaves of Earth-001's Verna.

Old Man Spider then advised that they needed to leave Earth-94 before Verna herself showed up and he attempted recruit Ben into the Spider-Army. As Ben remained reluctant, he (along with Spider-Ham and Old Man Spider) were hit by knives thrown by the Jimmy Natale Vulture that were coated with a paralytic chemical. Before the Vultures could then devour the Spider-totems, Ben managed to web the face of Jimmy Natale, causing him to accidentally spray acid onto a Noir-like Vulture's face. The two Vultures then began fighting amongst themselves as the paralyzing agent wore off, allowing Ben, Old Man Spider and Spider-Ham to web up the criminals. Spider-Ham then asked how Ben was able to move and Ben jokingly asked if Spider-Ham had ever overcome impossible odds before.

Before Ben could tell the story of his symbiotic possession, Old Man Spider suggested they leave. Ben asked if they could call the cops to apprehend the Vultures but Old Man Spider revealed that their punishment at Verna's hands would be more harsh than anything the police could go. Ben then commented that if Verna was as bad as Old Man Spider said, he couldn't leave his city unprotected but Spider-Ham assured him that Verna was only interested in Spider-totems and would leave Earth-94 alone with Ben gone. After confirming that Earth-94's Peter Parker was powerless, Ben was further assured by Old Man Spider that there would be nothing to keep Verna on Earth-94. Finally agreeing to join the multiversal Spider-Army, Ben accompanied the two Spider-totems to their Central Park base on Earth-13, where he met numerous other Spider-totems.

(Amazing Spider-Man III#9) - Ben arrived on Earth-616, where he assisted Spider-Man (Bruce Banner of Earth-70105), Earth-4's Old Man Spider and Earth-65's Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy) in rescuing Earth-616's Scarlet Spider (Kaine Parker) from the Earth-001 Inheritor Daemos. When Scarlet Spider suspected Spider-Woman-65 of being a clone, Ben removed his mask to reveal himself to be a clone. Thinking Ben to be his Ben Reilly-616, Kaine asked how, but Ben promised to explain later, remarking that they needed to retreat. Ben was then interrupted by Daemos, who killed Spider-Man-70105, forcing Ben and the others to retreat through a multiversal portal. Returning to the Spider-Army's Central Park base on Earth-13, Ben watched as Earth-13's native Cosmic Spider-Man passed Earth-982's baby Benjy Parker to his sister, Spider-Girl.

(Amazing Spider-Man III#10) - Ben watched as Earth-616's Spider-Man unmasked himself and questioned why the Spider-Army considered him some sort of "chosen one" when it came to their battle against the Earth-001's Inheritors. While the group discussed Spider-Man-616's previous battle with the Inheritor Morlun, Earth-616's Silk wondered if she shared the same connection to any of the other Spider-totems that she shared with her reality's Spider-Man, admitting to herself that she did not feel a connection to Ben or Earth-13's native Cosmic Spider-Man. As the Army discussed combining their forces with another Spider-Army they had detected across the Multiverse, Spider-Man-616 insisted Earth-65's Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy) remain behind as the Army traveled to recruit the other Army into their forces. Spider-Woman-65 asked Ben what she had done to make Spider-Man-616 insist she remain behind, and Ben nearly told her what became of Earth-616's Gwen Stacy but he stopped short and said he would explain later.

Shortly after, Ben accompanied a squad of the Spider-Army to the location of the second Spider-Army, led by a time-displaced Spider-Man (Otto Octavius) of Earth-616. The Inheritor Daemos soon located the Spider-Army and arrived to attack the group. Ben aided the Spider-Army against Daemos, killing his current body, but he returned soon after in a cloned body with his Inheritor siblings Brix and Bora. Realizing they could never win if the Inheritors would just keep returning in cloned bodies, Ben traced the signal emanating from Daemos' cloned body and opened a portal to the clone's source. Earth-1610's Black Widow then joined Ben and Earth-616's Scarlet Spider in entering the portal in an effort to stop the Inheritors from cloning themselves.

(Scarlet Spiders I#1) - After following the signal to Earth-802, Ben, Scarlet Spider and Black Widow found themselves in reality conquered by the Inheritor Jennix, and Ben warned the others to be wary of what they might encounter, only to be surprised himself when he saw the view of the city outside. Black Widow immediately suggested they get back inside to lay low, and Scarlet Spider quickly found a pair of hospital gowns that Ben and Black Widow changed into for cover. When Scarlet Spider remarked that he didn't need a gown, as he had a stealth suit, Ben was reminded of a stealth suit he had once built and admitted Scarlet Spider's suit was a lucky asset for them to have, only to stop his remark midway upon realizing his gown had an exposed rear. After avoiding a group of mind-controlled clones, the trio suspected they had arrived in a clone hatchery of sorts, and Ben and Black Widow were soon discovered.

Scarlet Spider webbed up the scientist that spotted them and, their cover exposed, Ben and Black Widow re-donned their costumes to escape the building. During the ensuing battle, Ben questioned why such a "perfect scientific paradise" would need armored guards as he took several down, but the trio's escape soon drew the attention of Earth-802's Iron Man, who had been cloned multiple times until he served Jennix. Iron Man first thought he was being tested, and Ben took off his mask and almost asked for Iron Man's assistance but Iron Man instead attacked, hitting Ben with his Uni-Beam. A stealthed Scarlet Spider took down Iron Man and aided Black Widow in getting the unconscious Ben out of the open area. Awakening two hours later in a hospital room, Ben admitted to his two allies that he had let his guard down upon seeing Iron Man, whom he knew in his own reality as a friendly face.

Ben then accompanied Scarlet Spider and Black Widow in interrogating the now unarmored Iron Man, demanding to know where Jennix grew his clones. Iron Man was uncooperative with Ben but when Scarlet Spider threatened his life, Iron Man smiled and revealed Jennix's headquarters to be Earth-802's Baxter Building. Black Widow asked why Iron Man would just willingly give them that information, and the still-smiling Iron Man admitted he was leading three spiders right into Jennix's clutches. When Iron Man asked if they really thought they'd win, Ben put his mask back on, proclaimed himself Spider-Man, and remarked that he did think they would win. Moments later, Ben admitted his allies needed a plan to cover his boast to Iron Man, and Black Widow came up with a plan to get inside the Baxter Building by disguising themselves as Iron Man escorting the other two as prisoners.

(Amazing Spider-Man III#11) - Traveling to the Baxter Building, Ben and his two allies looked at the Building from afar as Black Widow asked if they were ready. Ben replied in the affirmative and commended Black Widow on her plan before exclaiming "Go Team Clone!" A grumbling Scarlet Spider commented that they were not calling themselves that, to which Ben replied that Scarlet Spider was no fun. Scarlet Spider then reminded Ben that Spider-totems were dying and that their mission was anything but fun.

(Scarlet Spiders I#1) - Donning Iron Man's armor, Spider-Man then accompanied his allies to the Baxter Building, where Scarlet Spider and Black Widow posed as his prisoners to get inside. Once inside, Ben claimed he was escorting his prisoners to Jennix directly and when Black Widow broke free to create a diversion, Earth-802's Johnny Storm arrived, recognizing Scarlet Spider as Peter Parker (actually Parker's clone), and asked Ben (still disguised as Iron Man) what was going on.

(Scarlet Spiders I#2) - Still in his Iron Man disguise, Ben watched as Johnny Storm questioned which reality "Peter Parker" was from. Ben replied that Jennix had purposely left Johnny out of the loop, but that prompted Johnny to get suspicious. Scarlet Spider responded by going into stealth mode and attacking Johnny. Ben assisted by punching Johnny, and Scarlet Spider subsequently knocked Johnny out as Ben remarked on how horrible it looked to smash a guy's face while invisible. Scarlet Spider replied that Ben should have blasted Johnny instead, but Ben admitted he was unclear on how to work the Iron Man armor's weapons. Scarlet Spider then suggested Ben ditch the Iron Man armor in case Jennix had a failsafe inside that would fly Ben directly into Jennix's clutches, to which Ben joked that Scarlet Spider wanted to be the only one with a cool suit.

As Ben was changing, the two were confronted by security guards. Scarlet Spider made quick work of them, however, and the duo escaped up an elevator shaft. After communicating with Black Widow, who informed them where the clone banks were, Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider forced a scientist to allow them into the clone banks, where they found thousands of clones of Jennix and the other Inheritors. Realizing they would need to destroy the unused clone bodies without killing everyone inside the Baxter Building, Ben worked with Black Widow via communicators while Scarlet Spider took out the security outside the clone banks. Returning to Ben, Scarlet Spider insisted Ben had to see what he had found, and he led both Ben and their captive scientist in a room housing Jennix's failed clones. Upon learning from the scientist what they were looking at, Scarlet Spider, feeling as if he were a failed clone of his own reality's Peter Parker, grew angry and smashed one of the clone containers, prompting Ben to warn Scarlet Spider that he was making their mission harder. Jennix then sent a projection into the room, revealing to Ben and Scarlet Spider that he had constantly failed at cloning Spider-totems for him to feed on before admitting his intent to study the cloned Spider-totems Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider.

(Scarlet Spiders I#3) - When Jennix appeared in-person, Spider-Man joked that he expected Jennix to be bigger before asking Scarlet Spider if he wanted to do the good cop/bad cop routine. Spider-Man then shot web into Jennix's face, and Scarlet Spider followed by knocking Jennix through the wall of the Baxter Building. Jennix recovered quickly and proclaimed himself Inheritor of all reality as Spider-Man caught up to the battle by dropping a clone container onto the Inheritor. Defeating Jennix, Scarlet Spider went in to kill Jennix, but Ben asked Scarlet Spider to stop. Althogh Jennix announced that he would not be slaughtered like an animal, Scarlet Spider nonetheless impaled Jennix with his arm spikes, shocking Ben. Coming to his senses and realizing he had gone too far, Scarlet Spider prepared to regain control of his rage as Jennix returned in a cloned body, only to be incinerated by Black Widow, who was controlling a hacked security blaster from afar. Reminding Black Widow that they don't kill, Ben asked Black Widow to shut down all security but Jennix returned yet again in another cloned body.

Assisting Scarlet Spider, Ben webbed Jennix and flung him into some of the security blasters but Jennix returned to the fight, dislocating Ben's arm. Seriously injured, Ben fought through his pain to protect Scarlet Spider, and Black Widow soon joined in the battle when her own fight with Earth-802's Johnny Storm erupted into the clone banks. Jennix responded by hurling Spider-Man at Black Widow, who noted that Ben looked like he had been through a blender. Weakly replying that Cuisanart was a funnier word, Ben felt proud when Black Widow went to help Scarlet Spider and thought back on his life, reminiscing on how doing the right thing had always led to victory for him. Gathering his strength, Ben grabbed one of the Jennix's security blasters and threatened to blow up the facility, thereby stopping the signal that would allow the Inheritors' consciousnesses to download into cloned bodies.

Terrified of a permanent death, Jennix followed Ben to the roof of the Baxter Building. Knowing an angry Jennix was right behind him, Ben communicated to Black Widow his plans to blow up the signal receiver, commending Black Widow on her heroism and asking Black Widow to tell Scarlet Spider to crack a joke every once in a while. Knowing what Ben was intending, Black Widow tried to talk Ben out of his plan, but when Jennix arrived, Ben set off an explosion that destroyed the signal receiver and the top floors of the Baxter Building. As he perished in the explosion along with Jennix, Ben Reilly thought about how there might have been a way for him to make it out of the situation alive like he had so many other times in his life.

Scarlet Spider flew into a rage at the death of Ben and despite Black Widow trying to calm him down, Scarlet Spider teleported himself to Earth-001 to kill the Inheritors. Black Widow looked over the wreckage one last time before teleporting away herself as Ben's tattered Spider-Man mask blew in the wind on a piece of the rubble.

Earth-94's Spider-Man (Ben Reilly) appeared in both Amazing Spider-Man III#9 and Spider-Verse Team-Up I#1, both of which were released on shelves on November 5, 2014 and both of which have a cover/indicia date of January, 2015. Spider-Verse Team-Up I#1 chronologically takes place first but the Spider-Geddon Handbook (2018) confirms his official first appearance to be Amazing Spider-Man III#9.

A Spider-totem resembling the Ben Reilly Spider-Man appears in the first story of Spider-Verse I#1 (2015) but this appearance does not fit into the Spider-Verse storyline continuity anywhere unless this Spider-Man is an alternate Ben Reilly Spider-Man not from Earth-94 (such as Earth-199606's Spider-Man or Earth-99315's Spider-Man, for example). However, in this appearance, we also see members of both Spider-UK's Spider-Army and Superior Spider-Man's Spider-Army, suggesting the appearance MUST occur after the two groups combine into one in Amazing Spider-Man III#10. If that's the case and it IS an alternate counterpart of the Ben Reilly Spider-Man then it must also be an alternate counterpart to Scarlet Spider (Kaine) as well since immediately after the two Armies combine into one, they are attacked by Inheritors and both Ben Reilly Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider (Kaine) teleport off on their own, at which point the Scarlet Spiders mini-series occurs and in which Spider-Man-94 is killed. So, if this is an appearance of an alternate Ben (or Peter in that particular costume) then my vote for which alternate Scarlet Spider (Kaine) could be the one in Spider-Verse I#1 would be Earth-14110's Scarlet Spider (who may or may not be the same Scarlet Spider that later appears in the Spider-Man Unlimited video game). The costume matches and that particular alternate Scarlet Spider did already exist prior to the Spider-Verse comic storyline.

While it was stated that Ben was a clone of his reality's Peter Parker, it was not 100% confirmed who cloned him. Given how much of his history mirrored Earth-616, it seems likely that he was cloned by the Jackal (Miles Warren) and that most of his unseen history mirrors that of his Earth-616 counterpart up until he took over the role of Spider-Man from Peter Parker.
