Powers/Abilities: The collective arachnid intelligence known as Spiders-Man is a hive-mind swarm of mutated spiders, frequently containing themselves within a costume; he has superhuman strength and agility when in human shape, and can produce organic webbing. He can also launch swarms of spiders at his foes, biting and paralyzing them; his various spiders can act independently, allowing him to operate in multiple locations - and even multiple alternate Earths - simultaneously, as there appears to be no distance at which he loses contact with the collective. He also possesses the memories and some of the personality of Peter Parker, although these are sometimes overridden by his extreme hunger and predatory instincts.

History:
(Vault of Spiders#2/2 (fb))
- On Earth-11580, where New York City had come to
be known as the horror-tinged "Cruel York", Horizon Labs scientist Max
Modell bombarded thousands of spiders with radiation to alter their DNA.
(Vault of Spiders#2/2 (fb)) - Peter Parker toured Modell's facility with his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. Observing the pit of spiders, he accidentally fell in, and was devoured by the ravenous arachnids. In doing so, however, the spiders absorbed Parker's memories and personality, forming a hive consciousness. Imbued with Parker's sense of responsibility, the spiders became the costumed crime-fighting vigilante, Spiders-Man.
(Vault of Spiders#2/2) - On the night designated "Goblin Night", when the Goblin Queen demanded sacrifices, Gwen Stacy was attacked by the Green Goblin. Spiders-Man defended her, earning the ire of the Green Goblin and his compatriots, Hobgoblin, Demogoblin, and Jack O'Lantern. He knocked the three Goblins aside, but Jack O'Lantern slashed his back open with his scythe - only to realize Spiders-Man's true nature as he was swarmed with spiders. Terrified, the others fled. Gwen tried to offer Spiders-Man help, as they'd been working on a way to restore him at Horizon - but Spiders-Man knew he wasn't really Parker, and if he could become him again, he knew Gwen would never forget the monster he had been. He told her to stay away from him, and left his costume behind, melting into the night.
(Spider-Geddon#3) - Along with a number of other multiversal spider-totems, Spiders-Man was recruited by Earth-616's so-called Superior Spider-Man (Otto Octavius) and brought aboard Earth-???'s Spider-Man's giant robot Leopardon to battle the renewed threat of the vampiric Inheritors. Spiders-Man was particularly interested in eating the Inheritors after defeating them. They arrived at Earth-616's New U headquarters just in time to save the other spider-totems from the Inheritors, who were using the facility's cloning equipment to resurrect their patriarch. They disabled the cloning systems, then escaped with the others on Leopardon. Still preoccupied with food - even the youthful spider-powered Petey, who Spiders-Man speculated would be "like veal" - the arachnid collective was taken aside by Earth-44145's spider-powered Norman Osborn, who planned to go rogue - sacrificing Earth-616 to serve a trap for the Inheritors!
(Spider-Geddon#4) -The group retreated to Earth-13, where Osborn clashed with Octavius over leadership. Only Spiders-Man sided with Osborn, and the two departed via interdimensional gateway to Loomworld, former home of the Inheritors. While Osborn examined the Web of Life and Destiny, Spiders-Man busied himself eating the corpse of Karn, the late Master Weaver. Eventually, Osborn rigged the Web to explode, but not before Spiders-Man sent his component spiders across the web, traveling to multiple Earths to see which ones he and Osborn could exploit.
(Superior Spider-Man II#9) - On Earth-616's San Francisco, one of Spiders-Man's spiders spied on Octavius (now posing as "Elliot Tolliver" and his lover Emma Hernandez, then reported back to Osborn, who was plotting against his rival.
(Superior Spider-Man II#10 (fb)) - Several of Spiders-Man's spiders sent out information revealing Tolliver and Spider-Man's true identity as Octavius from an internet cafe in Oakland.
(Superior Spider-Man II#10) - Spiders-Man spied on Octavius and Max Modell at Horizon University, only to be discovered by Octavius. Spiders-Man tried to escape to another Earth, but Octavius used a wave disruption field to trap his consciousness in a single spider. Under duress, he revealed what little he knew of Osborn's plot against Octavius.
(Superior Spider-Man II#11) - Escaping in Osborn's attack on Horizon University, Spiders-Man joined Osborn in attacking Octavius' allies, the Night Shift. Unaffected by her hypnotic dance, he quickly overwhelmed Dansen Macabre while Osborn handled Digger and Skein.
(Superior Spider-Man II#12) - Octavius, restored to being Doctor Octopus via a deal with Mephisto, attacked Spiders-Man with his miniature Octo-Bots, overwhelming the gestalt entity while he defeated Osborn.
Comments: Created by Cullen Bunn, Mark Bagley, and Andrew Hennessy.
This guy is a hoot, and also horrifying.
Although Spider-Geddon#3 was published before Vault of Spiders#2, Cullen Bunn has mentioned that his appearance in the latter was written first, so I've listed Bunn and Bagley as his creators.
I'm not sure how his web-shooters work - does he just have two really big spiders pointed abdomen-out positioned at his "wrists"?

(Vault of Spiders#2/2 (fb)) - A resident of the horror-tinged "Cruel York", Peter Parker took a tour of Horizon Labs with his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. He was devoured by the spiders, but they absorbed his consciousness and sense of responsibility, becoming the collective entity Spiders-Man.
