History:
(Free Comic Book Day 2022: Avengers/X-Men (fb) - BTS) - Circa just
short of 1,000,000 B.C., a species of prehistoric primate mutated to
gain rudimentary psychic abilities including telekinesis and telepathy.
With their newfound abilities, the "thinky monkeys" unknowingly
developed a hive mind.
(Free Comic Book Day 2022: Avengers/X-Men (fb)) -
Shortly after, Eternals Uranos and Druig tricked the Asgardian Odin
into visiting the "thinky monkeys" by promising Odin drink. After
seeing the "thinky monkeys," Odin asked about his promised drink and
wondered why he had been brought to see the monkeys. Admitting to Odin
that Druig had lied about the drink, Uranos explained that they had
summoned Odin there to make Odin's Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C. aware of
the monkeys' existence and the Eternals' plan to annihilate the mutant
species. Finding the Eternals' plan harsh, Odin asked what possible
threat the monkeys could pose and reminded the Eternals that the
monkeys were simply mutants, not Deviants. Uranos explained that the
monkeys' hive mind was a genetic technology that could not be put into
the hands of lesser beings and the longer the hive mind existed, the
more powerful it would become, further suggesting a strong enough hive
mind could destroy the world.
When Uranos then suggested that mutants could also be
Deviants and that some children should be smothered in their beds, Odin
expressed misgivings but Uranos explained that their informing of Odin
about the monkeys was not a request for Odin's permission to slaughter
the monkeys. Uranos then explained that destroying deviancy was one of
their unwavering principles and asked Odin if he planned to war with
the Eternals over the fate of the "thinky monkeys." After a quick
thought, Odin decided that he would allow the Eternals' activities if
Druig brought him the promised drink, remarking that the "thinky
monkeys" were not worth going to war over. Odin subsequently drank
Eternal mead as Uranos and Druig set fire to the "thinky monkeys"'
habitat, killing all of them.
