TIME MACHINE
Classification: Terrestrial technology (time travel)
Creator: Charles Czarkowski
Possessors: Possibly the Time Variance Authority;
formerly Charles Czarkowski
Location: Presumably the Time Variance Authority's base within Null-TimeFirst Appearance: She-Hulk
II#1 (December, 2005)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: Czarkowski's time machine can send beings (and/or
presumably objects) forward and backward in time, apparently not
diverging or traveling to alternate realities.
The time machine's range is unrevealed, but it was shown to be able to
transport someone (at least) 22 days into his own past.
History: (She-Hulk
II#2 (fb) - BTS) - Charles Czarkowski discovered the true secret of time travel, sending not
just messages or going to alternate timelines, but sending people back
through their own timeline. Presumably this allowed completion of his time machine.
(She-Hulk
II#2 (fb) - BTS) <22 days before the trial in #2> - Czarkowski
received a call via his Chrono-Phone. Though the audio was somewhat
garbled, a man he did not recognize seemed to be telling Czarkowski
that he was coming from the future in 6 hours and would kill him unless
Czarkowski killed the man first.
(She-Hulk
II#1 (fb) - BTS / She-Hulk
II#2 (fb) - BTS) - When the man from the Chrono-Phone call appeared before him on Manhattan's 7th Avenue, Czarkowski
shot the man in the back. The shooting was captured on film, and it appeared as if Czarkowski had shot a defenseless man in the back in broad daylight in front
of a dozen eyewitnesses.
(She-Hulk
II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Czarkowski was charged with attempted murder (as the man he had shot was kept alive on life support).
(She-Hulk II#2 (fb) - BTS) - The doctor (see comments)
found that the victim's photograph/facial features, fingerprints,
and dental records failed to show up in any
database he and/or his associates could find, and his DNA was unlike
anything the medical
examiner had ever seen. The victim was classified as a "John Doe,"
because his true identity could not be determined. (She-Hulk
II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Augustus Pugliese got Czarkowski as a client for
himself and Jennifer Walters, his case qualifying for their superhuman
law division of their firm, Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, & Holliway
(GLK&H), as Czarkowski had access to time-travel devices.
(She-Hulk
II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Contacting the Time Variance Authority (TVA), GLK&H gained approval to bring jurors from the past, as they would not have already been biased by
media portrayals of Czarkowski as a murderer.
(She-Hulk II#2 - BTS) - The next day (22
days after the shooting), the trial began. Jen Walters called Justice Peace to
the stand, and Peace confirmed that the DNA of "John Doe" was
consistent with someone who had gone through a scrambler, a device that
scrambles a time-traveler's DNA, facial features, and anything else
that could be used to identify him or her, which prevented corruption
of the timestream in the event that the time-traveler was discovered in
his or her own past. Walters concluded that this was
proof that "John Doe" was a time-traveler.
When Jen called Czarkowski himself to the stand, she asked why someone
would kill him at that particular point in
time (rather than as an infant, etc.), Czarkowski answered as set off a
device to summon a robot from his past to allow a diversion to
facilitate his escape. He answered that he had the day before the
shooting he had cracked the true secret of time travel, sending not
just messages or going to alternate timelines, but sending people back
through their own timeline, and that if he had been killed even a day
before, it would have killed time travel itself (see comments).
Czarkowski then remotely summoned his robot from the past, and he escaped in the ensuing chaos.
Arriving at Czarko Industries, Czarkowski set some random coordinates
on his time machine and used his scrambler so that the TVA would
not be able to find him. Before departing, he sent a message to his
past self, warning him of the impending attempt on his life. As he left
the message, however, he realized that his scrambled self had the appearance
of the man he had shot, and, in his shocked and confused state, verbalized
that he was the one to kill Charles Czarkowski. After the message
concluded and was sent., Czarkowski realized what he had done, and he
prepared to send another message to clarify things to his past
self.
However, Justice Peace then
stopped him, intending for him to fulfill the temporal paradox. To
complete this, Peace sent the scrambled Czarkowski twenty-two days into the
past, and he emerged on 7th Avenue a short distance in front of his
past self. The time-traveling, scrambled Czarkowski was unable to
act before the past Czarkowski recognized him as his seeming would-be
killer and then shot him in the back.

Thanks to Loki, Kevin Garcia, and others for helping to fill out the
list of time machines in clarifications...and I'm sure there are many
more to add.
