VIBRA-GUN
Classification: Terrestrial weapon
Creator: Unrevealed, probably Hydra/A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics)
User/Possessors: Baron Zemo (Heinrich Zemo), briefly Captain
America (Steve Rogers)
First Appearance: Avengers I#7 (August, 1964)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Vibra-Gun
sends amplified vibrational waves that explosively shake apart targets.
Easily used, it has dual eye-scopes for aiming. It appears to take
several seconds to charge up and makes a large roaring sound when
firing. It stands about 3' high and is mounted on its own three-wheeled
dolly for transport.
History:
(Avengers I#7 (fb) - BTS) - After his defeat at the
hands of the Avengers, notably Captain America, Baron Zemo fled to the
jungles of South America and quickly took control of the domain of an
indigenous people, occupying their palace (largely made of wood). Zemo
set up defensive traps and at some point gained the destructive
Vibra-Gun.
(Avengers I#7) - Captain America landed in the jungle
to attack Zemo, secretly part of a plan to separate the Avengers by
Enchantress and Executioner. Captain America overcame several traps set
up by Zemo, but was confronted by Zemo and the Vibra-Gun. The
indigenous followers readied to fire upon the hero, but he used his
strength to bend a palm tree so that it swung and scattered the men.
Captain America ran up and took control of the Vibra-Gun, using it to
demolish the palace. Baron Zemo fled in his escape rocket plane with
Captain America stealthily clung to its side, leaving the Vibra-Gun
behind.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Chic Stone.
So what happened to the Vibra-Gun afterward? Did Cap take a small key part so that it couldn't be used again? Was it kept as an unserviced remnant by the South American tribe? Dismantled by an Avengers clean-up team? Or parts scavenged by A.I.M.?
