X-Men Legacy#254 (October, 2011);
(identified)
X-Men Legacy#255 (November, 2011)
Powers/Abilities: As a Shi'ar, Gemet possesses both mammalian and avian characteristics, with feathers instead of hair.
Though he didn't particularly demonstrate it, he presumably has superhuman strength (lifting perhaps 1 ton) and endurance.
He carried and was experienced
with firing a hand-blaster weapon that could fire lethal blasts (it may
or may not have had less-lethal settings).
He had access to powerful Shi'ar military weapons (including outlawed weaponry of the Anathema Vault, such as the Null Cascade), various forms of transportation and analytic technology, notably an imager, which was high-tech eyewear that allowed viewing at great distance as well as computer identification of those in the field of view and various other forms of analysis.
Height: Unrevealed (approximately 6'3"-6'4"; he was a little taller than both Gambit and Magneto, both of whom are 6'2")History:
(X-Men Legacy#254 (fb) - BTS) - Gemet was a Shi'ar military commander working aboard the immense Gul Damar Space Station.
(X-Men Legacy#256 (fb) / X-Men Legacy#257 (fb) - BTS) - The maddened renegade Grad Nan Holt Friendless took control of the Grad Nan Holt on Gul Damar, leading them to war against the Shi'ar.
(X-Men Legacy#257 (fb) - BTS) - The battle apparently damaged Gul Damar's gravitic flux generator.
(X-Men Legacy#255 (fb) - BTS) -
Answering a distress call on Gul Damar, the Starjammers (Rachel Summers/Grey, Havok, Polaris, Korvus Rookshir) ...
(X-Men Legacy#257 (fb) - BTS) -
...crashed into Gul Damar's hull due to the local gravity going haywire and then...
(X-Men Legacy#255 (fb) - BTS) -
...walked into a civil war.
(X-Men Legacy#250 (fb) - BTS) -
The Starjammers battled the Grad Nan Holt within Gul Damar.
(X-Men Legacy#255 (fb) - BTS / X-Men Legacy#256 (fb) - BTS) - Friendless psychically incapacitated Rachel and then placed the other Starjammers under his control.
(X-Men
Legacy#254 (fb) - BTS) - Fighting alongside the Grad Nan Holt, the
Starjammers did grave damage to the space station (notably to its gravitic flux generator) and slew many Shi'ar.
(X-Men Legacy#254 (fb) -
BTS) - Sovel Redhand
led his crew (Glitter, Horse, Jat) to the damaged Gul Damar, seeking to
salvage a large amount of technology during the existing
upheavals. However, the space station's distorted gravity caused the crew to lose control,
presumably crashing the ship.
(X-Men Legacy#254 (fb) -
BTS) - The nearby inner planets were pulled into their sun, a result of the
damage to Gul Damar's gravitic flux generator
causing the sun's gravity field to spike.
(X-Men Legacy#253 - BTS) - The X-Man Rogue -- having absorbed
a teleporter's power from Legion/David Haller -- locked on to Rachel's location and transported herself, Frenzy, Gambit, and Magneto thousands of light years to reach Rachel Grey. Rogue was split from her allies, who arrived on a different part of the Gul Damar space station.
(X-Men
Legacy#254 / X-Men Legacy#254 (fb) - BTS)
- The Grad Nan Holt ambushed a Shi'ar transport including Commander
Gemet, and they captured a number of Shi'ar (including technician B'ket
Imstari), teleporting them away.
(X-Men Legacy#254 (fb) -
BTS) - After Magneto drove off the other Grad Nan Holt, Gemet
mentioned to his troops his suspicion that -- based on their similar
skin coloration and body plan -- this new group might be from Earth,
same as the force wielders allied with the Grad Nan Holt (the
Starjammers, although he did not know their names).
(X-Men Legacy#254) - Gemet activated a translator and then thanked Magneto, asking if they were loyal to the Shi'ar Empire. Magneto explained that they from Earth on unrelated business, leading Gemet to note his confirmed suspicion and to reference those allied with the Grad Nan Holt. Magneto asked Gemet to describe these other humans.
(X-Men Legacy#254 (fb) -
BTS) - Gemet's description confirmed the Starjammers' presence.
(X-Men
Legacy#255) -
One of Gemet's troops (possibly H'ral) reported that they had located
the Grad Nan Holt's base. Taking the imager, Gemet confirmed this to be
the same clan and sept that had attacked his group, and he appreciated
that this cargo bay must be their main beachhead in ochre radial; he
also noted some anomalous readings, presumably from a race that was not
in the imaging database. He then instructed Lt. H'ral to bring up the
semi-portables and -- at Magneto's query -- he explained that they were
going to "blast those rebel scum into loose atoms." When Gambit grabbed
him by the shoulder and asked if he was mad, Gemet advised him that he
was a commissioned officer in the armies of the Majestor Shi'ar...and
that he would thank him to remove that hand. Gambit argued that they
had seen the Grad Nan Holt take Shi'ar prisoners and that such an
assault would kill his own people.
Gemet countered that service to the Empire
demanded sacrifice, and Magneto considered that that was so when
necessary but that a futile sacrifice only aided the enemy. Gemet asked
what was his point, and Magneto suggested that he and his allies could
go in first to negotiate on their behalf. Levitating a ship into the
air -- leading a shocked Gemet to proclaim "G-gods!"
-- Magneto advised him that their great power could be used to avoid
pointless bloodshed and that if they failed to secure the release of
the prisoners, the option of brute force was still open to them.
Clearly intimidated, Gemet agreed that there was merit to this course
of action, and he noted that he would confer with his superiors and
bring him an answer shortly.
(X-Men Legacy#255 (fb) -
BTS) - Gemet's superiors apparently approved this action.
(X-Men Legacy#255 - BTS) - By the time Magneto, Frenzy, and Gambit confronted the Grad Nan Holt, the other prisoners beside Imstari had already been executed.
(X-Men Legacy#255 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Gemet fell under the mental control of Friendless.
(X-Men Legacy#255) - Watching via the imager, Gemet noted that Magneto had gotten them talking, although he wondered about what. H'ral asked permission to make an observation and then explained that the walls of the cargo bay were already damaged as they had taken some very heavy hits a while back and that a full salvo would probably breach through what's left of the shielding. Gemet asked him if he meant that this would punch through to vacuum and empty them all into space, and when Lt. H'ral confirmed, Gemet told him, "Duly noted...tell the gunners to stand ready."
After Friendless forces Imstari to stab himself
in the chest, Gemet ordered his troops to fire all guns on maximum
aperture, damaging the hull.
Comments: Created by Mike Cary, Steve Kurth, and Jay Leisten.
Gemet's irrational and traitorous
actions were all apparently done while he was under the control of
Friendless. Although I did not see Gemet in #258, I don't see any
reason to think that he did not survive Gul Damar's transport to
Earth's atmosphere, but his subsequent fate, including any judgment of
his activities, is unrevealed.
And, this profile concludes the
characters, race, and technology from the two stories with Sovel
Redhand's group (not including Friendless, who is being held for an
upcoming special event). Onward and upward!

. . (X-Men Legacy#257) - When a panicked Shi'ar soldier questioned their decaying orbit, that they were falling into the sun and had to act now, Friendless spoke through Gemet, telling him that killing the Terrans would save the station and that no loyal Shi'ar would question that. Announcing that these questions meant the soldier was not loyal, Gemet then had a pair of soldiers take that soldier into custody and instructed them to kill him if he spoke again. Gemet then told the others that they must not flinch from their duty, no matter where it may take them. --X-Men Legacy#257 |
