First Appearance: Original Sin Annual#1 (December, 2014)
Powers/Abilities: Hana had no superhuman powers.
She was an experienced waitress,
and she was loyal to her lover, holding out hope for his return long
after his departure.
History:
(Original Sin Annual#1 (fb) - BTS) - Hana was in love with a man named
Sam, and she worked as a waitress at his restaurant, Sam's diner.
Sam disappeared under unrevealed circumstances (see comments).
Hana held out hope that Sam would return some day, and she continued to
work as a waitress at Sam's diner (she may have even been the owner by
that point).
After some years
in the (presumably) Rocky Mountain base of Eben Stafford (the "Man on
the Wall," who protected humanity from alien threats), Woodrow McCord
finally came down off the mountain.
In the first few nights, Woody drunkenly
told stories around town about what was going on in the mountains, but
after awhile, Woody realized that he should not speak about those
things.
McCord took an interest in Hana, and he eventually kissed her, but she told him not to do that again as she held out hopes that Sam would return home.
(Original Sin Annual#1 (fb)) <October 3, 1943> - As locals watched Stafford's rocket ship take off, Woody ate at Sam's, and Hana noted that he really must have seen some strange days if a UFO didn't rate a glance from him. When Woody feigned ignorance to Cubby's questions about what was going on in the mountains, Cubby tried to provoke a fight despite Hana's request to the contrary, but one of Cubby's friends pulled him away.
Later, as Hana went out to dump the trash, she asked why Woody was still out there (and drinking whiskey).
Woody apologized, noting that he
spent so much time away from people that he had forgotten how to behave
around them.
Hana sat down next to Woody, but
when he tried to kiss her, she stopped him, reminding him that she had
told him not to do that again.
When he asked her
if she really thought her Sam was ever going to come home, she got mad
and asked him if his drunken stories about secret spacemen really were
true, what good were they doing the people down on Earth.
Storming back into Sam's, Hana told Woody not to talk to her about rocket ships and outer space, and if he couldn't do that, not to talk to her at all.
As Woody dropped his head, dejected, another ship flew past in the sky, unnoticed by him (see comments).
(Original Sin Annual#1 (fb) - BTS) - Aboard an alien space station, McCord tried to warn his attackers back, but -- as they continued to advance -- he recalled Hana's questioning what good his stories were doing humanity, and he opened fire, slaying the aliens challenging him.
Comments: Created by Jason Latour and Enis Cisic.
There are a lot of things unclear
about Hana and her relationship with Sam, and her feelings toward Woody
McCord.
Were Sam and Hana married or just lovers?
What happened to Sam?
She obviously would talk
to any customers, but she seemed to be fairly friendly with Woody. Was
she attracted him but maintaining her loyalty to Sam?
In
Original Sin Annual#1, as McCord hangs his head after being rejected by
Hana, a ship flies through the sky, unseen by him. Was that the Entari
ship, or was it Stafford's ship returning?
See the comments for McCord's profile for further information/images.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Hana should be distinguished from:
Sam's diner was a small restaurant circa 1943 a short distance from the
Rocky Mountain base of Eben Stafford. It was presumably owned by Sam who was the lover and possibly the husband of Hana until he disappeared under unrevealed circumstances (see comments). Hana worked as a waitress at Sam's diner. It was frequented by a group of locals, including Cubby, as well as Woodrow McCord when he came down from Stafford's base where he worked. --Original Sin Annual#1 Note: With Sam missing, the diner was likely owned by Hana if they were married. If not, who knows? |
When Cubby asked Woody to tell his friends what
was going on in the mountains, noting that it could mean a lot for the
US government, Woody feigned ignorance. This nearly caused a fight as Cubby felt that Woody was trying to make him look foolish, but one of Cubby's friends pulled him away. --Original Sin Annual#1Note: Cubby and his three friends are also seen in both images in the Sam's diner sub-profile. It looks as if Cubby is carrying a flask of liquor, so he presumably had a few belts in him when he confronted McCord. |
