History:
(Avengers VI#1.1) - When the Avengers held a press conference to
announce their newest members, Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch,
Laura Marshall interrupted the conference and announced the new trio of
recruits to be terrorists. An angry Quicksilver demanded to know who
said such accusations but Captain America reminded Quicksilver that
Laura was free to speak her mind before asking Laura Marshall to
elaborate. Introducing herself as being from Cable-1, Laura Marshall
reminded the public that just a month prior, Quicksilver had been part
of Magneto's terrorist cell of mutants, prompting Cap to assure Laura
that both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were merely pawns. Not
convinced, Laura questioned how Cap could assure the public and then
asked what the Avengers' process for vetting new members was, further
asking why the two former villains were suddenly acceptable members.
Laura was then interrupted by another reporter asking about Hawkeye and
Laura watched as the reporter asked about Hawkeye's bravado and whether
he was bucking for Captain America's job. After reminding the reporters
that each new member knew the importance of cohesion and discipline,
Captain America asked for the next question and Laura asked whether
Scarlet Witch had taken an oath to subjugate humanity and whether
Scarlet Witch honored her oaths, prompting Scarlet Witch to angrily
storm off the stage. Smiling, Laura asked Captain America how the new
recruits would do against bad guys if they weren't able to face a few
reporters. Following the press conference, Quicksilver visited Scarlet
Witch's room and asked what she did with her unspent anger, as it was
all he do to contain himself against the arrogant Laura Marshall.
Comments: Created by Mark Waid, Barry Kitson and Mark Farmer.
Avengers VI#1.1 takes place during the events of Avengers I#16 (1965).
A reporter somewhat resembling Laura Marshall is seen but not identified in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes I#8 (2005) so it's possible she has an unidentified appearance there, but the reporter is standing next to a van with "Channel 7" logos on it. The hair also appears more of a dark brown than the black of Laura Marshall's hair. Therefore, I'd still place Avengers VI#1.1 as Laura's first appearance but it could be up for debate...
Laura's height and weight were impossible to
approximate, as she was never seen next to a character whose height and
weight were officially determined.
