Powers/Abilities: Susanoo possesses the conventional powers of the Amatsu-Kami (Gods of Japan) including superhuman strength, speed, longevity and durability, although his physical strength and durability surpasses that of the average male Shinto god. He is a virtual immortal who ages extremely slowly upon reaching adulthood, and cannot die by conventional means. Susanoo is immune to all terrestrial diseases and is resistant to conventional injury. If Susanoo is wounded, his godly life force will enable him to recover at a superhuman rate. It would take an injury of such magnitude that it incinerates Susanoo or disperses a major portion of his bodily molecules to cause him to die. Susanoo's flesh and bone are about two times denser than similar human tissue, contributing to the god's superhuman strength and weight. He also has limited mystical skills and controls aspects of the storm and the sea; once, when mortally wounded, Susanoo's body "bled" gurgling sea water.
Susanoo is a highly-skilled hand-to-hand combatant, and often wields the powerful Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi (a.k.a. "Grasscutter Sword"), a legendary Japanese sword regarded as the most potent weapon among the Amatsu-Kami.

History:
(Thor & Hercules: Encyclopaedia Mythologica#1) - According to ancient myths, the Amatsu-Kami originated in the otherdimensional realm known as Ama, where they had lived for seven generations. After many of the demonic Elder Gods were purged from Earth by the Demogorge, the interdimensional barriers separating Ama and Earth were weakened and the Amatsu-Kami known as Izanagi was sent to the Earth realm where he met Izanami, an aspect of the primordial Earth Mother Gaea. Together, Izanagi and Izanami ventured into a formless world and dipped Izanagi's Jeweled Spear into the seemingly endless void, forming the islands of Japan. The divine couple then descended to the newly formed land masses and began to populate them with lesser Amatsu-Kami, including Susanoo and his brethren, who later came to be worshipped as gods by the inhabitants of Japan.
(Myth) - Upon reaching maturity, Susanoo slew the eight-headed, eight-tailed dragon Yamata-no-Orochi. During the battle, Susanoo found the legendary sword Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi (a.k.a. "Grasscutter Sword") inside one of Yamata no Orochi's tails. Susanoo eventually bestowed the sword to his sister, the sun goddess Amaterasu.
(Chaos War: God Squad#1 (fb) - BTS) - Centuries ago, in the Aegean Sea, Susanoo met and began an affectionate relationship with the naiad who would one day become Venus. Susanoo and the naiad would spend mornings together on the sea, and she would sing to him as the sun rose. However, Susanoo and the naiad eventually parted ways under undisclosed circumstances.
(Chaos War#3) - Mikaboshi, the Shinto god of evil and embodiment of the primordial void that existed before creation, gained immense power by conquering and enslaving other pantheons of extraterrestrial gods and then attacked the gods of Earth in an attempt to return the universe to a state of formless oblivion. During the course of this war, Mikaboshi was successful in defeating and enslaving several of the Amatsu-Kami, including Susanoo, Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, and Inari.
(Chaos War: God Squad#1) - The "God Squad" (Sersi, Silver Surfer/Norrin Radd, Son of Satan/Daimon Hellstrom, Venus/naiad), an alliance of beings straddling the line between god and mortal (and thus somehow protected from the means Mikaboshi had used to defeat other gods and mortals) were unknowingly lured to Takamagahara (the Plain of High Heaven) within Ama by the enslaved Inari under the pretense of assisting the surviving Amatsu-Kami in a desperate final effort to defeat Mikaboshi. Upon the God Squad's arrival in Takamagahara, Susanoo reconnected with Venus and assisted his brother Tsukuyomi in explaining their plan to banish Mikaboshi to Yomi, the Shinto underworld, where he had been imprisoned by the Amatsu-Kami for centuries before. However, upon arrival in the temple that housed a gateway to Yomi, Susanoo and his brethren revealed that they were under Mikaboshi's control and attacked the God Squad. Susanoo attacked Venus, but was soon mortally wounded by Son of Satan's netharanium trident. In his dying moments, Susanoo regained control of his senses and implored Venus to defeat Mikaboshi.
(Chaos War#5 - BTS) - Susanoo and the fallen Amatsu-Kami were presumably restored to life when the Greek demigod Hercules entrapped Mikaboshi in a sealed-off pocket continuum and sacrificed his newly-acquired omnipotence to reverse the damage that Mikaboshi inflicted upon the universe.
