"SOLARI"
Real Name: Unrevealed
Identity/Class: Cosmically-empowered extraterrestrial (16th Century)
Occupation: Herald of Galactus
Group Membership: None
Affiliations: Galactus (Galan)
Enemies: Galileo Galilei
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Mobile throughout intergalactic space
First Appearance: S.H.I.E.L.D.#1 (June 2010)
Powers/Abilities: : Like prior and later heralds of Galactus, "Solari" presumably had access to the power cosmic, either granting powers or enhancing ones already present to incredible levels. "Solari" could fly, presumably at interstellar speeds, and could presumably survive unaided in space. "Solari" glowed brightly while flying, and since most other heralds have had powers themed around one elemental force, it seems probable that "Solari" had sun-based powers of heat and light.
Height: Over 6' (by estimation)
Weight: Unrevealed
Eyes: Unrevealed
Hair: Unrevealed
History:
(S.H.I.E.L.D.#1 (fb) - BTS)
- An unidentified, presumably extraterrestrial individual, was chosen by
Galactus to become his new herald and find him planets to be eaten. This
being, "Solari," was presumably cosmically-empowered, either granting
them light-related powers or enhancing existing light powers.
After an unrevealed period of service "Solari" accompanied Galactus to Earth in 1582 A.D., local time. The astronomer and Brotherhood of the Shield member Galileo Galilei detected their approach and began preparing a defense against them.
(S.H.I.E.L.D.#1) - As "Solari" flew over Rome and a towering Galactus strode towards it, Galileo brought out his nearly completed Creation Engine and aimed it at them.
(S.H.I.E.L.D.#3 - BTS) - As Galactus took time to look down on the city, Galileo hurried to make final adjustments to his machine. With "Solari" having apparently moved to a safe distance in anticipation of Galactus initiating feeding, the world eater began consuming energy from the planet below him, causing a massive tectonic upheaval that uprooted nearby buildings in a growing radius. Galileo opened fire with his device, striking the entity with a massive blast of energy.
This succeeded in forcing Galactus to retreat
from Earth, presumably taking "Solari" with him. At some unrevealed
later juncture, "Solari" left Galactus' service under unrevealed
circumstances.
Comments: Created by Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver.
The character in question isn't named, and even in the script for S.H.I.E.L.D.#1 is identified only as a new herald of Galactus that we've not seen before. They aren't depicted in S.H.I.E.L.D.#3, but since Galactus was showing no concerns the herald was presumably still okay, just off-panel somewhere. The first part of the synopsis for S.H.I.E.L.D.#1 in the history was shown in the comic, with the herald absent, while the second paragraph wasn't depicted, but we know had to happen, since (a) Galactus didn't eat Earth in 1582 and (b) the herald was nowhere around in any subsequent Galactus stories as of the time of publishing this profile.
Since the character wasn't named in issue, and we're not even sure of gender (or even if such a term applies), so that calling the herald "he" or "she" would be potentially wrong, we've given the character an unofficial placeholder name. Solari is the Italian for solar, and it would be the kind of name an Italian astronomer might give a being from space who glows like a star.
This profile was completed 09/03/2021, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 20th anniversary 's celebratory event.
